The big down side to mergers is a neighborhood can go from having 3 patrol cars to 1 or none depending on the crime going on in the dept they merged with. I rather pay a few bucks more in taxes to keep my town pd

Wedge using your scenario then every ff emt or medic in nys should have a fly car. Which makes no sense. He can pull over and help like anyone else would do.

Yea, they're always on official business... quite frankly, I get to watch thousands spent on gold leaf for trucks...then I go to work... where I'm told "there's no money" for fixing damn near anything on the trucks, and forget hiring another guy... There is more of an issue here than just bringing the command vehicle wherever you go because you're technically in service.
True, does sound like a little childish to bring it up here...but I do get what he's getting at. I'm quite tired of seeing the constant struggle for so many departments, then watching other departments spend the money on bullshit because if you don't spend it, you lose it...so that's where the goldleaf for the command vehicle goes...or maybe an extra lightbar...
just because a set of by-laws doesn't mention it...doesn't exclude it from ethical behavior. Our trusty bylaws haven't exactly been known to be perfect by any means...
For the record, I'm not against chief cars... I'm in favor...they have a purpose, but they should only be used for that purpose and that purpose only... perhaps state contract should only allow for non-luxury cars...perhaps military grade...because some of us know how the military thought of comfort when it came to vehicles...
We are, indeed, our own worst enemies...

It's abuse and a waste of tax payer $$$. Districts/Depts. need better accountability and with that restrictions. It's issued for business and this shouldn't be mistaken with personal business.

Great job Officer DePrimo!! Far too often our good deeds go unnoticed/ignored by the public and the press. Things like this occur everyday, maybe not $75 for a set of boots, but food, and just a kind word or two.

As is typical, a police officer getting good press only garners two or three replies. Start a thread about purple lights in POVs or which color reflective chevrons look coolest on the back of the rig and the thread goes on for days.
Good job officer! Acts like this give us all hope. We should all strive to be as kind as PO DePrimo.

No F'ing way!?!(Sorry nothing else seemed to say what was needed!) Anyone who'd do that outside of a joke would be in the drink at best... That kind of abuse of personnel is not wholly admin's fault, stuff has had to have been let slide far too much for anyone to think that could be remotely OK. We have a great Union/Admin relationship and I'm certain our people would have tripped on a "manhole".

The picture I posted as well as others were on CBS 2 news at 6 just now. When the segment becomes available online I will link it here. I will tell you one thing though, this isn't about EMS members "whining about being wet". This is about the safety of our coworkers and the public we are sworn to protect, and the failure of our leadership during Sandy.

"This is whining about getting wet"?!?!?!?! That's got to be one of the most demoralizing and mean-spirited remarks I've heard. Wow.

You guys must be crazy if you think that twinkies or any other Hostess Brand product is going anywhere. Someone is going to buy the manufacturing and marketing rights and make sure that we all have plenty of twinkies when the zombies come looking for brains.
  18. nycmedic liked a post in a topic by SECTMB in Bye Bye Hostess Brands - No Twinkies for the Apocalypse
While I am sorry to see Twinkies go offline for awhile, they are not the same as they were, and not as good as they were in the 60's and 70's. Don't know what they did but the cake was more dense and golden back then.
Anyway, bonehead move by the Union bosses, who will still have their overpaid jobs. Hostess has been struggling for years in and out of several bankruptcies and never being able to get all sides to come up with a long term workable plan.
Someone will pick up the assets but that does not mean the employees will get their old jobs back. And, its not just the immediate 18,500 jobs. How many residual jobs will be lost as a result of the facilities closing? All the people who worked for companies that serviced those facilities and businesses those employees supported. The trickle down could reach much further.
There is plenty of blame to go around as to why Hostess failed, but right now, the final nail was pounded in by the Union.

It does not matter what profession it is. If the city provided you with the helmet or if they gavr you a allowance to.buy the helmet. It still belongs to the city. If they want to charge you to keep the city.owned equipment then it is their right to do so. If the money goes towards the city's budget that is even better. It was mentioned that the $100 goes to the fdny foundation which is a nonprofit organization that benefits you and your job. Some woild think you would be proud tl support a organization that supports your livelihood and safety.

The helmet belongs to the city not the member. I agree with the city. If you want to keep the city owned helmet then you should pay for it.

As previously mentioned, artificially inflated bids will be rejected initially, making this a moot point. I will go out on a limb and state that any cash bonuses are probably offset by increased labor costs which allow for early completion. The incentive to the contractor is now he can move on to his next project that much sooner. Seems to me to be a win-win for the state and private sector.

They did this very same thing when replacing the Route 9 bridge in Peekskill a few years back. That job was also done by Perini, finished early, and they collected a bonus on it.
I absolutely think it's worth it for them to have a bonus. Look at the 287 project in comparison....
  23. nycmedic liked a post in a topic by SRS131EMTFF in AMVETS Bridge (TSP Northbound Yorktown) Reopens Tomorrow Morning
The bid process distinctly has time lengths associated with it and thus any firm inflating their time projection will simply be not selected to complete the work.
Heres the real question: Is it worth spending a little extra to have such a major renovation completed early allowing to decrease the traffic and inconvenience along one of the largest and busiest arteries in Westchester Co.? My answer is certainly yes.
  24. nycmedic liked a post in a topic by INIT915 in AMVETS Bridge (TSP Northbound Yorktown) Reopens Tomorrow Morning
I personally disagree. I do feel it's fair that if your going to include a per diem penalty for running long, it's only fair to include a per diem bonus for getting it done early.
