Is this part of the ProBoard program, or the NY programs that don't really apply anywhere else?

Yup, life does go on, but that doesn't mean that we (as firefighters) should use life going on as an excuse to not take out time every year to honor all of the first responders who were murdered on 9/11/01. And, in case you haven't kept up with what's going on in the fire service, thousands of 9/11 first responders are seriously ill due to the time they spent at the World Trade Center site and many have died from various cancers. 9/11 is still affecting responders and their families in a very bad way over 13 years after the attacks. Clearly you have no problem planning non 9/11 related events specifically on 9/11 rather than any other day of the year and clearly you have no knowledge of (or don't care to acknowledge) what this event did to the firefighters, EMS personnel and law enforcement personnel who responded, lost lot's of close friends, relatives and co-workers that day as well as in the years that follow, are haunted by the effects of PTSD as well as cancers, and chronic health issues. Anyone can dress like a first responder, but not everyone has what it takes to actually be one. God bless all those who were murdered that day, suffer from chronic illness and continue to die directly as a result of the bravery, dedication and patriotism they exhibited when our country was attacked. And don't forget, our nation's first responders are dealing with the ongoing threat of terrorist attacks still to this day.

Sort of like the old kitchen table quote. Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story. They can go on TV and try to spin this any which way they please. The facts are indisputable. A gang member from Baltimore shot and killed his girlfriend ( most likely because she was going to out him on his plan ) and headed to NYC to " put wings on pigs today ". I can see the cover of the Times tomorrow. Ismaaiyl Brinsley was a good kid who was only weeks away from attending community college to get his life in order. He was active in his community ( selling crack to the community ) and a role model ( to the kids they hire to sell the crack ). His mother Ms Not his last name and father Mr not his last name ( because he a was being raised by his Aunt ) can't understand what went wrong in his life and can't believe those cops chased their son down the subway and shot him ( he would never kill himself ). Lets blame everyone in society for our problems and not look in the mirror and hold ourselves accountable. WHAT A TRAGEDY IN ALL ASPECTS OF THIS STORY. THANK YOU PRESIDENT OBAMA, MAYOR DEBLASIO, AL SHARPTON ( I refuse to use Rev in front of his name ) JESSE JACKSON AND ALL OF THE HATE SPEWING RACIST LEADERS IN THIS COUNTRY!!!!

I hope the NYPD sends out a call to arms to ALL Uniformed personnel ( PD, FD, EMS ) to block all the roads leading up to the LODD funerals of PO Liu and PO Ramos from all politicians who are looking for another soapbox to stand on. All uniformed should stand united, arms locked and make these POS politicians try and walk the " walk of shame " through the sea of Blue. It is time to stand united!!!

Glad to see there will be a Westchester County Convention again. Unfortunately, be prepared for all the negative comments about parades and social events.......

I found its rarely coming from the lawyers. Its coming from the "Firehouse Lawyers" like the ones here. Or from the managers who have spoken with a lawyer (general law, not one that specializes in this). It has often be said that if you ask a roomful of lawyers an opinion, you will get a different one from everyone in the room. That being said, I know an emergency service lawyer, who will save you or take everything you own (depending on which side he is on) if you screw up with a response. He particularly likes going after agency for poor maintenance or failing to replace equipment that should have been.
You are correct. I would have still been fighting this

Sadly there are now requirements to be a Chief in most of NYS but be comforted to know to be a licensed barber you need 1020 hours not mention the beauticians license and their training.
So you might be safer in a barber shop or beauty salon, then with the incident commander

From my take on all of this banter about how to respond, are your drivers that bad? So out of control that you don't trust them to get from one location to another?
If it is the driver that is reckless, and the officer doesn't have the balls to control him, that is the real problem. If it is the officer that is out of control, and the driver lets him get away with it, that is another problem.
IT IS ONLY ANOTHER CALL WE ARE ASKED TO RESPOND TO.

why ??? in this case 4000 reasons... and from sympathomedic calculations, to save 5 maybe 6 minutes ??? really ?? logic is where ?
In my clueless opinion, is not worth it.. Sorry if you think differently then me, but every time I get behind the wheel of an apparatus, I am concerned for the safety of my crew behind me all the idiots, friends and family on these roads I am traveling... shouldn't every driver think like that? STOP kidding your self... public safety is job # 1 and going through a red light is not safe for the general public...
M'ave - this is not NYC, where traveling blocks can take a long time with the traffic, ( Might you I do not have allot of experience in driving down there, but have discussed it with many drivers )so if it what they want to do, so be it... they are FDNY ... and I have read back through this discussion and it seems split of the YES and NO's here... so are we really reading the same thing...
Look if you really feel RLS are needed for mutual aid, so be it, but god help you if your in an accident and someone is killed for a mutual aid stand by... the lawyers will have a field day with it.
From this incident, has the department kept or changed their policy on RLS for coverage calls ?
  21. Bottom of Da Hill liked a post in a topic by M' Ave in Responding to cover
I hear you, but you're missing the whole basis of my argument here. If mutual aide is done correctly and resources are spread efficiently, then you would be coming from a distance that requires the use of RLS to reach your new area of responsibility for the duration of the incident keeping the primary agency busy. Being in NYC has no significance in how you allocate resources and how you get them into an under served area. Once again, an area devoid of emergency services IS an emergency.
As for the lawyers....not worried, so long as I'm driving my Engine in a safe manner and operating with "due-regard" for the conditions around me. How am I protected? This:
Straight from "The Books", FDNY Safety Bulletin, Chapter 1, Section 2:
Sirens and warning lights may only be used when engaged in Emergency Operations , i.e.: responding to or operating at an alarm, or relocating to the quarters of another unit.

Of course, there have been occasions for career and volunteer joint operations in Westchester. Last month the City of White Plains FD worked mutual aid with North White Plains FD and other first responder agencies (both paid and volley) in a rope rescue in a remote area of a park. I have heard of a few instances where Volleys covered a paid jurisdiction or assisted on a scene but it is not a regular operation in Westchester. Some areas like Elmsford work with paid companies more often and we have plenty of combo departments as well.
I believe you are aiming at the question, do departments expect certain standards/training credentials from a Volley or Paid dept when providing mutual aid or on a dual response? I am not sure if there are any specific mutual aid agreements or MOU's between any paid and volley agencies in Westchester but volleys follow the FFI, II standards whereas the paid departments have the career training classes (as Barry mentioned).
When I volleyed upstate NY there were times our agency provided services to a fully paid department and they expected a staffed engine with 6 interior qualified members. Standard wise that was as close as it got.
