There seems to be sector and role portions of the profile. My role was somehow modified to police officer. Looking through this thread there seems to be number of other "police officers" as well.

I've been running the site on a desktop/google chrome browser and a netbook/chrome as well. No speed problems encountered. One thing I miss is the list of names at the bottom of a thread. It felt communal. Like I remember events as they were happening and there were 75+ members all crowded into the thread. Felt like something.
These new threads had the members reading it on the bottom, but that disappeared. Also the list of those who visited a thread is gone.
I'd like to see those two features put back up.

Sir, since you asked I've been an EMT for four years. In the interest of full disclosure I am also a medical student. In the State of NY there is no duty to act when you are not on duty. Please correct me if I am wrong but this document would seem to support this fact. The important part reads, "NYS statutes do not obligate an individual citizen, regardless of training, to respond to a situation or provide care unless there is a formal duty by job description or role expectation. Such a duty to act arises from participation with an agency having jurisdiction." Which I take to mean that if you are not at work you don't have the duty to act. The full document is here http://www.health.ny.gov/nysdoh/ems/pdf/98-05.pdf .
I am aware that there are many skilled prehospital providers out there, whom I would also trust my life to if necessary. However, I disagree that doctors need "tests and machinery" to act in a circumstance where an EMT would have no need for the same. The risk of lawsuit would also be no different, http://www.health.ny.gov/nysdoh/ems/art30.htm
"1. Except as provided in subdivision six of section six thousand six hundred eleven, subdivision two of section six thousand five hundred twenty-seven, subdivision one of section six thousand nine hundred nine and sections six thousand five hundred forty-seven and six thousand seven hundred thirty-seven of the education law, any person who voluntarily and without expectation of monetary compensation renders first aid or emergency treatment at the scene of an accident or other emergency outside a hospital, doctor's office or any other place having proper and necessary medical equipment, to a person who is unconscious, ill, or injured, shall not be liable for damages for injuries alleged to have been sustained by such person or for damages for the death of such person alleged to have occurred by reason of an act or omission in the rendering of such emergency treatment unless it is established that such injuries were or such death was caused by gross negligence on the part of such person. Nothing in this section shall be deemed or construed to relieve a licensed physician, dentist, nurse, physical therapist or registered physician's assistant from liability for damages for injuries or death caused by an act or omission on the part of such person while rendering professional services in the normal and ordinary course of his or her practice."
Given that both have no duty to act and equal protection from lawsuit and adequate training to respond to a situation when they have no equipment I see no reason for treating anyone differently.

    Salty Dog,
So FD, PD and EMS should get free airline tickets, cruise tickets along with free tickets to Disney because they have BLS skills or are willing to confront antagonists?? Are the engineers who designed the trains given free rides? Are Doctors, nurses, lawyers invited to ride free because they possess the knowledge to help a situation? If the Emergency Service employees are heading to or going home from duty I might buy it but other than that, pay the $12 like everyone else and shut up.

Personally, I don't think anyone should ride for free. Even though my father has been a detective down there for 30 + years, it's not right that they keep raising it for the public, but let them ride for free. I'd say let them on for a reduced price, or make their own card that FDNY or NYPD has to pay for monthly or yearly. Even though its a train, it's still public transportation, and can't find that without a fee, and i think that should go for all.
Speaking of trains, bridges also let PD and FD go through the tolls for free. Now, I could see why if there is a jumper or a emergency in the middle of the bridge( that goes for trains too, if theres a stabbing or a fire on the train, then it'd be fair), but to go someplace you really don't need to go to, or do, theres a fee, and it should be paid for all who use it, no matter who you are.
    Just my opinion.

Indeed Go to your profile, and go to the bottom left, you will see multiple tabs there, there will be one that says "Likes" click that one, and then you will be brought to the ones you have given out. If you don't want that, go to the top right (Of that box) and it will say, "Given & Recieved" press recieved, and that will take you to all of your posts, and it will show the person who liked it on the bottom right of the post.
    Hope that helped..

I'm overweight and I know it. Before I went to college I was doing great. I was down to a healthy weight and I felt great. I was doing physical labor working as a groundsman for a tree company. But then I went away for school and I went above and beyond the freshman 15. Between August and my normal yearly physical in October, I gained anywhere near 60 lbs. I've been trying to cut back on what I eat to loose some weight. I know I am overweight but I surprised myself at how much I was able to accomplish at a structure fire last year. But not I've lost that cardio ability. I'm still 250 lbs and I have to catch my breathe walking up stairs or up a hill. But I'm starting to exercise. And I'm hoping to lose 20 lbs by next October but I would really Like to to be more. I don't want to be 23 and have it be determined that I have a heart condition.

Excellent topic, thanks for starting it Moose. I praise you for being so honest and accepting that changes need to be made. I am currently on a rigorous workout/diet regime. I have done hours of research and so far in three weeks have lost 25 pounds, even with Easter! There are a few things that you should consider doing, that I have been having great success with.
1 - WATER - drink lots of water. If you feel hungry throughout the day, drink water and wait 10 minutes, magically, the hunger goes away but this is only TEMPORARILY.
    2 - Walk whenever possible.
3 - Discipline - you need to want to change, you need to fight through hunger urges. When you feel hungry, you most likely are not hungry, go a while without eating and you will soon learn that you can actually survive the hunger pains and train yourself to be less dependent on frequent munching.
4 - Eat more meals but make them smaller. (IE - breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, night snack if needed)
5 - Calculate BMR (Calories you will burn if you stay in bed all day) - http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
6 - Understand that one pound of fat is 3500 calories.
7 - Track calories, plan meals for the day, and track exercise using MyFitnessPal - http://www.myfitnesspal.com (Excellent iphone APP available to that allows you to scan barcodes.) You can also enter recipes and figure out nutrition info for each serving. You can set reminders to notify you if you forget to track your info. EXCELLENT TOOL!
8 - Snack on proper food, fruits, veggies, etc. Too much of anything is bad...
9 - Portion size - try eating proper portions, this alone will help.
Some snacks I have found fulfilling and healthy, trail mix, granola bars, yogurt, cottage cheese, hummus, veggies, fruit and much more.
TRY FOR NATURAL OR THE MOST HEALTHY FOOD OPTIONS. (IE NO PRESERVATIVE< ADDITIVES, ETC)
It's a hard journey but their are good resources available. Good luck Brother. PM me is you have any questions.

Not to bug you with more repuatation box posts again, but it used to say "excellent" or "building a reputation" i liked that feature on our profiles. I was just thinking new to the site members may view our profiles, and see a green box with a number in it, it always used to have writing in it, so I am not sure if its a mistake or something left out.
Thanks for all of your work to the site, it looks great.

The site looks great - very impressive. Never knew you could see details about members by putting cursor over name at "who's on/visiting site" (lower User) section - neat touch. Thank you for spending so much time and effort and probably stressful moments too trying to make the site more user friendly.
And, like this post, it is sooooo nice to have it auto saved so if it does not post earlier, and you have to go back to work in the real world because break is over (boo, hiss), you can find it again and toss it up there just so the over-worked EMTBravo stff member(s) who make this site so enjoyable and are trying to accomodate all of us with our different likes/dislikes/bells and whistles preferences can have fun playing.
Thank you, Seth!!!! And thanks to the moderators, who keep us in line....
Plus, I just edited my post.

109 Departments- I think it'd be a little difficult to get it all...

I wasn't sure where to put this topic so feel free to move it to where it belongs.
I felt this needed to be discussed openly with all of our brothers/sisters in a constructive way to hopefully prevent any future LODD's from MI's.
I for one, am extrememly overweight and have a vast family history of heart troubles and it scares me to see all of these firefighters passing from heart related issues, medical issues, or "Unknown" medical issues AFTER the call. How many LODD notices have I read lately with the firefighter passing at the station, or at home some time after the call has ended? How many have passed at the scene or at the station after responding for a call?
We need to step-up our efforts to increase physical fitness in the fire service and prevent each other from dropping with heart attacks and strokes. We need to encourage each other to improve our level of physical fitness, and start eating right.
You see grants being written for firefighting equipment, gear and trucks...but how about gym equipment for the station? It wouldnt take much to get a treadmill or bike, and some free weights at each station, Im even sure there are members out there who have the stuff lying around their homes that could store it at their station for all to use in an effort to keep everyone fit.
I want to loose weight, and I want to be there for my daughter when she graduates school, gets married and has kids of her own but its hard without help and encouragement. What does everyone else say about this issue?
    Stay safe AND healthy.

Sueg, I have my annual fire department physicals every year, the last one was in November 2011. I was checked out for class "A" interior, and the doctor told me the only thing she found was the weight and that I was to start thinking about diet and excercise. But they cleared me. I still take it easy though, when possible I am part of the command structure and just do what is needed, but in a small department like mine with only 9 interior qualified firefighters (including officers) its hard to not get active in interior firefighting.
Im watching what I eat now, and going for walks daily with the family and/or using one of those Total Gym units in my house. Im building my way up slowly to get my heart the workout it needs without overdoing it.
Thanks for your concern about me, I will take it easy and go slow for now until I get more conditioning.

Believe it or not, I have done that voluntarily before. I have gone right up to my chief and told them that I am going exterior/one bottle only in an emergency until I lose some weight. Some times they just stared at me in shock, others they understood, but I never got any help from any of them or support or guidance. I guess thats why I started this thread, to let everyone know that we should be reaching out to those members that may need better physical conditioning and offering them help and support. Especially those with heart problems already diagnosed and being treated for, those members with known medical issues, and us overweight brothers/sisters. I know that I would not turn down any advice or assistance or encouragement from my brothers and sisters to loose this weight.
Thanks for your replies and concerns everyone, keep them coming and reach out to someone in your department today and offer that encouragement and concern to them as well. We should and CAN change things around if we all work together.

I'm fascinated by that statistic. What exactly did 109 departments do at this fire? How much did they each send? Did they all actually operate or is that back-fill and coverage?
Without knowing exactly what resources were committed/operating, that's a very hollow stat for me.
