    LOL. ask again in October.
They generally don't start to bend metal till 90-120 before delivery. The upfront time is the waiting line and the time for the manufacturers to acquire all the components.

How can it be a secret if it drove past everyone from Nebraska to Conn.?
  4. Bottom of Da Hill liked a post in a topic by Avon Rob in Tarrytown Board Votes Out Fire Chief
If this turns out to be true, a sad day for both the village and the fire service. How can a man serve a second time as a chief, and be voted out? Lots of questions to be answered. Afraid that he will make them comply with OSHA & NFPA guidelines/regulations. This from a village that PESH deemed deliberately violated rules & regs. Shame on the Village Board. Is it true that the fire wardens voted that he advance at their meeting? Why hasn't the Journal News publish the results of the PESH determinations? The residents had a right to know PRIOR to the recent village elections. Didn't see much in either the Journal News or The Patch. Why?

you are way off on your statement about the chiefs replacement!!!! Its not the late Chief Mauro son. Get your facts correct before you post!!!

Apparently he does not do his job... He's too busy being a bigot. And while you might not have issue with anti-Italian remarks, I do. You see it's not just the remarks, it's the prejudice. Are Jews and Italians not worthy of promotion on HIS job? Or are they simply not hired based on their last name? For a guy who quotes Thomas Jefferson you have a lot to learn about Liberty and Justice for ALL.

He's not a private citizen, he's a uniformed officer. There's a difference. He's not Joe Shmo the anti-Semite, he's the face of the Fairview Fire Department. No one will remember his name, but they will remember what the FIRE CHIEF said.

220k Salary for a department of ~60 members? Wow, I must be doing something wrong.

I gotta say. I love this show. I know some people are complaining about unrealistic stuff and how it's just a big drama show. But you gotta remember, this is television, and the show is catered to a wide audience and not just emergency personnel. Look past that and just enjoy it for what it is, it's a damn good show. Suspend belief, and have fun lol. If there was a show that covered the not bit details, it may as well be a documentary / reality show. Prime time tv is all about action or drama or comedy, Chicago Fire wraps all that up into one.
I dig Chicago PD too. We'll see how it pans out. Glad they keep the show I remixed with characters from Fire showing up on PD.

Having been involved in the process, it's extremely difficult to get benefits if you are legitimately injured.
I just wanted to mention there is a lawyer hired by several Westchester departments to fight 207A claims no matter what. She has even written a book on it, and has held lectures at the New York State Fire District Association meetings. Synergized with evil, morally corrupt commissioners, she would fight someone who has his legs chopped off at a fire scene to deny him 207A.with pride.
Some heavy reading, but worth a browse through http://www.nychiefs.org/conference/207c_Seminar_Handout.pdf
There is a well-respected and well known Fire Lieutenant and instructor in a Westchester city who loved his job. While working at a multiple alarm fire, he suffered a clear cut career ending injury. He wants to go back to work. He can't. Yet he has been fighting for years to get the pension and benefits he deserves, having to attend numerous "hearings" and every side sending him to a different doctor, all of which say the same thing and draw the process out.. He lives everyday with pain caused by this injury. All he wants is for his retirement to go through, so he can move on with his life. Yet NYS, the city he works for, and 207A keeps screwing him and beating him down. He has medical bills he has to pay himself, because he's still fighting for the benefits he deserves. Maybe the article in the newspaper should be telling this Lieutenant's story.
The process is broken, and screwed up.The people who abuse it seem to get through the process easily, while those who really need it have to deal with numerous hearings, doctors appointments, a never ending cycle of things that takes years to get.

Based on what I know of the incident, I think information that has been given till the investigation has conclued has been adequate, that being said any political issues you percieve to be present had no affect on the outcome of this fire. I know that there are people who would try and use this terrible event for personal and political gain as I see which camp this is coming from. I'll also throw in its damn difficult to fight a fire when your turnout gear is in a burning firehouse. You'll most likely get more information as it's released, not sooner.

This is another interesting development in the never-ending saga of "you can't tell me what to do" because we're an independent fire company. Not true in the eyes of the law and all those citations prove it.

For the discussion about whether FF are employees are not, this highlights the point again, volunteer FF's are employees and you can't ignore OSHA, PESH or other regulations.
    RIP!

    Interesting issues.
    1) The case proved that the Village of Tarrytown clearly has no defense again its willful violation of the law. I suspect the next and final step in this story will be the litigation against it by the families of those who died. I suspect the payout will be very large.
    2) The Village has "NO CONTROL" over the actions & operation of the fire department is no defense. If you have an FD, you are responsible for its actions.
    3) If your Fire dept. does not have a written policy that clearly instructs all members that they must understand what a confined space is (confined space awareness) and they are never permitted to enter or if they are permitted, they must have the original & annual training, equipment, and the written procedures or you are violating the law.
For 18 years before this incident, OSHA has used this exact scenario to describe how workers and rescuers die in confined spaces. Hopefully the many depts. that do not comply with the law have taken notice and corrected the situation. This incident should never have happened, but I am sure it will again in some community that fails to learn from this.

If I recall correctly, the fire chief/commissioner usually fills out a list of desired engines & ladders, etc. that they wish on alarm assignments. I have buried somewhere a copy of the original mutual plan for Westchester County. I will post when I find it. I think part of the provisions was that you must offer to give mutual aid if requested in order to get mutual aid.

    Are you kidding?
If its someone not from the dispatch to this incident, it does not matter who it is, they are not in charge.
If their role is NTSB, than that's their role. NTSB is not in charge of an incident, they are in charge of the investigation.

If the brand comes back maybe they should change the name to Nosferatu Fire Eq. Co. Back from the dead again. I'm sure Patriarch got every nickel from the company before they slinked away.

I guess I have a couple of things to say:
    1. There are so many typo's in this exam notice I lost count.
    2. You DO NOT need a High School diploma OR a G.E.D. ( I guess you don't need one to write the exam either )
    3. You can be a convicted criminal and/or a drug addict.
    4. You need to lift a 14' roof ladder. ( Who's going to grab the 24' or the 28' for that matter ?)
I'm old school, I admit that. But it's hard to read the exam requirements and not shake my head. I'm starting my 24th year as a Captain. I have been asked many times "what makes a good firefighter?". The answer is: give me a person who played High School sports; who has common sense; and who has a working knowledge of the trades and I'll make you a good firefighter. And that's all I have to say about that.

Can't you put a performance bond in the bid in case of situations like this?
And I wonder if there's any company that will buy the truck "as is" and finish it up? Or would it be seized in the bankruptcy case?
It's an interesting side note that the same investment group, Patriarch Parters, owns Transcare as well, amongst other companies.
