I love this photo I got the other day, and wanted to share it on here. I'd been dying to get a photo of COHPD's new Ford Police Interceptor SUV's, and the other day I was driving by Engine 119-Tanker 10 Washington Engine hoping the tanker was out to get a photo, and saw this. Took 2 seconds to photograph, and turned out to be a great shot when I downloaded the photo.
And I'm going to use this opportunity to shamelessly plug my photo pages, you can like it if you want to see photos like this posted fresh everyday, x635Photos on Facebook , Seth Granville-x635Photos on Flickr, and x635Photos.com

  7. JP59 liked a post in a topic by x635 in An In-Depth Look - Stamford's New Engine 8
This thread is about Stamford Fire-Rescue's new Engine 8, a 2014 KME with a 1500 GPM pump, a 1,000 gallon tank, and 30 gallon foam tank. They operate out of a temporary station next to Stamford EMS Station 4 on Vine Rd near High Ridge Road. It covers the northern part of the city, specifically the High Ridge and Turn Of River sections. They cover urban, suburban, and rural sections of the city In addition, they cover the Merritt Parkway. A large part of their district is unhydranted. The company, Engine 8, was put into service in July of 2008 to cover the Turn Of River Volunteer fire department district. It is always staffed by 1 Officer, One Firefighter/Apparatus Operator, and one Firefighter. When staffing levels allow, a fourth crew member is also added. All members are part of IAFF Local 786.The company nick name is "Ridge Runners - 8 Ball Express"
Stamford Fire-Rescue's entire district is diverse, as they cover multiple high rises, commercial, industrial, and transit infrastructure, including a major interstate, I-95, the Merritt Parkway, a large Metro-North Commuter Railroad maintenance yard. There are large hospitals, office buildings, and large scale residential developments. They also cover a large suburban section, as well as some very rural area with very large and valuable real estate and huge areas of brush with limited access.
The career firefighters of Local 786 staff 9 Engine companies, 3 truck companies, 1 heavy rescue company, and 1 shift commander. A Fire Lieutenant also is a coordinator in the city's consolidated 911 communications center. This adds up to a minimum of 52 firefighters a shift. A Hazmat company and Hazmat support vehicles are cross staffed.
The KME Severe-Service Predator type chassis was specified and chosen for the terrain, roads, and structures it covers.
I'd really like to thank Captain Matt Palmer, one of my favorite fire captains, for taking the time to give me a complete in depth tour of the new KME. I do want to apologize, as the photos didn't turn out as nice as I wanted them to, but hope everyone still enjoys them and can see all the neat specs.
For comparison to the new Engine 8, here's the FORMER Engine 8, a 2005 HME.

Thanks for the update Stepjam. That's a lot of work on the trailer but the finished product will be worth it. Keep the updates coming.

Started the trailer modifications. VERY difficult disassembly, and I still haven't figured out how to detach the ladder and turntable.

Once I stripped it down to the base plate, I used a Dremel to grind it back about 1/16" on each side so that the new side panels for the compartments will be flush with the existing fenders.

Next, I measured for the length of the high side compartments, leaving a space behind the front fender, which is where the rear hydraulic outriggers wold retract into, did some arithmetic, and marked out the panels. I used .02 ABS sheet for a base layer, and .01 ABS on top of that for the panel doors. Then I ran a strip of DP between the uppers and lowers. Each compartment was a separate unit on the actual truck, so I scribed a deep line between each section. Later, after it's painted, I will use a black wash to highlight the low spots.

Nice kitbash Stepjam. That's going to look awesome when you have it completed. Post more photos as you progress. I have an extensive diecast fire truck collection and have done some minor kitbashing. I look forward to seeing more posts like this.

Coming along nicely. Next step is to break down the trailer and put in the compartments.
That crappy Code 3 was good for something after all.

Not just the PD frequencies. FCC regulations require you to be licensed to transmit on any public safety frequency. But as someone said, they will sell you anything and the real crime of it is that people will program your radios with frequencies without ever asking to see a license. Just show me the money.
And self programmable radios make it almost impossible to deal with. There's no middleman anymore like the companies that sell/program radios.
  14. velcroMedic1987 liked a post in a topic by JP59 in Ham Multi Band Radio Legality
The Baofeng radios are actually dual band VHF high and UHF band commercial transceivers that are capable of transmitting and receiving on public service frequencies and amateur radio (ham) frequencies within these bands. They are used by many ham radio operators due to their low cost. I am a licensed ham radio operator and own and operate one of these radios on the ham bands. Unfortunately, you are not required to be a licensed ham operator to purchase any radio. These radios being used by VAC members are not covered under the agency's FCC license and because they are capable of receiving public service frequencies, they are subject to the NYS scanner laws for mobile use unless you hold a valid amateur radio license. Lets hope that the unlicensed individuals that have these radios only use them for monitoring and not transmitting where they shouldn't. I am also a volunteer fire officer and a VAC member and only use agency issued portables and not the Baofeng for public service purposes.

    Great post!!
Elections aren't the problem. If you feel change is needed than use the election process to get into a position to make the changes that will make your FD better. How? By drawing members to your cause. How? Perseverance. One thing's for sure quitting won't solve anything. Change happens from within, not from the outside looking in. .

You do not hear anywhere on this thread that " I was beat out by a better guy" or "It was a pick em', two equals going for the same spot and I lost fair and square"
It seems like there is a giant conspiracy throughout the state and no matter who looses, Its fixed or the system sucks or they are quitting the department now that the didn't get the position that they wanted.
I don't want to hear the popularity contest in the volunteer ranks argument anymore either. Every organization has a popularity contest in some capacity.
Some career jobs also see this. One of the top 3 scores can be made. What does that mean? Whoever the Chief, Mayor and Commissioner wants to be Chief, Captain, or Lieutenant gets the job. You can be #1 on the promotional list for 20 years and get beat out by #2 and #3 every time a promotion comes up.
Life sucks. Crappy things happen (being voted out in favor of an inferior firefighter due to popularity), but giving up isn't a feasible option. Most of us live, work or live and work in the communities that we protect. How is quitting an admirable thing to do? You complain that you all are superstar firefighters that would improve the dept. being in an officer position, so if you are such an asset and joined and remained so active because you love doing this, then why would you give up and let the other guys win?
makes no sense to me. If that was me I would stay active protect my community. Staying active and giving your input more than ever will work toward accomplishing what you want. Quitting lets the other guys win.
Sometimes in life the best lessons are learned from failure, so why don't you guys try to learn and grow from this? Stop making excuses and blaming the system, the district, the department, ect. Let this make you all better people and firefighters and hopefully be persistent and go for office again next time around.

I am very skeptical with this story. First of all, if you are documenting an unboxing it usually is a Youtube video so you can share product info with others. I have never seen an unboxing documented with photos before. Whats the purpose? And, if you were to photo document an unboxing, why take pictures of you cutting open the shipping box. Sounds like an elaborate scheme to try to get a free camera from Dell. I don't believe any of this story.

Maybe I'm wrong maybe not. How could he scheme a camera or two out of Dell? Delivery #1 was a camera and he replaced the camera with flooring tiles, notifies Dell and has another camera shipped. Delivery # 2 allegedly had wood in the box and not a camera and files another complaint with Dell. If this is the case, hypothetically, he now has 2 cameras in his possession and possibly a full refund from Dell. It could happen and if you think someone wouldn't try this I think you are mistaken. Just my opinion.

OK, now that you and Seth provided additional details I am no longer skeptical. Never dawned on me the delivery driver might have done this. If thats the case, the buyer is really being treated poorly by Dell. Thanks for the insight guys.
