  1. The Horns are a back up to the pagers and it does not bother me that they go off, they are letting the people know that there is a call. Most volunteers rely on them as well as their pagers. I dont believe the horns are a bad thing, you just have to get used to them because they are not going away. I live near West Harrison and North White Plains and I hear their sirens all the time and that does not bother me at all. Two weeks ago people up in Yorktown got a scare when a siren that was not used in fifteen years started blowing, it blew for fortyfive minutes, that is scary.
  2. Congratulations to all members of the Croton Fire Dept who have been elected officers in the dept I hope 2006 will be a great year for you all
  3. My condolences to the Stewart family. Being a police officer in New York City is very tough job, you face danger everyday being in uniform regardless where ever you are police officer. Officer Stewart was killed by a brutal thug a person who has no regard for human life. Police every where face danger not only in NYC but everywhere, thats why people need to be thankful for them because they put their life on the line for everyone. I am thankful for the police because at least I know they are looking out for the good people and not people who break the law.
  4. Vey nice work, the site looks much better much more detail. Keep up the good work
  5. That is terrible to hear, my condolences to the whole family, my prayers are with you.
  6. Rye has a great football, they deserve it they worked real hard all year and it paid off, Congrats Rye you are number one
  7. That going to hurt, serves him right for doing that. Normal people dont do that.
  8. Those fryers are too dangerous. Oil splattering all over the place can cause serious fires. I saw something yesterday on turkey fryers, I am not going to mess with those things NO WAY not me.
  9. Anyone who offers to kill any american is a piece of garbage, we need to stand up for this country and defend it with pride. Sept 11th was the one of the darkest moments in the usa, I will never forget it. Thanks to the Australian people you guys are great people.
  10. Something has to be done to that bridge it is not safe anymore
  11. Evading taxes that wrong
  12. White Plains runs one 105 ft ladder truck, one 75 ft quint, one 85 ft rearmount tower ladder and a spare 100 ft ladder truck all the trucks mentioned are rearmount ladder trucks. We used to have tillers and a mid platform tower ladder many years ago.
  13. Its going to be rescue 75, very interesting good asset to the dept especially for car accidents
  14. All the old White Plains fire apparatus were Maxim those were some classic trucks except for TL-6 it was a sutphen. When I was young I remembered seeing them responding to calls
  15. I now understand why you decided to buy the tower ladder, instead of a pumper. It makes alot sense to have a second ladder truck.
  16. I believe construction has been completed. The station is behind police headquarters it is a nice facility it was something that dept needed because ladder 41 quarters is too small for their current ladder truck. It should be in the top ten of best looking firehouses in westchester. I rate this firehouse as the second best looking fire station.
  17. Good luck with the wetdown. Why did Tarrytown decide to purchase a tower ladder instead another pumper ? The lettering and the color of the truck is very interesting, the blue and grey color is an interesting color scheme, you rarely see trucks with this color, this truck was well designed and serves the dept well in the future.
  18. Thats shocking to hear I would not think that would happen to ALF. I hope that this does not mean the end of the company. I hope this does not happen to KME because they build good quality fire apparatus. I am sorry to hear that BCFD is having problems with TL-40 I am sure all the mechanical problems will be solved. Today there are only a few remaining manufactorers of fire apparatus, and it is sad to see ALF being sold they have been around 125 years, I dont think ALF is going to go out business, they are too strong of a company to go down like that
  19. They look good in that new gear, I am glad they got new gear for the firefighters I am sure it is more comfortable and less restrictive. Having new gear is important not all fire depts issue new gear which is not right. No fire fighter wants to wear old long gear that does not provide adequate protection.
  20. fire depts should be able to buy gear for the firefighters and it is a good idea to have secondary gear as well. Many volunteer fire companies when they have new members they usually give the new guys the old long gear and eventually they buy new gear. Globe and Morning Pride hands down make the best turnout gear. The difference between the two is globe gear has the zipper and Morning Pride has the hook- dee. Fire-Dex also manufactures good gear and has the the same design as Globe. White Plains firefighters wear Morning Pride turnout gear. I feel that depts should have rules pertaining to the gear that firefighters wear today. All turnout gear that firefighters wear today should be the standard of fire fighting today.
  21. As long as it protects you the color is not really important, the lighter colors dont absorb the heat like the black gear. Personally I like the black gear because of the long tradition of it, the light colored works for me too but it whatever you prefer.
  22. Who else is getting new equipment, is Mt Kisco replacing ladder 43 or the tower ladder. When is Eng 104 going to be replaced. Yorktown is due for a new ladder truck the one they have now is 37 years old and that is a long time for a truck to be in service but I am sure it still does the job regardless. I hope all the new fire apparatus serves their depts well.
  23. In White Plains firefighters wear black helmets and Lts wear yellow helmets with white fronts and of course the chiefs wear white. I think it is a good idea to have different colored helmets for different ranks in the dept. The majority of depts all the fire fighters wear the same color helmet regardless of rank with the exception of the chiefs they always wear white helmets, as long the helmet protects you that is what is important not the color
  24. Not all depatments do that but I think it is good idea for when the truck is backing up to have all the guys that on the truck get off and stop traffic to make sure that the truck is backed in safely so no one gets hit
  25. Banksville fire dept responds to alot of calls, their tones go off alot . They have a good fleet of equipment that gets the job done. Does anyone know how along they had that ladder truck, I know it is 1968 Maxim, do they have plans on replacing it.
