Many years ago almost all of the County parks had summer police assigned to them.  They used to be called "specials" and wore the County PD uniforms with the old patch and hats with "a 50 mission crush". We were armed with a .38. Many police officers of my time started off as specials.  "

You could be thinking of the P/T Deputy Sheriffs of the PSEF (Public Safety Emergency Force) AKA the green shirts.

Peace officer status.  Baton, OC, cuffs.  No firearms.  They stopped carrying firearms and changed uniforms to baby blue collar shirt that says Park Ranger in 2001 I believe.  Prior to that you could barely tell the difference between the county specials and and actual Police Officers.  Uniforms were pretty much identical. Which can be good and bad.  I believe the county patch on the arm was the difference but someone here I'm sure can correct me on this.

They do not carry firearms, though they do have batons and if memory serves me correctly OC. As far as police powers, they have peace officer status.

Empress EMS is the new contractor for Montefiore EMS. They are running 4 ALS trucks to start, as part of the NYC 911 EMS system, and went into service the other night after months of hard work and planning. This is one of the four trucks (2016 Ford F-350 4x4/AEV Traumahawk), and the Supervisor truck (2016 Ford Expedition).

I do not like to post my affiliation on here for the world to see. I do however, like to provide friendly advice and pointers for those looking to achieve their dream of becoming firefighters.

If you would like to send me a "pm" i can answer any questions you may have.

p.s. I did not mean to come across arrogant. I apologize if I did. The point is, the best thing to do is channel all of your energy into putting yourself in the best position to be hired. If you overthink things, it makes you nervous and that does not help matters

For this reason, social services are being focused on in order help reduce EMS call volume, and additionally, help people kick their drug habit. We started doing this with our frequent flyers.

Already have a fire job, not leaving to go to a city who's mayor is more concerned about his political career and would sell out his city to get a chance at the state house.

My concern is the degradation of standards in the fire service in the interest of diversity. I don't know if you could say the hiring process have gone well if it leads to hiring firefighters who ...

These are just the first  stories from the past few years that pop up in a quick Google search. Are you seeing this kind of criminal behavior in such numbers in departments like  Greenwich, Norwalk or anywhere in Westchester (besides cities that hire only residents to promote diversity)? No, you're seeing this is Hartford, in Bridgeport, and New Haven. Cities that dumb down tests and give city residents enormous legs up on the test.

Even if Hartford had no residency preference I wouldn't be taking this test, so that's not what matters to me. What infuriates me about this is seeing the fire service dumbed down to the point that criminals who can barely read or write their own names are being handed jobs, while guys from out of town who actually want the job and would work hard don't get a chance.
