Sorry, maybe its me, but does anyone else find that the new colors on the website make it harder to read? I like the layout, design, features etc. but it seems just a little harder to read.
Just my 2 cents....

Billy liked a post in a topic by sympathomedic in Why so many fires in Yonkers?
I have spent 28 years doing EMS in this area. The "chirp" of dieing smoke detector batteries is constant, except where there are NO detectors. I read that every $1.00 spent on smoke detectors save $67.00 in fire damage.
If this area has more fires, by history, or some other measure, perhaps the Yonkers FD could concentrate their inspection and prevention efforts here? Makes sense to try to prevent the fires in areas where they are most likely to occur, AND most likely to kill - wooden multi-family dwellings. The lives saved by an aggressive, concentrated effort may those of YFD firemen.
Please don't respond with the gibberish that it can't be done. We are problem solvers in this field. This is a problem for us. We can and should solve it.

Seriously you are upset over language on a fire ground /tac radio? As long as it's not over main communications talk to each other however you want. On my jobs tac channel we speak anyway which way to get the job done or get a point across. As long as FCC and scanner buffs listening everywhere don't hear it who cares. This sounds like more PC BS that doesn't need to be brought up or have a topic thread open about it. Nice video though hope everyone got home safe.

Billy liked a post in a topic by x635 in The EMTBravo Incident Alert Shoutbox is Back! Can You Help?
Fellow Members,
You've probably noticed the "Incident Alert Live" box is once again at the top of the forum index. This was a popular feature before we upgraded the forums several months back, and it went on hiatus until a new solution was found.
The Shoutbox be used for putting out incidents in real time, even minor incidents. For example, someone can post in the box "Ardsley responding to a car fire on the New York State Thruway" or to inquire about incidents, such as "What does Somers have?". Very similar to the updates many of you make on various fire wires.
Please help to make this newly reestablished feature as successful as before. It's as simple as adding a sentence.
An example of what it looks like. It can be found on the TOP OF THE MAIN PAGE of the forum index.
(NOTE:If you don't like it, click on "My Prefs" on the box and you can choose not to display it)

Read that update and it still smells fishy to me. Mount Vernon is always going to be in ruins unless they just change the whole system up. The politics need to change and they need to bring in people to that fire department who know what they are doing and are willing to take the time to rebuild and fight for the necessities. The politicians can't be using emergency services as a political toy to bait with. Lives are at stake and those shenanigans need to stop. I don't know how many chiefs are retiring out of FDNY but maybe somebody with that level of experience should be running the department. That's just my two cents. If they don't take themselves seriously and try to make things better for themselves, nothing will change and they'll still be looked down upon. And that's not right to the firefighters who take the job seriously and to the people of Mount Vernon who rely on their services.

I grew up in Mount Vernon and as a former resident I am continually embarrassed by the state of affairs in that city. I was hoping the new Mayor was going to change things. I have friends and family members that used to be a part of MVFD and the situation in that department is particularly embarrassing and sad as well. Its always chaos.

EmsFirePolice liked a post in a topic by Billy in Memorial Day
Actually, personally, I think it is turning around. I think with all the activity in Iraq,Afghanistan, Syria etc..over the last 10-15 years that there has been more of a focus on Memorial Day for the right reasons. Particularly this year I thought there was a lot of attention to Service members living and decreased (PD and FD members included) and people do seem to take the time to remember. Social media helps too.

It is true and has been coming about for some time . Do any of you guys remember the time when North White Plains had there trouble with there chief , well guess who's chief in Port Chester . Said day for my brothers in local 1971. We are a busy dept with no room for this and if anyone has driven in Port Chester lately you can see the village is booming with new housing

As a member of local 1971 [ retired ] and a 44 year member of the PCFD . It's not about the firefighters it's about the community we live in and the safety of the residents that now are at risk . Most of you guys know me and know that during my career I had my share of fires over the years many and I mean many that I pulled up to by myself. Many voll pulled lines off my rig and started to attack the fire before the rest of the rigs got there . Now that element is lost We worked together well and that my fellow firefighters is what made our dept work .

My hands are still shaking over this . I was at Gulliver's and as you all know to well that it is the early stages of the fire that are the most critical and that night we through firefighters after firefighters at the rescue side of it and saved over 100 but that was when Engine 58 had a 2 man crew and Engine 59 had a 2 man crew because there where 16 on the job and the Volunteer side had men hanging off the rigs because there where no seats left to sit in. Port Chester is a very busy dept and the call volume will burn out the volunteers going to the small calls like CO ,trash, brush, car, and what ever in the middle of the night . One of the Chiefs is a member on here .

North White Plains has put into service this 1998 Freightliner/Saulsbury medium duty rescue that previously saw service in Centereach NY to replace the former Rescue 33, which has been disposed of.
It only has 14,000 miles. Some features include a 10KW Hydraulic Generator, hydraulic and electric cord reels, pull out equipment trays, (4) 500 Watt Mounted Lights, a 12,000 pound winch, and a heavy duty trailer hitch to tow the Air/Cascade trailer.
Special thanks to 2321 for helping me to get these photos.
