Just looking for comments on a "trend" that may be starting regarding new "Engine" appartaus being designated as "Rescues". According to Westchester DES - Fire Apparatus Page, the County will follow NFPA Guidelines for fire apparatus classifications. The following is from the DES site. Pumper Apparatus - Fire apparatus with a permanently mounted fire pump of at least 750GPM capacity, a minimum water tank of 300 gallons, hose storage for 2 1/2" or large diameter hose and... pre-connected hose lines. Rescue Apparatus - A support vehicle, not designated for patient transport but contains tools for life support, extrication, emergency medical care. I have got nothing against Engines or any other apparatus carrying rescue equipment or whatever other equipment the Department may need. If a Department wants to designate an Engine for "Rescue" operations that is fine, but its primary role, and classification is an "Engine" for the sole reason that the "Engine/Rescue" is not a support vehicle as stated in the definitions above. My comments are only about applying the proper designation the apparatus.

Driving by Yonkers Station 10 today I glanced an old ALF (couldn't tell if was an Eng. or Lad.) parked down behind the station. Anyone know anything?

Saw on the DES website that SHFD has MA29 reserved.

Found on the FCC's website that Hartsdale Fire District has a pending application for what appears to be a repeater link. Freq's are 478.05/481.05. Anyone have additional info?

Nothing has been mentioned at our Company meetings about a delivery date. I know there was an article in the paper awhile ago that they were looking at one for about $265-280K.

When the new trunked radio system comes online low band (46.26) will only be for dispatch. All apparatus communications will be on trunked UHF or fireground UHF.

You're right, I'm wrong. That's what happens when you type before you think. I got the Uniden Bearcat 898T for the firehouse. Again very easy to program. Just saw it at Scanners-r-us.com for $175.00. I actually picked up a Pro2052 on ebay about 6 months ago. The version I got was the original "A" model and that one will not scan both trunked and conventional systems at the same time. The newer "B" version supposedly will. For more info on scanners check out the forums section at RadioReference.com

Excellent scanner for the price (approx. $200-$225). Very easy to program and has PL/DPL capability. I just purchased one for my firehouse and no complaints. Yes it will receive Westchester's new analog trunked system, but not Rockland's proposed digital trunked system.

HFD may be trying to lower their ISO rating. A Training Center is one of the things that could lower it.

Your reception range is greatly affected by the antenna you connect to the scanner. Obviously the higher the antenna is the better the reception.

www.Radioreference.com is an exellent site for reviews of scanners. Check out their forums section. FYI - Westchester's new trunked system will be analog, so if you want to save a few $, get an analog only trunked scanner. Rockland is proposing a digital UHF system (see other post in this forum). RadioShack through their Commercial Sales Division offers "significant" discounts on their scanners when you purchase in volume. If anyone is interested in this, e-mail me and I will give you the info I have for this offer. I picked up the Pro2051 on ebay several months ago and it is a great little base/mobile analog only trunked scanner.

Somers only has 4? I recall seeing pictures of Somers stations 5,6,7,8, etc. :wink:

From The Journal News legal section 7/1/05, Westchester County is advertising for bids for "Installation of Radio Building, Summit Avenue, Port Chester". Bid opening 8/20/05. If I am not mistaken, I heard that there is a water tank located there that currently does not have any radio equipment on it.

Last week in The Journal News legal section, the County is going out to bid for the installation of the radios at the Ossining, Bedford(Fox Lane), and Peekskill sites. Reviewing past posts in this thread, at the Battalion 12 informational meeting in Feb. it was stated talkgroups will be assigned by Battalion (one each for Fire and EMS), along with others for DOT(BeeLine Bus) and Hospitals.
