Let's see if it even makes it back to the factory!

I passed SFRD Rescue 1 this morning on I-684 near Katona, heading north. looked like a mechanic was driving it.

This is little surprise to me, our HME chassis engine was problematic from day 1 to the point where at year 5 or so numerous floor cracks and wear were discovered. While this was corrected by HME after Rosenbauer (who'd acquired Central States the original manufacturer) turned their back on us (other body issues as well). But alas, the engine which is second string now still has numerous issues and soured our FD to anything HME. For what it's worth, the VFD next door has two "newer" HME's that have few issues, though see far less street time.

Yes, that is the 93 Mack....it is now painted in Police black and white, but could easily get some paint and back to where it should be.

This is the rig, right? Looks nice. I hope SFRD can figure something out with the "new" one..

Stamford's HME Rescue 1 is now out of service indefinitely. This comes less than 2 years after going into service. The body has significant wear issues, including floor cracks and failures. The truck has been stripped and is headed back to the factory in Michigan, where HME claims that they will try and rebuild it. This is the second time the truck has had to go back to the factory since delivery. The first trip was for significant water leaks in the body. Stamford is running their old Hackney rescue for now that can't fit all Rescue 1 has to carry, and there is talk about trying to get the older 93 Mack Rescue back from the Police Department
Also, Stamford Rescue 1 is one of the premier rescue companies in the northeast. They deserve the best apparatus available. The people who spec'd the HME Rescue 1 weren't really given a choice as to what manufacturer they could go with, and they did the best they could to spec it with what they had to work with.

The old Mack is back and is currently at the Fire Departments Maintenance Garage. It has been sitting for 2 years as the PD never used it. It needs a little TLC and then maybe a quick paint job then i'm sure it will be back in service.

Hey, let's face it! We have been lucky for the past few years. The majority of you all don't remember when it snowed on Easter Sunday, and it was the last week of April!!! Granted that was in the late 70's.

Who cares!!!! If a department wants to run its own aerial truck, rescue or what ever they have the right too. Remember one thing, it all ends when Mr. & Mrs. Taxpayer start asking "Why is our (insert the vehicle) keeps going to the other town instead of protecting our own?" why do we have to rely on mutual aid on every call??

That is why you need more than two lifting points just for that! All I can say is wow!!! I wonder how the damage is to the dock structure with all that weight coming down?

The Village is in the process of doing that.

I may be out of line here but has there been any consideration by the village to donate the old pumper to one of the storm effected departments in NY or NJ?

Last night, the Easton FD suffered an LODD. Reports are a truck was responding to an alarm when a tree struck it. The firefighter suffered major head trauma. No other information is available at the time. Information will be and should be posted here when official word has been released.

They are calling Sandy a hybrid storm and not an a-typical hurricane due to the barometric pressure being as low as the 1938 storm. New London, CT is getting flooded near the shore line like back then.

CT has banned trucks on the highways at 11a and closing all highways at 1p.
I'm at work, three shifts on since yesterday afternoon.

Words cannot describe what I just read. Shocked is an understatement. I still have pics from when I first met him at HHH&L wet down for the stick. Always had a pleasure hanging with him when I stopped by on a Thursday night. I'll miss Charlie!!
