I like Steve's idea. What’s the issue with having one designation for both even if it may have Airport Fire Officer or AFO in front of a four digit number? It is simple to have just one identifier that satisfies each requirement. Occasionally you will hear nontraditional units on 60 Control Channels give agency and identifier (Ex. WCPD Marine 3). I don't see the issue with transmitting with 60 Control as example Airport Fire Officer 2591.
In addition I think for a four digit number you should go for the 2591. If he is considered the chief of the brigade why not go for 2591?

    1) Which is it? In the first paragraph you want labeling for capability and the 2nd you think we should get rid of the best definition we have
    2) In Westchester thats a Utility
    3) In Westchester that is not a Squad (see definition):
A vehicle(s) consisting of at least an Engine with or without other support vehicles (i.e.: Rescue, Ladder, or Utility Type), equipped with additional and specific equipment to handle hazardous materials / WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) and/or technical rescue, that will respond with a minimum of six (6) trained and certified members, included a company officer.
For hazmat and WMD the minimum training level shall be Haz-Mat Technician (as identified under OSHA 1910.120) and the squad shall have the equipment necessary to perform air monitoring, level “A” suit and decontamination.
For technical rescue the minimum training level shall be based on NFPA 1670. All members shall be at the technician level for structural collapse, trench rescue and confined space rescue and at the operations level for rope rescue.
The squad shall have the equipment necessary to initiate a response, safely size up and identify additional resources required to safely mitigate these incidents.

Mount Kisco, what a wonderful new engine. Glad you went with a Fed Q siren on this one. As for Grandma she never missed a step. Nice tradition when approching the station for the first time in a new rig.

A friend of mine passed away a few months ago and his family gave me his collection of photos. There are boxes filled with photos, negatives, slides and manufacturer delivery photos. Going through it and scanning the good stuff I see there is some Westchester stuff. I'm going to put the good quality stuff up in this thread. He did a lot of photo buying/ trading so if there is a photographers name on the slide I will post it along with the image. First up is a 1964 ALF tiller from Hasting on Hudson.....Ron Bogardus photo.

When going for my train rides, I always see this 4 door REP near the Harlem-125th St. MNRR station, about 10 blocks south. Tonight, I got out and huffed it to see if I could get a shot to share on here.
It is a 2012 model F-550, with a four door cab with a body built by Odyssey Auto. Assigned unit # 5778-12 There was no one around to talk to about it when I photographed it, but it appeared in pretty mint condition. It also appeared that all 4 seats are being used (from buttprints). The body is exactly the same as a regular REP, and is of the newest spec.
There could be a thousand reasons why this unit is a 4 door cab....the easiest is to say 4 man REP...but what is the reason? Is it even an REP? Is there more of this style, or are there going to be more? Buffy minds want to know.

Since this is my first day of retirement after 20 years @ 60 let me tell you our protocols. EMS dispatch: no answer dispatch again 3 min later. No answer after 2 more min. dispatch again and dispatch mutual aid. Fire: after initial dispatch if no answer after 5 min. dispatch again. If no answer (and it has happened) dispatch again and dispatch mutual aid. Mutual aid run cards have been set up by both ems and fire agencies for their districts. Barry I understand what your saying if dept. x crashes, but what if I don't send anybody to the call in a TIMELY manor! The cad prompts us on all re-dispatchs. The buck does not stop @ 60 Control. It is up to each department whether volunteer or career to cover your calls. The cad will prompt us for the city of New Rochelle or Bedford EMS in the same manor. We run with NYS DOH protocols for ems and NFPA for fire. If you can't cover your call's start thinking about joining forces with your neighbor who is covering the call! Thanx for all you do and please stay safe!

After 24 years of service to the Independent Fire Company in Mt. Kisco, NY, engine 105, a 1989 Pierce Lance pumper, has gone on to a new home. With the recent purchase of its replacement, we had a decision to be made on what to do with the 1989 Pierce. This discussion goes back to when we first decided to replace the pumper about two years ago. After our annual fire department parade in 2012, a former member who always attends our parades came to our firehouse. The former member, Bob Molhenbrook, was a member of the Independents for 20 years before moving upstate to the Catskills. He brought along the Chief Jason Wayman of his current department, the Town of Broome Volunteer Fire Department, in Livingstonville, NY, and their wives. After speaking with them and talking of the new engine soon to be ordered by us, the talk shifted to the August 2011 hurricane, Irene.
Upon hearing of the devastation and the financial hardships that Hurricane Irene caused to them, we started to think of ways we could help. Not long after, we received a letter from Jason with pictures of the hurricane and its aftermath. In his letter he explained how what little savings they had saved was used up to cover costs that insurance did not cover. Unable to do any fundraising events for some time due to the fact their fundraising hall was destroyed, this would delay their thoughts on replacing their current frontline pumper, a 1980 Saulsbury front mount pumper. After discussion on whether to sell our old engine or possibly donate it to a company in need, a motion was made to sell our engine for $1.00 to the Town of Broom Volunteer Fire Department and it was unanimously passed. Not only was it the right thing to do, it was the only thing to do, in our minds. We know they will get years of service out of it until they can raise enough money to replace it one day. The engine served us well and we hope it continues on for them.
I have attached some pictures of the devastation of Irene in Livingstonville, NY. Also, there are some pictures of the day they came down to pick up their new engine on Saturday, August 10, 2013.

A few years back I was working on the EMS mutual aid plan with 60 Control leadership and the policy as I understood it was they can not call for another dept. for no response unless the original agency authorized it (in writing) before the fact. The reason was based on general municipal law andliability on mutual aid.
If Dept. A requests mutual aid and the dept responding crashes or has building fall on them, etc. the liability is clearly in GML that the requesting dept is responsable for the rig/equipment but the giving dept is responsable for the injury/disability/death.
If 60 control dispatches Dept. X to Dept. A's incident (with no pre-authorization or active request) and dept X crashes, who is responsible Dept A that never made the request or 60control that did.
I do not know if this is still the policy, but it does make sense in light of that legal concerns.
