  1. Here's a USA today link. The LEO was part of the Greece P.D. and was off duty at the time. An article I read said he was hit by shrapnel. That said, I wish a speedy recovery to those ff's and officer and R.I.P. to the ff's who lost their lives today.

Thoughts go out to their families, communities and departments.

  2. Looks great chief! The one issue I seem to have is the multimedia tab doesn't work. Any of the links of that header don't work. It gives you an error. The apparatus link isn't really needed if you're going to provide photos of the apparatus under the companies tab.

Also the very bottom of the screen where it says the site was designed by Firehouse Solutions for Croton FD. Someone should either fill the rest of the information out (road name, city, state, zip) or remove that piece altogether.

  3. I know you'll hate me for this, but You said "Mostly doesn't effect utility" but the items on the ladder, by the pump, in the bucket, don't effect it? I saw the guys comments, still doesnt answer my question.

Why would I hate you for your comment? Don't quote me as saying "mostly doesn't effect utility". Those were the words of the person who created/uploaded the video originally. If anything, you or anyone for that matter should ask the person who created the video (I provided his username on youtube earlier) or contact the department. Seth provided a link to them in an earlier comment. I'm sure he/they could answer whatever questions/comments/concerns people have better than I could. His comment(s) sounded good to me but apparently not to others. I just happened to catch the video on facebook and shared it here. I have absolutely 0 affiliation with that department in any way shape or form. Up until Seth mentioned they were located in Wisconsin, I thought they were in Texas. That right there should tell you how much I know. lol

  4. After closed-door contract talks broke down last month, the city and its firefighters union are headed back to arbitration to resolve a long-simmering dispute over staffing.

The two sides are due to appear before an independent arbitrator on Jan. 9, three months after they called off the proceeding in a good-will effort to iron out the disagreement on minimum staffing levels as part of regular contract talks.

“We believe we have made a good-faith effort” at negotiating, said Yonkers Fire Local 628 President Barry McGoey, but “the city is thus far not agreeable to our terms.”

  5. To those of you who are criticizing the video and or the department, if you look at the comments section in the video the person (poprecords1) who uploaded this originally commented that "The set-up is designed to (mostly) stay on the truck and not effect its utility. The system that controls the lights and the speakers are removed when not at the parade. The lights and work do not cost the taxpayers a penny."

  6. I got there a little late and didn't have much time to setup my tripod and get the composition I wanted so I'm not all that satisfied with the photos. The combination of fog and shooting with a big flash played a factor too. My flash has a pretty quick recycle time but the pace of the parade was pretty quick and some photos came out too dark/noisy as a result. It would be cool to see them expand this and make it a longer parade, get some more fd's and local organizations in the community involved. I also missed some things when I was changing lenses. Some were shot on my big lens I use for low light situations but for the most part they were shot on my fixed lens.

  7. Photos of some of the apparatus that were in the parade. Fire Departments in the parade were Yorktown Heights, Millwood, Mohegan Lake, Leonia. Yorktown DPW and a few other organizations (including the Lakeland High School State Championship Field Hockey team) also participated. I believe there were a total of 22 participants. There was some pretty dense fog patches at times which caused all the flashing lights to be super saturated.

  8. They weren't just here for the doughnuts. The White Plains Public Safety Department hosted 23 police and fire officials from China Friday, giving them a tour of headquarters, showing them emergency vehicles and other equipment and discussing training and operational procedures for about two hours. “They’re here as friends, on a two-week good-will tour to observe U.S. police methods,” said retired New York City Deputy Police Chief Dewey Fong, who accompanied the visitors to White Plains and served as their interpreter.

The group, which began its visit on the West Coast and has visited a number of departments across the country, asked to come to White Plains because David Chong is one of the few Chinese-American public safety commissioners in the U.S.

“We were honored to be requested, and I think we gave them some insight into how we do things,” Chong said. “I came up through the ranks of the NYPD with Deputy Chief Fong, so it was nice that he brought them here.” While Chong said police here and in China “have some things in common,” he said the visitors were particularly interested in American community policing methods.

With Fong translating, Zhou Chen, deputy director of the Guizhou Province public security bureau’s political department, told The Journal News that his group was impressed with what they saw. “White Plains is a beautiful city and they have very well-equipped police and firefighters,” he said. “There’s a lot we can learn here and we thank Commissioner Chong and Police Chief (James) Bradley for their hospitality. We’re impressed with the quality and professionalism we've seen.”

The Chinese officials also stopped at Berkeley College’s White Plains campus to learn about its criminal justice program. They return to China on Dec. 12.

  9. U.S. cellphone users should be able to send text messages to 911 as soon as 2013, and nearly everyone will by 2014, the Federal Communications Commission has announced.

AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon will launch the service in some parts of the U.S. in 2013, the FCC said. The wireless carriers have signed an agreement to make emergency texting available to more than 90 percent of American cellphone users by May 15, 2014.

  10. They do callback to staff the sspare engine .And, when the MV calls for Greenville, one main things are Greeville. Greenville is not just another fire engine, it's a Sqaud., with tons of tools, extremlt

They've had a ton of problems with that rig. If they get called for m/a when the spare is in service (like it was just recently since their newest truck had another breakdown) do they still go out or do they stay in district?
