Are you for real? First off 46.26 does not dispatch Somers, and secondly, what large incident did Somers not respond to? In or out of district? I have maybe once, or twice heard that Somers did not cover an engine to standby in YHFD HQ. Never did I hear them not get enough manpower o/s of a "large incident" like you said.
If I remember right, didnt you say you lived in Somers? You see the structure fire a few weeks ago, they had enough manpower that an engine was parked on the side for the duration of the event. You see the brush fire a few months ago? Tons of manpower. Now, your turn to tell me the several large incidents they didnt show up to. Very Common is the LAST thing you should say about them, they had 6 different trucks out at 2am the other night for the thunderstorm that rolled by, but they dont show up to large incidents, huh?
    Please, elaborate.

Good god who was the brain trust that agreed to this.. So at 9 am, Croton FD gets dispatched to a working structure fire on Teatown Road, in our outer district which we have to go on route 9 into Ossining to get to... Or A Mutual aid call with the Tanker to Millwood's or Yorktowns outer area... how do we get there ???
Quaker Bridge is not rated for all but one Croton rig, and the Croton Dam is still closed to all traffic... Oh sorry Mrs. Jones, it took use 45 minutes to get there because the roads were shut down for a road race...
I hope the PD agencies or who every is planning this out have a plan to get emergency equipment through there if needed, because as of tonight, CFD knows nothing, great inter agency work here...

Hahaha, if Cuomo actually paid any attention to the state he is in charge of, and didn't just worry about what others think of him....

After shooting himself in the head, he then stabbed himself in the back 4 times and jumped off a bridge, just to make sure the job was done.
There's more to this one than is being published.

Does that mean my FD can get its money back? Its worth 2 firefighter positions.

I agree with all of the above (except the certain obvious points). Training is the name of the game. You never stop training, and if you do, then it's time to hang up the helmet.
Failure to train is training to fail, no exceptions.

Not to start an argument, but I have to ask if Everybodygoes is really a fireman? If so and you are actualy an Instructor, you really need to go. No disrespect but are you really listening to yourself? I work as a career firefighter in a fairly busy department, I also volunteer in my hometown. If members don't want to train, we don't need them. It is really that simple. If nobody volunteers than my taxes go up, but at least the people who show up are trained. Yes the fire department is my life and has been for 26 years. Why, because I still have passion for the job. I am an Instructor who teaches the same reguardless of them being volunteers or career recruits. To correct you on your EMS quote, the 60 hours DOH added is not a recomendation, it starts in my class next Tuesday. NYS needs to get in line with other states, and I think that is what they are trying to work towards. We just finished a FF1 class over 3 weeks, the 3 hottest weeks. These students busted their humps. You would think they won the lotto at the end, so much so that half of them went right into a week long FF2 class right after. Every single one of them signed up for the FF1 National Cert exam in September. You teach a good class they will come. Good Luck to you, hopefully you find happiness somewhere.

Once someone stops training, it's time for them to retire.

I whole-heartedly disagree with you, with all due respect of course.
Those that want to really, REALLY do something in their life will find the time and make it happen. People with disabilities overcome them and go on to be successful athletes, right?
To say if you increase the training standards for firefighters is going to result in less new people, I disagree. If you think it's going to cause senior guys who don't think they need this to pack it in, then so be it. They did their time, probably fighting more fires than most of us or future generations will. Everyone is so afraid that losing some members is going to destroy their departments - what kind of department do you have if everyone is satisfied being minimally trained? Let me know if you're one of these departments so we know not to call you Mutual Aid. Luckily, most of the departments near us go above and beyond the minimal expectations of the volunteer fire service.

"No firehouses will be closed"?!?!?! That's the same line of crap that they tried on us in. New York City. "Back-up companies"? I haven't been around too long, but I've never heard of a "back-up company".......
.....oh, you mean the ladder company with an engine, or vice versa? Right...that's what I thought. There are many underhanded tactics, but this one is just plain lying. It preys upon the publics complete lack of knowledge of fire service practices. They never share that the two companies in a double house perform two separate and equally important functions. Why educate the electorate? Why when it's easier to keep them in the dark about what saves lives, whether it be the truck searching or the engine getting a line in place.
I wish we could get a good campaign out there to help people understand how we work and what we need to operate effectively.

It looks like Comm. Kielb was vindicated. I guess the new guy coming in also told the Mayor and Dep Mayor that he could not operate safely with only one Batt. Chief. The second Batt. will be open again 24/7. Safety first

Don't forget Great Britain has been at our side since the wars began in the wake of 9/11. They've suffered tremendous casualties and paid a tough price just like we have. They are a civilized ally in a very uncivilized world, and have had the fortitude to stand up and do what has needed to be done.

Knowing the Taconic State Autobahn (er, "Parkway"), while the posted speed limit is 55, and while common sense may dictate that 50 is a little too fast for inclement weather conditions, I'd say that a majority of motorists would be doing at least 50 or better at any time, regardless of the weather conditions.

When we were out at Seagrave doing the final inspection on our Tanker, they were working on the P'ville Ladder and according to the guys doing the work, the thing was working like a champ, and drove perfectly. I have to admit it was wierd being so far from home and seeing local rigs...
