  1. Thanks NYSEMT We have the "ABC Bombs" already but wanted to add the chains as another tool. I got the picture now of the chains and will work on that. I also like the "Windex" bottle idea and will add that to the arsenal. Great Idea Simple
  2. Does anyone have any pictures of what is on the business end of the chains they use ? We have an old (not sure what its called) contraption that after you drop it down, you pull a second chain (there are 2) and it opens up and scrapes the wall on the way back up theoretically cleaning the walls off. We are revisiting our chimney fire tactics and that thing is going into the garbage to be replaced by something more effective. Any Pictures or detailed descriptions would be appreciated. Good Thread BTW. Very Productive. Likin' It !!
  3. Holy Crap........ At least on the fire side we have some sort of an idea what we are up against most of the time. My hats off to the boys in blue.... Scary Stuff. Careful out there guys...
  4. SVI out of Loveland Colorado http://svitrucks.com/
  5. Are there any plans to list the topics in the forum back to the way they were with most recent replies at the top of the list and allowing the older ones with no discussion to fall off to the bottom ?
  6. I have always wanted to do that, but I think my Chief may ask whyI didn't just put the folding tank elsewhere................
  7. We built the Spec to be generic enough that anyone could put a bid on it so its not like it was tailored to any specific builder. Gowens did come to one of our "Pre-Bid" meetings but in the end opted not to put a bid on it. We wanted a 365 day turn around and as Grumpy said, they were just too busy with their current workload to commit to that. We went to SVI for our Pre-Con meetings and I will say that we were all very impressed with the quality of their workmanship and have no reservations on deciding to go with them.
  8. Question...... I got my permit (Restricted) when I lived in Westchester many years back. Carry to and from range, only Target & Hunting I believe is the restriction. Now I live in Putnam County. Is there a way to get it amended to Full Carry now that I am out of Westchester ?
  9. Has anyone out there had a rig built recently with a second parking brake on the officers side of the cab. This would be as a safety precaution in case the driver becomes incapacitated, the officer could set the brake from his seat. This would not be a standard pull type switch, but a safety switch with a protective cover over it requiring 2 separate actions to activate. We are building a new Rescue and are being told that Spartan will not install this due to some federal guideline. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
  10. Great Technical Rescue. Well Said. The Ultimate Practical Exam. It is hard to tell but it appears that they have the Rescue Line tied off to a skid on the Helicopter. In picture 6 they have one end anchored to a BFR. Picture 9 shows the other end of the zip line, You can't see what its tied to but appears theres nothing else around to anchor to except the skid on the hello. IF that is in fact the case, is that an acceptable anchor ? I guess it is because they are using it. I would not think so but never had a need to think about doing that (and am sure never will). Any thoughts on that Chris ?
  11. My department has recently purchased 25 Motorola HT 1550 XLS Portable Radios for Fire-Ground use. We have all frequencies that need to be installed, but my vendor is not being much help with the available options for the programmable buttons on the side and front of the radio. He is telling me that there is no documentation available with options on how to program these buttons (6 different ones). This is our 1st round with these radios and I really do not know what they could be used for, but want to make sure that I am not missing something that could be useful. Does anyone have any experience with this radio or similar radios and could tell me any possibilities that we may want to program into these buttons ? Another option would be to KISS and leave them blank....... Any help would be appreciated.
  12. Thanks everyone for the replies. Definitely helpful. The vendor owes us the initial programming which we will give them, but moving forward, we have discussed purchasing the software and cables and handling it in-house. I will probably be the one who handles it, but I am a bit concerned about turning the radio into a paperweight (Bricking ?) if I mess something up. Is programming these something that we could do fairly easily without wiping out our inventory ?
  13. Yes, we have not been happy with their performance. Any idea why it was discontinued ? That is news to me also...... hmmmmmm
  14. Yep That's us..... We are using New England also
  15. What........ No Roto-Ray ????? kidding,,,, SVI is building a Rescue for us also, should be in the queue behind yours. ETD January. They do build a nice Rescue..... We were there for Pre-Con and they definitely know Barry by first name. Heh heh What is your delivery date ? Looks really sharp. Good Luck
  16. Thats similar to the designations for apparatus in Putnam County..... (Dept) - (Type) - (Number) Dept - All Departments have a designated # XX Brewster = 11, Carmel = 12, Lake Carmel = 17, Patterson = 22 and so on. Type - Chief = 1 Engine = 2 Brush = 3 Tanker = 4 Truck = 5 Rescue = 6 Ambulance = 7 Fire Police = 8 In Patterson for example: 22-5-1 is the Truck 22-2-1, 22-2-2, 22-2-3... = Engines 22-6-1 = Rescue 22-4-1, 22-4-2 = Tankers So without intimate knowledge of each departments numbering scheme, you know what you are getting pretty easily.
  17. Another thing to keep in mind....... When the tones go off for a Brush Fire, you may end up in the woods (in their hood) and if there is a fire they probably wont be too happy when you get there anyway. Raking, clearing, just walking......... Keep your eyes open.

  19. Looks like a nice stop by Stamford........ Anyone know where I can get one of those "Buzz Saws" ?
  20. What did he just say ??? Sounds like this ain't Bill's first rodeo........ heh heh As a "Non Photographer", it is interesting to learn of all the different aspects (And expenses, "wow") that go into the Photographic Endeavors of Bill and the rest of the guys that make our viewing all of the different photos on this website such a pleasure. Thanks Guys (& Gals)......... Keep up the good work.
  21. Does anyone currently have in use a Plymovent Vehicle Exhaust System with an overhead receiver for a vertical exhaust (out the top of the rig) setup ? We are having a new Rescue built and opted to go with the vertical exhaust due to the new EPA requirements involving a Re-generator and the temperature of the exhaust while regenerating. If possible I would like to see a picture of the exhaust port on the rig in relation to the receiver to see how much room will need to be clear of antennas etc ... Any info would be appreciated..
  22. We currently use Amkus Tools and are happy with their performance. A few of us went to Fire Expo in Baltimore last year and took a 2 day Extrication Class in which all manufacturers were present and everyone had a chance to use all of them. At the end of the day we still preferred the Amkus System. We actually have a new Rescue being built at present with the Amkus Ultimate System on board and 4 reels. It cuts even quicker than the current Amkus pumps that we have in use. Cant wait. That in addition to a new technology cutter (AMK-22) capable of a cutting force of over 200,000 lbs, and some other new tools, we should be in good shape. I would invite anyone down to take a look, but it wont be delivered till January. I see that a bunch of guys here like the Holmatro, but personally I didn't think compared overall side by side to the others. Hurst was good, but like others said, the weight of the tools is their downfall. I heard that they (Hurst) were putting out a new add-on connector that you put on the end of each tool and line set and it allows for a 1 - hookup connection (similar to Holmatro). Not sure how that worked out for them. Good Luck. I am sure whatever you end up with you will like.
  23. Just does not fit in with the rest of the rigs without the "Mini Wheels"
  24. You mean you weren't referring to my Ripped and Chiseled Washboard Stomach ??? HA ! That was many many many beers ago.....................
