Wow, how is it that an April fools joke (and a good one at that) can lead to more replies than a serious thread?

SOP's are just that "standard" (and I read their press release). When this stopped being standard, they were in a bad spot and couldn't/didn't react fast enough to the changing conditions. It's not a criticism, it's merely a statement.

I guess they parked in a bad spot and didn't react to changing conditions fast enough. Somewhere there is an apparatus salesman doing the happy dance.

There are plenty of good EMS systems out there. Boston, King county, la county, some of the counties around DC come to mind. Westchester is not a system. It's a patchwork of solutions to issues. Without leadership, it won't change. Because, quite frankly, the people don't care. They do not care what the ambulance has written on it. They want someone to show up, be nice to them, fix them and get them to a hospital. With a pillow and a blanket. Seriously, that came out in a study/survey in Syracuse.
So unless someone inside or outside the system will step up and begin to build solutions, y'all are stuck with what ya got.
Ever notice that those model systems have a tribute page on their website to the visionary that made it happen? That's not by accident. Step up and lead if you want it fixed. Take charge of the EMS council and push. Read some of the tributes to visionary leaders. They have words like relentless, tireless, pursuing, energetic in them. Again, for a reason.

Peekskill and New Rochelle is dispatched by 60-Control. I think New Rochelle qualifies as a major city.
The question wasn't about 60-Control DOING police dispatch. The question was whether or not their staffing was changing as more departments leave the local PD dispatch and opt for 60-Control to do it.

I don't think the standard of measure or benchmark can/should be how many structure fires 60 Control can handle. There really is no metric for that.
I think better metrics need to be identified to determine if 60 is adequately staffed.
A better question would be how many fire departments can handle a structure fire.

The competition doesn't need this as a sign to be competitive, and the offerings are plentiful. Split-tilt cabs are very, very, very rarely asked for nowadays, and developing a new cab costs millions of dollars. They aren't going to develop a product that no one wants. A lot of departments also don't want or need a full stainless steel cab, as it's lighter and easier to maintain aluminum.
The Ferrara Ultra also comes as a full-tilt model, and I'm sure Yonkers didn't spec a split-tilt.
And Yonkers has gone with a variety of different manufacturers of the years, such as HME, Smeal, ALF, Ward LaFrance, Seagrave, Continental, Mack, Ward 79, etc. Some of those were sole bidders as well. One of the main reasons Smeal wins the aerials is because they are one, if not the only, manufacturer that can provide rear mount aerials to operate on the extreme grades of Yonkers streets.

If there's one area screaming for consolidation, it's school districts.

    Read below:

Over 55 million dollars being spent for 332 "administrators" (who probably never see the classroom) in 53 distinct, autonomous school districts serving 1.2 million students. Some districts ridiculously small but still paying their administrators more than State Education officials.

I am glad this ended with no loss of life both the firefighters and law enforcement. The article say the former members was in a dispute with the fire company. My guess is this goes way beyond that. And I am not excusing what he did and he should do time I also think he needs help. There is a mental illness crisis in this country that is exploding to levels we have never seen before and it is being ignored.
