As usual, work interfered with buffing a fire, and I got there around 0820, almost 2 hours into the fire. Looking north from the Gun Hill Road #2 subway platform

Photos from today's NYPD REMA (Retired Emergency Man's Association) Day of Remembrance at Floydd Bennet Field. Wasn't feeling so great, so only got a couple of shots and then left. Got more shots, will try and post later.

When I started this topic, I was looking to hear about the rescue. "The man's legs were stuck under 50 tons of truck, caught between the blah, blah, blah....and we did this and did that and sent for the surgical team, etc. etc. etc."
    BUT,
Instead I got to read a pissing match between "adults" about whether the police handled the traffic duties correctly.
Sorry I asked a question and got everybody upset!

No need to appologize. I hindsight this should have been a topic for a separate thread and if anything you are the one owed an apology for having your topic detailed and I appologize for being part of it.

These photos are by my great friend and very talented and knowledgable Worcester FD and Central Mass photographer Paul Shea. He's an awesome guy, and gets some awesome shots on almost a daily basis. Today, he got some truck work in Worcester. Thanks to Paul for letting me share these photos I hope.

From left to right (front) twin Engines 208 and 209. (Rear) Quick Attack 205, Engine 207, Quint 206, and Rescue 214. 214 was delivered a couple of days ago. Sorry I didn't have time to get individual pics. Pics taken at their central house. They run out of three with a fourth in the planning stages. As I was leaving they got a run and 209 and 214 responded. Pics taken by me on 04/19/2013. If someone can size I would appreciate it.

While specialized units are important and needed in this situation,I do feel that again, this is a prime example of why training and adequate manpower are a must. The cop on the street must have the means with training, equipment and adequate manpower to be able to contain a situation. While in the end, an entry team of highly trained and equipped personnel would be able to enter and or control the situation,it's the everyday street cop that is going to make the difference. I fully support the concept of these tactical teams, but until they muster and arrive,it's the patrol cop/s that will be needed to contain the problem, and without theproper training equipment and staffing that makes it impossible.
Post 911, funding was abundant for all sorts of training and equipment, but the powers to be seem to have lost focus on this, show me a job that is staffed better than pre 911,and I would be impressed,I believe most jobs have been cut to the bare bones...

I have depended on "sfrd.." for much information regarding many depts. He is a buff and a volunteer firefighter. I don't think it is in his nature to try and impress you. He has a wealth of knowledge about many departments throughout the northeast. Is he right 100 % ? Maybe not. Maybe he wasn't right this time, But if I was a gambling man, I'd put my money on what he says. And at 22 years old, or there abouts, "I think he's a Credit to his generation".
I hope he isn't discouraged from posting on here because of some misunderstanding. I'm sure there's more than a few of us who sometimes have our stories or facts somewhat distorted on various occussions.
If I thought he was some cocky, know-it-all kid, I'd never posting here in his defense.

When I restored the General Ike (B85F 1242) from my old college department in Gettysburg, I requested information from the Mack museum about Millwood's B95 as well. The truck resides today in Circleville, and I'm not sure if I can ever get it back, but I intend (when finances permit) to approach the gentleman up there about purchasing it with the intent to restore and donate back to MFC.... In the meantime here are some photos for all of us who fondly remember the original Millwood Engine 5 or in County DES terms E-245... I responded to my very first alarm as a FF on this rig to a Yorktown job tucked deep into a small cutout of the Millwood Fire District on near the intersection of Adams and Possum off Pinesbridge Road. T-15 doesn't have an ounce of the class that this old Mack has....
Built entirely at the Mack facility in Allentown, PA (some trucks had bodies and chassis manufactured in separate facilities) with a construction date of 1-31-1959 and a delivery date of 3-26-1959 it was a very progressive rig for it's day (not surprising though as MFC has always been a progressive albeit small department). With a 1500 gal tank, lots of enclosed storage (including the preconnects, hard tubes, and pike poles being covered on the hose bed) enclosed seating for 5ff's, and an early version of a pre-piped foam eductor it was one hell of a rig.
It is one of only two tandem axle Mack B model fire trucks made by the factory. The other was delivered in June of the same year to Gallery Chemical Co. near Pittsburgh, PA as B95FSW 1161.
Enjoy the photos snapped shortly after delivery.....

I "liked" this post, Sir, not for the destruction and loss, but for the story....in my opinion, one of the many romances in the fire service is listening to stories told by guys...especially guys who have legitimatly "been there, done that"...and just like the wrought iron and wainscoating, true stories, are "getting gone" in the modern day fire service.
Thanks for sharing...I could listen all day.

Went through this many years ago. Stopped at my fathers house for breakfast, on the way into work for 9x6 tour. He said-"hey, your firehouse is on 43st.,right? I think it has been destroyed by a huge fire!" I hoped (selfishly) that it was the other company,Engine 65, also on 43 st., not Rescue 1. No, it was my firehouse- the 6-story (heavy timber) piano factory burned (arson) and collapsed onto our 3-story quarters.
We spent 2 weeks digging through the pancake collapse, getting to our lockers and finding old photos and memorabila (sp?). One of the guys had many large coffee cans filled with quarters, and another had all the masts and sails and gear for his sailboat in the cellar, in addition to his three boys band equipment. (He told his boys that they could rehearse in the firehouse basement, as long as the Captain wasn't working). Well one day the Captain made a last minute mutual, and ending up working during a "rehearsal". Needless to say, he wasn't happy when he heard a huge racket going on in quarters!
Anyway, we had to relocate for several years to E34/L21 on 38st. unil a new quarters was rebuilt on the site. Of course the wrought-iron circular staircase and the old kitchen and the wainscoting-all gone in the new "modern" station. Losing your firehouse to a fire is very painful even if it was an accident.
