Who cares who cuffed the guy? They talked him down and got him into custody with no injuries to MOS or Thruway workers. As far as the dude dangling from the bridge, this is much ado about nothing. These things happen on a weekly basis down in Manhattan alone. Whether it's a high rise construction accident or some nut job perched on the 89th floor of some building, there is always something high angle going on. Sometimes so high up that the people on the ground don't even notice the incident. It gets handled, no fanfare, no fuss end of story.
Keep in mind also that this was a "standoff" if you will. Not really an emergency, imminent life or death situation. This guy put HIMSELF there and he WANTED to be there. I don't see response time here being a huge factor. Had they needed people there quicker, I'm sure that the Troopers would have requested help from Yonkers, Greenburg or White Plains. Kudos on the troopers for handling their own.

This post says it all, this is a FD website and has no room for cops or our opinions. This is evidenced by the strong amount of anti cop posts...

This article means nothing just like everything else the aclu puts out, it's all garbage. If I stop someone as a suspicous person and they hand me this article I am going to laugh at them and hand it right back to them and continue my investigation into their conduct.
This is another example of people who have no clue about law enforcement trying to tell us how we should act and how we should do our jobs.
Notice how the author of this piece of leftist garbage takes a swipe at the police, "Police officers may legitimately order citizens to cease activities that are truly interfering with legitimate law enforcement operations. Professional officers, however, realize that such operations are subject to public scrutiny, including by citizens photographing them."
So the way I take it is that if I back somebody away from a scene then I am not professional ?
If you feel the need to go to scenes and take pictures, just use your head and stay away and take pictures and if you are challenged by a cop, just don't act like a tool and you will be ok ... and for the love of God don't go quoting the aclu article !!!!!

I had a few gripes here -- which were PM'd and e-mailed to a few folks (none of which replied to me...)
First, as the original poster, I was never notified the post was removed, but it simply "disappeared". No notification to the originator, at least a professional curtsey.
Secondly, I felt the thread (minus the "me vs you" comments) was very educational for the members of this community. While it is a black eye for our industry, what better opportunity to learn from.
Third, we see tons of threads in this community that are "locked" and "cooled down" -- yet, for some reason, this one was straight out removed.
Fourth, it's been quite a few days since the thread was removed and this is the first public acknowledgement that it was done -- nothing was done at the time, just simply vanished in thin air.
It's no doubt the EMTBravo staff have a huge job on their hands -- but we're not kids here, treat us like adults and we'll treat you back.

It's a shame that something that everyone could have learned something from had to be removed because of the immaturity of a few individuals. I saw a the entire incident on a 14 minute long amateur video and I planned on posting it here in order to discuss what went wrong and what could have been done better but after all of the infighting I decided against it.

There are tons of places all over Westchester/Putnam and Dutchess where you can ride you quad. Most of them are illegal and private property but they have established riding trails (don't ask me how I know). Most of these spots are fairly deep in the woods away from prying eyes. I've been riding quite a few times for a couple of years now and haven't had a problem. Then again, me and my riding buddies observe a few simple rules that if EVERYONE followed it would make life easier for both the ATVer and the landowner.
    Stay off any public roadways
Haul out whatever trash you haul in. Nobody wants to see empty beer bottles, potato chip bags or whatever other kinda trash you can imagine.
Stay on the establish trails and don't try to blaze new ones doing so amounts to tearing up the guys land.
    If possible ask permission.
Leave the trail in a better condition than what you found it in (I always try to pack a large trash bag and sometimes end up picking up other peoples trash).
That being said, what kind of machine do you have and how often do you try to get out to ride?

Four park rangers and two concession stand workers were injured at Rye Playland Thursday night, one suffering a broken arm, when they tried to subdue a Bronx man who turned violent, county police said.
Many years ago, Playland had "specials" to patrol the park. I was one of them, we were uniformed seasonal peace/ police officers that were armed and carried night sticks. Many of us used this experience to transition into full time careers in law enforcement. In reading the postings it appears the that "specials" have been replaced by park rangers. One of the disturbing facts in both incidents at Playland is that rangers were injured and there was no report of the perps being pepper sprayed. I am not implying that there should be retribution but do these rangers carry any devices to protect themselves? Or is thier role to observe and report and hope help shows up in time? if this is the case It seems like it may be time to go back to the "specials".

The County tried having a contractor run the park a while ago. Marriott (I believe was the operator) changed the character of the park by taking away the free admission and putting up fences every ware. I don't recall the particulars but there was a big uproar of the way the park was being run and the County took control back.
the park runs at a loss and I believe that this factors into the reason for the rangers vrs police patrols.
And you are correct about the parking lot. The County used to have EVOC classes there. I don't know if they still do.

With the approaching 10th year anniversary, I hope we turn our attention to those who perished on that day and also those who have died since. We lost a lot of good people. We should remember them as the focus of the day. A tribute was posted on the web . It became so popular that they had trouble finding a host that could handle it. I found it recently. I'm sure many of us remember this one.

Well unfortunately in today's society, it is easier to blame the police/government for some frivolous nonsense in order to make a quick buck at the taxpayers expense. Let them go to whatever hole they crawled out of and try the same thing over there. I can almost guarantee that the outcome for them would be totally different.
Hopefully the county sticks to its guns and doesn't bow down to these animals.

The powerlines are one of the spots that people have been riding for years. Again its private property. Depending on where you live it could be ConEd (Yonkers/Southern Westchester) or NYSEG (Dutchess). For the most part if you're responsible and don't draw attention to yourself its not a problem. Cops like quads as well (again, don't ask me how I know) so for the most part they're pretty understanding from what I hear.
As for your exhaust problem here are a couple of links to help you out.

Actually Lost Trails is quite open. They never shut down. Not sure where you got this information. Perhaps you're mistaking them with "Paragon ATV Park" which closed down due to the landowner not wanting to renew their lease.
  21. x635 liked a post in a topic by Bull McCaffrey in Places To Ride An ATV In Westchester/Putnam/Dutchess?
Well I'd be careful with that line of thinking. If you're on private or "protected" land without permission that is called trespassing and I believe it is a crime, which cops are paid to stop just like you state in your post. Being a captain on the job has nothing to do with the price of tea in china.
My point is don't take an arrogant stance when playing in someone else's backyard like you have a right to be there. Certainly don't go throwing your title in someone's face because it might work against you. Not everyone likes ATVs or the people that ride them. Lots of landowners or their neighbors will complain about the noise and the irresponsible riding habits of some. Keep in mind that unless you're riding in a designated ATV park you're probably doing something illegal. Even if it seems trivial.
