After doing a little research the phones are being made by a company that licenses the caterpillar brand. And i don't think it's that weird. If the phones do well, the next thing will be the caterpillar laptop that's their version of the toughbook, and before you know it everything on a construction site will be made by caterpillar and they'll be rolling in the profits

Why? Are you looking to take the easier one and then use reciprocity to get the other state's EMT certification?

I think it's less that they can call the truck a tanker and more that it makes it easier to differentiate apparatus on the radio. In Rockland, engines are numbered by the pump size. For example Thiells has 26-1500, which is an engine with a 1500 gpm pump. However, when a department has multiple engines with the same size pump, they just add 1 to the previous engine, i.e. Thiells second engine is 26-1501. Now if you're a chief of a department with multiple engines with the same size pump, and you're trying to keep track of of apparatus on the radio, it's probably pretty easy to mix up between 26-1500, 26-1501, or 26-1502, and theoretically, that could go on for as many engines as you had. Therefore, most departments in Rockland designate an engine a tanker whether or not it is a tanker, because 26-tanker is not likely gonna get confused as 26-150x unit. At least that's how I always understood it.

  14. trauma74 liked a post in a topic by EMT111 in The difference between these scanners
there are several differences between these two scanners first is that the BCD536HP has a built in database, so you can just plug in you zip code to start scanning, or you can program it yourself. The BCD996P2 requires you to program it yourself. Second, the 536hp is a TrunkTracker V scanner, meaning it can scan APCO Project 25 Phase I and Phase II, X2-TDMA, Motorola, EDACS, and LTR Trunked Radio Systems. The 996P2 is only a TrunkTracker IV scanner, so it can't scan X2-TDMA systems. Finally, the 536HP will hopefully have a WiFi feature one day like was promised at launch, and the 996P2 won't. Basically, the BCD536HP was an attempt to combine the home patrol and the BCD996XTwith a WiFi feature, which did not work out well, where as the BCD996P2 is just an update of the BCD996XT to allow for P25 phase 2 system scanning.
  15. SageVigiles liked a post in a topic by EMT111 in Goshen may need to pay for fire service
Unfortunately not surprising with today's drop in the rate of volunteering, I know of one department in the same area that doesn't even have enough total certified drivers for all their apparatus. Two questions though, did they ever have 195 members, or is that what their state maximum is and they're only at half. Secondly, why is the state limiting how many members a fire company/fire department can have?

It happens. I've seen two ambulances (not FDNY and obviously not as big tires as fire trucks) in the past couple of years that have blown tires just from hitting drainage grates in the curb

In terms of the EMT payments, you are correct. As long as you are a member of an agency with a DOH number, and you pass the class, the class is "free", at least to you and your agency.

I guess I'm not sure why you're getting upset over the fact that this is an all female volunteer corps. This is a culture that places much more importance on modesty and separation of male and female than most cultures in the U.S.. Now yes, every EMT, male or female, gets all the same training to handle any emergency we come across, and we all conduct our selves in a professional manner. However, some times people are just comfortable with care providers of the same sex. Think about it this way, your a middle age man, you walk into the urologist's office cause you're experiencing erectile dysfunction, you walk into the exam room, and the doctor's a 29 year old woman. Are you really gonna tell me that you'd feel just as comfortable talking about your ED to a young woman as you would a man? Also, anyone one who is going to call this corps is most likely also going to be calling Hatzalah, who are the same culture, and are going to understand. Plus, isn't making the patient comfortable part of any EMS job? Finally, I don't think they're trying to question anyone's moral, rather they are just looking for someone who understands and follows their wishes based on their religion and culture.
