  2. Fire Marshal dispatches the "Spirit of Louisiana" to Long Island

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The "Spirit of Louisiana" fire truck was dispatched to Long Island, NY in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

For those who don't know the story:

The history of the "Spirit of Louisiana" began with the September 11, 2001 terrorists' attacks on America. The citizens of Louisiana raised funds to provide for the replacement of fire equipment for the FDNY. The first fire engine was commissioned and labeled the "Spirit of Louisiana." This truck was delivered in December of 2001. It was used for years fighting fires and protecting the people of New York.

Immediately after Hurricane Katrina, the FDNY dispatched 300 firefighters to assist Louisiana in the response and recovery efforts. Upon learning that the City of New Orleans lost many fire trucks to the storm, it was determined that the "Spirit of Louisiana" was needed back in its birth state to help fight fires. The truck spent many years responding to emergency calls in New Orleans and was decommissioned in 2010.

  6. From the Huff Post...

    Screw the NYC Marathon

Four hundred and one miles. That's how much running I've completed since June 16, 2012. Since June 16th I've spent 75 hours in running gear. That's a little over three days of nothing but jogging. The goal of all this work was to run in the New York City Marathon on November 4th. Orange wave #4. Corral 65. Bib number 65195. And now I say to hell with it.

  9. From Point Breeze Volunteer Fire Department

PBFD firehouse has severe damage we lost most of our equipment, our 2 engines are still operational but on borrowed time, we lost a Chevy Tahoe, everything was under 4 feet of salt water. If any departments have spare supplies we could really use it, flashlights, radios, turnout gear, 4x4 apparatus, office equipment, mobile trailer, etc. We rescued many people and saved a lot of houses under some extreme conditions. FEMA and OEM have been useless. Please spread the word and repost and share. Thank you
