A critical-care EMT from Long Island - who offered $400 to an undercover Post reporter to take his mandatory state-certification exam - was arrested today and faces up to four years in jail for the scam.
Bernard Shore, 65, was charged with criminal solicitation, offering a false instrument for filing and official misconduct, Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice said.
In May Shore, a 10-year volunteer EMT with the Port Washington Fide Department, failed the state exam that all EMTs need to pass every three years to be recertified, Rice said.
He applied to retake the exam on July 18 - but to make sure he passed it, he placed an ad on Craigslist in June seeking a paramedic or EMT-critical care to impersonate him.http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/mandatory_island_critical_state_aLFx7Q6emnFPDxw52LAjCP
If your that stupid then you shouldn't be an EMT!

From the Columbia County 911 Facebook Page:
May he rest in peace
It is with deep sorrow that we acknowledge the untimely death of City of Hudson Firefighter Joseph Maben. Joe died suddenly yesterday while attending activities at the New York State Volunteer Firefighter's Softball Tournament at the Firemen's Home in Hudson. He was just 36 years old. Our sympathies to Joe's family, his many friends, and his brothers and sisters at the Hudson City Fire Department.

I saw a similar unit at NY Chiefs that was for Suffolk County and the price wasn't too bad I think around $100k. it would be great if the heavier populated areas had a county bus for mass transports such as evac's from nursing homes / hospitals or other MCI's

Hudson boat crash: Piermont bride-to-be's body found
The body of a woman believed to be the Piermont bride-to-be involved in Friday night’s horrific boat crash has been recovered from the Hudson River south of the Tappan Zee Bridge, authorities said.
The body authorities believe is Lindsey Stewart, 30, was found at 12:45 p.m., not far from the Tappan Zee Marina in Piermont, said Robert Van Cura, an undersheriff with the Rockland County Sheriff's Office. Stewart was not wearing a life jacket, he said. The Rockland County Medical Examiner was to make a positive identification.
The best man at her wedding, Mark Lennon, remains missing. Two of the six people injured in the boat crash had life jackets on, Van Cura said. He was not sure whether Lennon was wearing one.

FBI arrests Mercy Flight Central pilot in Marcellus on charges of flying uncertified
A pilot who flew helicopters for Mercy Flight Central in the Syracuse area for the past eight months was an impostor, according to federal prosecutors.
He went by the name Alex Coussirat and presented all the certifications he needed to be a pilot, according to Paul Hyland, president of EMS Air Services of NY, which provides Mercy Flight Central its pilots.
He passed the company's background check, which included calling the references he listed, Hyland said.
Unreal! You wouldn't think that would happen in today's world but this guy covered himself for a while but regardless how good you claim to be you still mess up.

As for the vehicles, state bid vehicles are way less than 40K. The fact that they're different from regular marked Tahoes was the pitch to the media to get them interested. Really not that big a deal.
Actually 40K is pretty close, base vehicle about 30k now add lights, sirens, computer and other common things found in police vehicles it would add up close to 40K regardless if state works did the install or not.

Cuomo signs fire-prevention bill named after Marist student
Colleges will now have to notify students whether or not a sprinkler system is present when they move into school-owned housing, according to a new law signed Thursday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The "Kerry Rose Fire Sprinkler Notification Act" requires all colleges to provide written notice to students of their housing unit's fire-safety procedures, along with any fire sprinkler or lack thereof. The law is named after Kerry Rose Fitzsimons, a Marist College student who was killed along with two others in a January 2012 fire at her
off-campus house in the town of Poughkeepsie.

Multi-vehicle crash brings Tappan Zee Bridge to standstillA woman died and four people were taken to area hospitals in serious and critical conditions Tuesday after a multi-vehicle crash on the northbound Tappan Zee Bridge, officials said.
State police in Albany said the accident may have been caused by a wrong-way driver.
The woman, who was driving one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Ray Florida, executive director of Rockland Paramedic Services. A man who was a passenger in the vehicle had to be extricated by emergency workers and taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.
Two other women — one sent to Nyack Hospital and the other to the medical center — and another man, sent to Nyack, also had to be pulled from the wreckage, Florida said.

Yea it is a Mack / E-One, says so in the description
[Look at this 1988 Mack Ladder Fire Truck. It runs great, has a 6L engine and operates on diesel. It has 5600 hours on it and 37,200 miles showing on the odometer. Has an Allision automatic 4 speed transmission. The ladder is EI and it is 85 foot long, the ladder certification expired on 10-12-12. The pump manufacturer is Waterous Model EL and the pump certification expired on 6-15-12. The poly tank holds 300 gallons. The exterior color is red with no cracks in the glass and the interior in fairly good condition. There are 4 intakes. It does come with a generator. -
Lets get this right, GZ called the non emergency line not 911. I / we don't know if that call taker or dispatcher has the same or more training than a 911 dispatcher. As far as I am aware unless it is a certain type of medical call and being a "EMD" trained person they are limited as to what they can direct a civilian to do. As far as saying "We don't need you to do that" in regards to following TM it's a mere advisement and not an order, very similar to your dispatcher "suggesting" to stage for a potentially violent scene. If it was proven that GZ initiated the fight well then I would have felt he held some guilt however he followed the law and acted within the law.
The problem in this country is people have double standards!

If your paying a million dollars for a 75 ladder you must have put every bell & whistle on it.
In my district we have several buildings while only 2 stories in the front they are almost 4 stories in the rear should we have a ladder (most have sprinklers), maybe. We only run 2 - 3 fires a year, most are held to room & contents and we have 6 towers & 2 ladder within 5 - 7 minutes of our district. We don't have the manpower to also run a ladder company and a engine company. We would most likely be calling for mutual aid if we did have a fire in one of those complexes. So why should we spend $750,000 - $1,000,000 for an Ariel?

10 years so little time for the crime, I hope he has to pay restitution also.

It's truly up to the page operators to monitor and control the information displayed on FB. A lot of this is common sense that most people follow. Names and facts are generally not posted until it's in a local paper, but yes you can have an idiot make a comment about it with personal information. This is where the board ops. have to use their heads and remove it ASAP.
Bottom line no one truly "police's' these sites unless an issue arises.
