Ok so it didn't fly in space but's damn important. It was the prototype for all the others...and still continued to serve long after she was a museum piece. After the Columbia disaster, a piece of her wing tile was used as a research aide to help discover the problem.
That being said, the Intrepid has a pretty poor record of maintaining things...I hope they step up to the plate. Anyone who doubts that can look at the airplane collection that has only just recently begun to be stabilized and repaired or the huge amounts of graffitti on the interior of the Concorde. I sure hope the government signed a good contract stipulating the care and if necessary a repossesion clause.

I don't think anyone with a higher class felony should be allowed in any emergency service under any conditions...period. With action comes consequence...many wouldnt be able to get hired as a professional with their convictions..why should it not be the same standard on the volunteer side?

JetPhoto liked a post in a topic by IzzyEng4 in Brush fire destroys Kent fire truck
Here's WTNH's article with a picture of the truck: http://www.wtnh.com/dpp/news/litchfield_cty/kent-fire-department-loses-truck-in-blaze
By what is being told, the truck was driven up to this point and the fire had been moving in the opposite direction. The operator began experiencing some mechanical problems with getting the pump into gear and the wind then shifted pushing the fire towards the truck. They tried to get the truck going but the problems persisted so they had to abandon it. The good thing was no one got hurt.
Me personally, I rather loose a truck than loose a member.

Here's my thoughts, what about police chiefs getting their own cars? What about dpw formen getting their own truck? Plenty of vehicles out there without any markings on them doing whatever they feel. Oh add in their enormous salaries and free gas etc. Do u still see a problem with a volly chief using his car to go food shopping in the next town?
Oh and just to add this in so its not so one sided, I know career chiefs that have a take hone vehicle with lettering that they run errands in. Just saying

Still the same, only its Putnam 911, and if you do not call on the radio in this manner most dispatchers will ignore your transmission. Same for calling on scene. Drives me nuts

It is suggested in Dutchess to call out by using your department name and unit identifier i.e Chelsea 35-11
This is so if people key up and start talking their identification is not all cut off because the repeater system has not open up yet. So if the dispatcher doesn't hear your department name they will at least get your numeric ID, otherwise they may only hear "11" responding. OK who's "11" is responding?
A personal pet peeve of mine is when people key up and say (as an example)
Chelsea 35-11 to 911
911 is on
Chelsea 35-11 responding
Put your message in one statement! If the dispatcher didn't hear you they will ask who's calling or replay the audio.
If the dispatchers are busy, don't expect them to answer you back in .0001 seconds, give them a moment alot goes on in the dispatch center to make sure everything is covered.

JetPhoto liked a post in a topic by SRS131EMTFF in OFFICIAL Japan Earthquake/Tsunami Discussion Thread
In a word, yes but there is a much larger risk of an Earthquake under New York City than a tsunami ever hitting the East Coast. Without going to deep into the geophysics and geology of the issue, the tectonic plate that comprises the entire East Coast and all the US upto California is moving away from its boardering plates. This creates a rift valley (the mid-atlantic trench). The rift valley is fairly stable because that is where the new oceanic crust is formed from the magma bellow. Where this earthquake, creating the tsunami occurred is at a subduction zone, where one plate flows under another. These are significantly less stable, especially in Japan where a heavier oceanic crust is flowing under a lighter continental crust. The rift valley that is forming in the atlantic is where two oceanic crusts with similar densities are splitting apart. Basically, there are significantly different geologic processes occurring in the Atlantic vs. the Pacific. This crustal movement is why we find different types of fossils on different continents, essentially where the land masses are currently is not where they were 100 million years ago, which is not where they were 500 million years ago, which is not where they were 1 billion years ago, which is not where they where 4 billion years ago. While you can not say that it will never happen, the planetary forces that are at work, and have been at work since the dawn of time make it very, very unlikely, but not impossible.
If anyone wants my sources or links or any further info PM me because I really do not want to get too in-depth with the science here because it really is very technical and unless you really do know what is being discussed, it will not make any sense to you and actually confuse you more. The only reason I commented is because this is one aspect of a larger topic my advisor and professors have been studying for 30 years.
