Why because its the Chiefs daughter? If it was some regular nobody civie it would be no big deal posting who it was and how that person should be locked up and pay for this terrible tragedy.

The parade is not run by the City, it is run by the chamber of commerce. Layoffs will cost them more in insurance and they know it.
And this invite is coming from the Uniformed Fire Fighters Association Local 273.
The parade offer has been in the works since spring and its to honor the those who are serving and those who have served.
We have had layoffs in the past and picketing and rallies have never in our city changed the political will. But the public has a major say in what happens. So this is a great opportunity to show the public the significance of the NRFD.
We are asking you to stand with us. Thank You for your support.

If the old bridge is saved, then we'll have two bridges to maintain, right? Who's going to pay for the repair and upkeep of the "park bridge". It won't be the Thruway Authority unless they're allowed to have tolls for the pedestrians and bikes.
I can't support the idea of maintaining the old bridge as a park until someone can figure out the cost and who will be paying for it.

I actually think he's onto something that could be positive and bring business to the tarrytown area. Look at the Walkway Across the Hudson in Poughkeepsie with the volume it gets and it would add another great hudson river experience. The only downside that I see is that the TZ was built too low and a new bridge would allow for taller ships to have access up the river. Either way keeping it or building the new bridge I would like to see a pedestrian/bicycle right of way on the bridge much like the Brooklyn bridge has.

Leave the bridge up so that the jumpers don't tie up traffic

I think the concept is being lost on some departments that create special teams for FAST when it should be the function of aany/every FF instead of "special teams" that aren't always available.
In a large career department every FF can be FAST. In smaller departments and most volunteer agencies it's treated like something special and not everyone gets the training.

Chief - As long as Politics and Egos stand in the way, and there is pressure from the unions, the concept of Consolidation of Services will never see the light of day in our lifetime. I started a new thread as it relates to the County's effort to explore the concept of shared services (Shared Municipal Services Expo) that the county is sponsoring tomorrow. Whether or not all of the Mayors, Town and Village Administrators, Police Commissioners, Fire Commissioners and Chiefs, and EMS Leaders attend is open for debate and discussion, but I totally agree with you, when you say that the couny needs to PUSH and PRESS this concept and make it a reality. No Exceptions. (this way, no one would have to choose what Fire Department in the County provides them with the best opportunity to make a difference (personally and professionally). ONE DEPARTMENT (Police, Fire and EMS), no exceptions.

I appreciate what you are saying, and my intent with this comment is not to make this thread go off topic. I don't think she would mind now if I said I dated a female police officer from southern Westchester for quite some time. The insight I got into the professional operation of a particularly small police department made me wonder why they were able to maintain such a high level of professionalism, and LOYALTY toward each other; when I've seen fire departments in southern Westchester destroying themselves with infighting, ridiculous hatred and grudge-holding, and overall dysfunction. This does not apply to the larger jobs like Yonkers IMHO. I had opportunity to advise a Brother to transfer to YFD years ago from another department. My advice was GO and don't look back. I think he thinks he made the right choice.
Guys have to raise their game in the fire service. Forgiveness is a virtue; one that too many firefighters, career or volunteer don't seem to understand. We all make mistakes, but the higher virtue of Brotherhood could prevail, IF the Brothers could learn to forgive, let it go, understand we're all human and ALL of us are going to do something that pisses others off.
Thank you for the opportunity to address this particularly nagging issue in Westchester County Fire Departments.
We now return you to the regularly scheduled discussion of an amazing fire; amazing because it shows what firefighters are capable of doing as a team. More of us need to keep that in focus during the times when tankers and buildings aren't burning.

Did anyone get any photos from the fire? I saw a lot of guys with cameras there. Checked NYCfire.net, but it was not him. Great job done by everyone. All the departments worked well together and got a very stubborn fire to go out. It's amazing no one was hurt.
    As a side note:
Kinda funny how this call didn't get a Incident Alert but people post MVA's .

Just to shed some light on this event ( I was there on the first alarm assignment)the resources supplied by FDNY were a result of their own Commanders actions. PMFD Chief called for foam right at the start of this job from FDMV, FDNR and then YFD. NYC received multiple 911 calls from nearby Bronx resident's who heard and saw the explosions and the Bronx CO sent their own assignment to the scene. The PMFD Chief did not waste any time in his decisions and all of the FDNY resources listed were sent by request of Division 7 Chief on the scene.ALL units worked very well together throughout the operation to bring about a successful conclusion with no serious injuries to any members or civilians.Hope this clears things up.

So which is it the IAFF or the Department that wants it? They are not one and the same and often they are on opposite side of many issues. NYS has 100 depts that are career or combo and only about 6 provide ALS. I dont think you have studied this enough.
Who are you to determine what a community should think is valuable and is willing to pay for?
All of Florida "forces" everyone to be FL. firefighters to get hired or promoted, does that make for a down grade in firefighters?
So you've inteview all these ff's and determined this? I've been a paramedic and an instructor for over 25 years (firefighter & officer for similar), but my agency is BLS. I became a medic because I wanted to. My medic training makes me a better fire officer and my fire training makes me a better medic.
I know many depts that its highly competative to even get into medic programs.
I also know a number of non fire based medics, that are burned out, or want to be an RN, Cop, FF and the medic will be dropped when they get there. The medic is just to pay the bills for now (some are good and some are not....and many are forced by Mommy & Daddy because they need a job).
Then how can you make claims about the entire fire service? Since the majority of EMS in the US is fire based and has been that way for 40 or more years when is this padding going to have any effect?
Yes you are clearly a newbie and reading a bunch of articles maybe only has given you a small view of whats really out there.
So its better to provide it for profit like the big commercial services?
BTW, I'm not pissed off, Its common to see inexperienced people try to prove a point here.

It's got alot to do with it bro., you should know that. You can have all the fancy equipment, training and bresnan distributors you want on a rig but if the manpower isn't there to deploy it and use it that ISO rating means nothing. Does the ISO take into account how many personnel show up to a Job at 3am without relying on m/a? The citizens of the Town of Mamaroneck might really enjoy their new reduction in Insurance premiums but lets see how they feel when their house or business burns to the ground cause a skeleton crew showed up on the 1st due apparatus within the 1st three minutes. This is by no means a diss to the TMFD, they got alot of great guys and do the best they can with what they got, but I think just too much emphasis is placed on ISO ratings. How many of the ISO employees have ever even fought a Job. I could care less if my Dept. has more then its full complement of halligans and nozzles or a great water supply within its district, if there's a delay in utilizing these resources you can take that ISO rating and stick it!

The Captain is on the right track... Let me add though what is/was missing from this long discussed issue.... Which will absolutely shock everyone...
In reality this has exactly ZERO to do with Police Officers and Firemen.... That is correct... ZERO...
What is missed here that goes on every where else is that there are a******* in every line of work and that is what creates the issue. Cops and Firemen have been buddies for a century... It's just the jerks that screw it all up.

When I was chief, I greatly encouraged the members bring their families to the station for storm standby's. This worked well a few times that we had storm related standbys during my tenure.
    knew the family was ok.
allowed more guys to come in instead of riding it out at home.
allowed the family to be with friends and lets face it ,in small deprtments other family members.
we usually have running water, power, kitchen with food, entertainment [ps3, Wii, cableTV, video games, pool tables
I know it is tough for the career guys, most likely will not be able to bring thier families to work. Does anyone consider having your crews family meet at one families house and support each other ? That way they are all together. Just a thought.

That would assume that the 100 year old fire house (that was determined to be structurally unsound by engineers) and is located in the flood plane is safer than ones private home.

Amen! Glad some can see through the smokescreen.
I love SCOTT AirPaks, really would not want to wear anything else, but when is enough, enough?
I cut my teeth on the 2a...we were one of the last departments to switch over to 2.2's...and I can tell you that pack, with the steel bottle, was lighter than a 4.5 I recently wore, equipped with buddy breather, pak tracker, and all the other bells and whistles....
I honestly prefer the 4.5's with the wire frame...I'll take my chances without the other "stuff".

I was one of two that worked with Code 3 on the FDNY Models. I was with Code 3 since 1997 and it was a great ride. This past Wednesday Funrise in formed me that Code 3 has ceased its operation. September they were supposed to release FDNY Engine 234, followed by Ladder 35 and then Ladder 38's Seagrave rearmount and finish up the year with Engine 88. But with the way the economy is and the way these models were selling, Matrix thought it was best to close down Code 3. Its a shame because over the years Code 3 produced a great product but the last four years shabby models were released over our objections. 2011 we started to see a turn around. During those four years quite a few of these models that were released were flops. The biggest flop which should have been the biggest seller was the 900 Series ALF TDA. We had knowledgeable people in place with blueprints and still there were many mistakes on both the open and closed cab versions. With the many mistakes, Code 3 closed down production on this model and took a huge loss. I enjoyed my years with Code 3 and maybe our paths will cross again in the future.

We kind of knew this was coming- Vz is not a local or state government that is going bankrupt and they have been immune from the economic downturn- but they see an opportunity here to bust the union-If the strike becomes prolonged, service will suffer- for legacy copper phone lines and FIOS- but don't forget- The wireless side of the business depends on a landline backbone to move all of that cellular traffic- so that could begin to suffer too. As far the scab workers coming in, besides the inferior quality of work most of them do, there is a bit of a national security issue here too- many of these people will have access to our central offices and other sensitive areas- not good
