    Wow. Hits close to home.
I know exactly where West is, and lived aout an hour south of it in Austin. VERY small rural Texas town.
To add to what TXCHIEF said,
For geographical context, People often confuse (and now the media) West (name of the town in Central Texas where this happened), with "West Texas",which is NOT the region where this occured. It's about a 1/2 hour from Fort Hood, 2 hours south of Dallas/Fort Worth, and about an hour 1/2 north of Austin. I-35, which runs from Mexico to the Candian Border, and is a major interstate, runs through West. Many people stop there along the way for the "Czech Stop" a Czech bakery. The town is known most locally for "WestFest", a festival celebrating the towns Czech geritage.
The EMS service and hospital I worked for down there provided EMS to a portion of Mclennan County, and sent numerous resources to this incident. Mclennan Community College has a strong Paramedic program. West has one of the stonger EMS systems in the area. My mom actually works at the hospital where most of the critical patients (several children) were transferred to (Scott and White Level I Trauma Center). Two other hospitals recieving critical patients was Scott And White Hillcrest in a Waco and Parkland Hospital in Dallas, which has a world renowed burn center (the Parkland formula), also known for the hospital JFK was taken to. Seton Brackenridge and St Davis Austin also recieved pts. I have heard that some other hosptials in San Antonio and Fort Hood also recieved pts, but cannot confirm.
On a side note, the "Waco" incident occured on April 19th, 1993. Waco, the largest "city" in the are besides Temple, is home to Baylor University.
    Thoughts and Prayers.

As sick as all this is if you watch the video it is imediatly apparent that this is an intentional terrorist act and instead of everyone running away you see both the professional and citizen rescurers taking immediate action to save lives in the face of extreme danger. It is without a doubt the immediate care on scene by bystanders an the rapid and professional care provided by Boston's EMS system and the excellent hospitals saved lives. Be vigilant.

The was one explosion at the fishing line, the second occurred ifo the Lenox Hotel up the street. There is beleived to be and being reported that two more unexplored devices found and being dismantled - this last bit is not confirmed as if yet but sounding like on the scanners.
Also a friend of mine who was up there at the finish line area is okay and accounted for.

More grist from the ED doc at Phelps: Per him, the BLS cannot do RX, like epi-pen, albuterol and ASA. But they can do plain BLS work. Which is what we all did before the damn medics with their tubes and needles and wires came along.

Not really but you have to remember fire apparatus age doesn't really go by "road miles". We are more concerned with "engine hours of operation". Since all apparatus have some sort of power take off from the engine to operate a ladder's components, a fire pump, or a generator, those engine hours can translate into road miles for the engine and transmission.
For example my old pumper at my vollie house, a 1981 American LaFrance Century 1250 pumper had only 9800 road miles on it when it went out of service in 2006 (25 years of operation). Its engine hours was up over 20,000 and the pump hours of running was about 18,000. So if you do some calculations, basically you have a truck that ran an equivilant of 20,000+ road miles just by figuring in the pump and engine hours. I know this is not the best explination but I hope it somewhat makes sense.

Marcus was involved in a one car motor vehicle accident in Beekman early Sunday morning where he died instantly. From what I have gathered talking to a few of you that were on scene it was horrific and there is nothing in the world anybody can say to take those images away. All I can say is keep your head up and keep moving forward your brothers and sisters in Lake Carmel are thinking about you too and we are here if you need us.
Arrangements are as follows: Thursday 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Cargain Funeral Home, Fowler Ave, Carmel. Fire Dept will be paying their respects to the family at 7pm in uniform. All the time and money wasted putting these in is what's getting to me. It would be nice if the federal government (or any government for that matter) learned to think things through before acting. How could they not see this coming?

Keep getting healthier, and take your time with the restore process, so you do not rush to do the fixes and create immense stress for yourself. We keep checking the site, just in case, and will be there when it comes back on full. Just wish there was some way to donate besides PayPal - unable to do that, but maybe in future......Good luck.
