An early 6 am call to a woman in labor. The first chance the two guys I was with, and myself, ever had a chance to deliever a baby. On the floor, the healthy baby was delievered and the mommy was doing fine. Everything went great until I told the mother she had a baby girl. Her response was very short and to the point. She said; "I don't want it".
Such a great event in our lives to bring in a human being and then hearing that.
I don't know what ever happened to that mother or baby girl. Of course we had reported what the mother said to the hospital.
My wife and I never had any kids, but I sometimes think that maybe we should have tried to adopt her.

Night shift working Engine 58 with my partner Tom Z received a call over the house phone from a 80 year old woman it was midnight. She lived in the former Life Saver's factory building now Condo's on north main street. It was late October and was a cold night. She tried the super she tried the police who told her to call the fire dept. there not doing anything so she called us. My partner talked to her and calmed her down and gave me the thumb's up [meaning were going somewhere] as I was the operator of the rig . The problem that night is she was cold , in fact freezing as the 5x 8 foot factory windows were to much for her to close. 3 minutes later we where there, we closed the big windows for her and got a big kiss and a hug from her. One of my best nights on the job a simple helping hand for some one unable to do a simple task. I always new I can count on the Firefighters to come to my call for help she said. As we left the call we did not say a word to each other all the way back to the firehouse as the grin on our faces would not allow it. The next night we got a call again on the house phone and again it was her. She asked if the guys that came out last night were still on duty and if so can they come to my house again, well we did thinking this might be a problem starting to happen [freaquent flier] we rang the door bell and was meet buy the best apple pie you ever saw. We have the greatest job in the world guy's don't mess it up .

I think it has become more of an issue of the quality of the people that we are giving drivers licenses to. I would love to see some sort of re-certification when you reach a certain age.

The only they filmed in SH was the fly over of the village, with regards to accurate police uniform it is nothing like SHPD nothing in the show that I've seen represents the village that i love and protect.

It is the system that is broken.
Trying to fix each individual VAC is like swimming upstream. It is not going to work very well nor will it work for very long, and when you are done you will have the same problem next door. The ambulance response solution may be something akin to a County service, or regional merges and/or paid staff.
These issues have been happening for years. For most, the individual VAC's have been able to put off the issues, but as the issues gets worse, it can no longer be put off.
Many local Volunteer FD's are not far behind in facing the same manning problems.

This is simply not just an Irvington problem. It's a county-wide problem. Bottom line is those (politicians and governing bodies) with the power to push / demand / enforce real change just don't care. As far as people dyeing or suffering needlessly, we passed that threshold a long time ago. Fitch & Associates did the study in 2008 and no one did a god damned thing about it.

There it is, in black and white.

no but a change in the uniform would be nice when its above 90 black boots dark pants and dark shirts are just asking for trouble. a change to a light colored polo would be nice

Yes, Pleasantville VAC is still dispatched by Pleasantville Police on the DPW frequency, and communicate on the PD channel. We are not planning on switching to 60 Control.

Let me help you guys out alittle bit, when Sleepy Hollow when to start developing on the GM lot Tarrytown made a big stink that it would cause a massive increase in traffic and they went to court that was 2 years ago. Finally after the court decided it was crazy they threw the case out. Now they are dredging out the riverside to remove contaminated soil once the soil is removed building can start.

Would be nice to see the Tarrytown FFs using proper PPE. No hoods on any of the three and at least one not on air. Be safe, be smart, no rush to extinguish a car fire, take time to pack up properly.
