Yonkers Fire has a ladder company (Spare L-78) with a full crew (Officer and 3 FF) plus a Battalion Chief and Aide in Nassau, I believe in Baldwin. They are returning tomorrow at 0800 after a 72 hour deployment.
YFD Mobile Command has been in Citi Field, with 2 of our SOC members, for the last several days. It is expected to be there for a long time. It is being heavily utilized by various OEM / FEMA, etc.
We also have a Haz-Mat Task Force operating in Suffolk County out of the Islip Airport alongside a career FD Haz-Mat team there. It consists of 2 YFD Battalion Chiefs, and approximately 4 YFD Company Officers, and 15 or so YFD Firefighters, as well as 1 Officer and 3 Firefighters from Hartsdale Fire, and 1 Officer and 6 Firefighters from Greenville Fire. All or most of these members have been trained to the Haz-Mat Tech level, and some to Haz-Mat Specialist level. They finish their 72 hours tomorrow evening I believe. They have been doing a very significant amount of work, the details of which I do not have. Suffice to say that local opinion has been very positive and they have been requested to extend their deployment for at least 72 more hours.
However, in light of the coming Nor-Easter, our exhausted personnel as a result of the Hurricane Sandy mitigation- preparation- response, and recovery efforts in Yonkers, and the recovery work on Long Island, and our very undermanned department (40+ members under authorized strength due to a delayed class hiring), we have declined the request to extend the Haz Mat Task Force deployment. We will see what effect the coming storm has, and if still requested, and able, we will redeploy another Haz Mat Group.
This is a horrible situation for so many, but it is nice to see how readily most First Responders as well civilians give of their time, effort, and money to attempt to ease the suffering and return us all to some sense of normalcy.
Once again, I could not be more proud of my YFD brothers, many of whom suffered damage to their own homes, as well as extended loss of electricity, yet continued to rise to the challenge and performed admirably during the many events of this last week.

Fellow members,
We've made a major revision to the forum's layout. Instead of the Incident Alert, Local, and Apparatus Coming Soon forums all being in seperate places, we've combined each county/region into it's own section. This is a beta test, and keeping the layout will be evaluated in a few weeks.
Here's a visual:
We hope you find this new layout more useful and more enjoyable

We're always looking to improve the site....if you have a suggestion, please feel free to email us at seth@emtbravo.com

Fellow Members,
With climate change creating more and more severe storms, and weather topics being some of our most popular, most posted in, fastest growing and most viewed threads, we've decided that the weather topics deserve their own section.
So, we've created "The Weather" forum, for discussion of the weather, weather events, storms, and everything related. It can be found in the Local Forums section, right under "Fiscal Crisis".

I have seen several Fire Depts. and EMS agencies deploying to NYC and Long Island from upstate to help out but I know there's been a lot of discussion about who can go due to training standards. For this sort of thing, are these departments being requested by FDNY or are they just voluntarily planning on showing up? If these people are just showing up un-announced, will they be turned away due to them not having the same training standards or will their help be accepted and be put to work?
p.s. Chief Munson, still on for that volleyball game? ;-)

I'm mixed. On one hand its obviously going to be a draw on the city's resources. On the other, you can't overlook the economic bounceback as well as the "we're still here" factor.
Either way, it should be up to New Yorkers to decide.

Snow would be an absolute disaster right now. As I drive around the Bronx right now (at work), most gas stations are out of gas, with the possibility of the next deliveryies on Saturday. The few places that have gas, have long lines.

On my way home for work I heard Arlington get toned out for a reported fire at Cherry Hill Apartments. I had to buff some photos......
I must say for the amonut of staffing, Great Stop by AFD..... Anyone who questions staffing should have been there. There was plenty of hose to be pulled and fed as well as ladders to be put up.
Awesome stop AFD, this could have had a very poor ending if it wasnt for the quick and agressive attack.
The chaueffur on Tower 2 put that Tower in some tight place.

NYC/Westchester are slowly starting to get their mass transit systems back online. Metro North is running on an hourly schedule on the lower Harlem Line (North White Plains-Grand Central). Grand Central re-opened to the public at 2 pm, Newark and JFK each re-opened to flights on a limited basis at 7:00 am this morning and NYC subway is getting back into operation. The 7,B,C,E,G,Q trains are all still suspended but the F,J,A and M trains are running with limited service.

NY Code - Section 209-E: Fire mobilization and mutual aid plan
http://codes.lp.find...de/GMU/10/209-e
NYS Mutual Aid Mobilization
Request gets made for specific items (i.e. swiftwater team, engines for fire standby, utilities with pumps for pumpouts, fire police teams etc...) from the areas affected, it goes through NYSDHS/OFPC/OEM, who then reaches out to specific areas for those items/manpower. The County Coordinator then reaches out to departments that typically have the manpower and equipment. It is then on the department to decide who is qualified based on their standards.
3 agencies from Dutchess Co went down earlier today, Amenia, Fairview and Hughsonville. This is in addition to Arlington and LaGrange the other day BEFORE the storm hit, with Swiftwater teams and gear.
