Orange Lake and Coldenham have recently taken delivery of their new apparatus, a KME pumper and Spartan ERV mid-mount platform, respectively.   Haven't seen anything on Winona Lake's engine yet.   Think both were ordered at the same time?   Howells should be receiving their new Seagrave engine soon.

  5. On order, as per John Malecky's latest column on 1st Responder News. Also a Pierce Enforcer engine for Woodcliff Lake, and an Enforcer PUC for Colesville (Wantage Twp.) in Sussex County, among other "local" listings.

Washingtonville (Orange) has reassigned the unit number 583 to a Ford pickup, unsure of it's exact use. They have acquired a used Sutphen pumper (believed to be ex-Upper Saddle River, NJ) that is lettered Engine 582, which replaces the former 583 Ferrara that was involved in a weather related MVA over the winter.

Below is a picture from Washingtonville's website of their temporary Engine 582. It is a 1990 Sutphen with 1000 gallon tank and 1500 GPM pump and indeed was formerly part of Upper Saddle River, NJ.

  6. Mechanicstown Fire District (Orange County, New York) has placed an order for a new engine with Hudson Valley Fire Equipment, LLC.

This new engine will replace Engine 118, a 1990 KME Renegade that has faithfully served their district for decades and will be almost a twin to Engine 120.

  7. Construction has begun on the long awaited Pierce rear mount ladder for Ellenville (Ulster Co.). Looks like an Arrow XT cab shell.

    Recent new deliveries:

Saugerties (Ulster): Pierce Saber top mount pumper

Sparrowbush (Orange): Spartan/Custom Fab & Body 2500 gallon pumper-tanker, which will apparently replace Engine 844, rather than 845 as originally thought.

    Hurleyville (Sullivan): International/4Guys 2500 gallon pumper-tanker

New Sparrowbush (Orange County, NY) Engine 844. Photographer unknown.

  8. Saugerties (Ulster) should soon be, if they haven't already, taking delivery of a new Pierce Saber pumper.

Campbell Supply's Facebook page shows a new Spartan ERV pumper under construction for Middle Hope (Orange). Wondering if this will be an addition, or a replacement for one of their twins?

Recent legal notice for Mechanicstown (Orange) seeking bids for a new pumper.

I should think Middle Hope would be adding to their fleet and not replacing one of the twin engines, considering they are only 12 years old. Unless there is some significant defect?

  9. Recently published legal notice for the Orange Lake Fire District (Orange Co.) seeking bids for two new pumpers.

I wonder if this is a joint bid notice for Orange & Winona Lake, as they are both part of the Orange Lake Fire District. Both recently received a KME engine. The oldest engine at Orange Lake is a 1997 Pierce and at Winona Lake is a 1987 Pierce that was refurbished a few years ago.

  11. The cool part about this, I forgot to mention, is that Volvo doesn't build fire trucks. This is one of a kind. The employees, many of which are volunteer firefighters, imagined, designed and built this truck using the skills of the employees and resources at the plant to build a truck, again completely in house, to meet the very specific needs of the in house brigade, yet still be able to serve the surrounding community. This plant, which builds Volvo's Class 8 Heavy Duty Vocational Truck chassis line, is located in a rural area in the mountains of Southwest Virginia (Dublin, VA - New River Valley). They have over 2,850 truck builders at the plant.

Among some of the specs: Volvo D13 500 horsepower engine, Volvo I-Shift transmission, 43 feet long, 7 man cab, 2000GPM pump, 2500 gallon tank, 360 degree high flow deck gun, fully foam capable, 4000 watt generator, 1000 feet hose

"Volvo Trucks NRV Plant Fire Brigade, registered as Volvo Technical Rescue Team, is certified in the Commonwealth of VA for high angle rescue, confined space rescue, and industrial firefighting. Tanker 33 is registered under a regional mutual aid agreement and meets all state mandated requirements"

They are on Zico hydraulic racks, so they lower down to ground level at the flip of a switch.

There is a chute behind the rear compartment roll up door. It's more designed to carry a lot of water for industrial firefighting/self sufficiency but can respond mutual aid as a tanker.

Here's a photo of the crew cab:

    attachicon.gifvolvo6.jpg

Although Volvo doesn't build fire apparatus, I could see departments that might want to buy a Volvo chassis after seeing this unit. It's surely a beast!
