And NYC's can be used in an MCI so it was a decision by Westchester to limit the uses of the resource.

Right, no loca/regional tax dollars. Just federal tax dollars. So we paid somewhat less for something that may be used once in a decade vs. making minor modifications so it could be used more frequently to support our already strained EMS system.

That was my point exactly in response to an earlier post about it not being local tax money.
Taxes are taxes and waste is waste..

Since when is discussing the lack of standards or a cohesive system "petty bickering"?

The bottom line is that the IC has the authority to request any resources he wants from the next town or the next county if he or she wants to.
Bitching about it here is just that, bitching. It doesn't accomplish anything.
Now I will say that a standard response matrix would benefit the county greatly and is used in many other places successfully. Instead Westchester has individual department run cards and there is no consistency or commonality.
Look at the MCI in Chicago at the airport for the plane with pressurization problems the other day. A level 1 MCI was declared sending a standard package of resources.
What do we have here in Westchester? NOTHING!
Fiefdoms and egos preventing any kind of system development!

Or admin staff going to back to line positions and increasing the level of service provided.
Same number of people, more in the firehouse or on the street!

Even if the primary use is to evacuate hospitals and nursing homes, I see no reasons why they could not also be pressed into service in a MCI for treatment. In the past we have used school buses or transit buses to transport large numbers of people. I am old enough to remember when every U.S. Mail truck was convertible to an Ambulance and all had the "CD" logo on them because they were Civil Defense resources. How is it superior to put an EMT on a school bus than on an METU?

One fire a week is nothing like E82 in the hey-day when the "Bronx was burning".

I'm a huge fan of consolidation of certain services. There are simply too many little kingdoms around here. I'd venture to say that a consolidation that didn't save money, isn't really a consolidation.
You can cut administrative staff, for one. There should be fewer chiefs and some redundant bureaus, such as a detective units, IAB, ect would be trimmed from 2 - 1.
Yup, it means admin staff losing their jobs, hopefully only due to attrition. The only way to save money (real money) is to employ fewer people.

Can we talk about the actual incident, and re-open the METU thread for those who want to continue that discussion?

How many fire departments serve Spring Valley?
Would all of their first due fires be just in Spring Valley?
How about the ones they respond mutual aid to?
How many structure fire (fires involving a building) were there in 2014 in Spring Valley?
How many structure fires, not including relocations or standbys, did Spring Valley respond to under mutual aid?
It's 2015...there should be a better number for 2014 by now, not just "ballpark".

I believe the medical term is EDP...
Perhaps Res24cuE is being sarcastic? Either way, I don't think it's time for the site to come down. It just needs some life breathed back into it and has to be open for some changes.

If they deleted your name even at your own request, you'd probably cry about how they "banned" you. Easier solution. Log out and don't come back.

Then why did you return? Are you seeking some kind of validation through your grammatically inferior posts? For someone that espouses freedom, you have the freedom to leave at any time. Why in the world would you spend so much time on a forum that you despise? It's beyond illogical. You must have something else to do with your time. Take up a new hobby. Why do you need anyone to delete your old posts? You are actively adding new posts to a forum you want nothing to do with.

Or maybe you are the one who's run their course here. If you hate it so much leave the site and quit the whining about it. Get over yourself.

Yet, here you are. Continually signing on the site and posting, and posting, and posting. You have the freedom to avoid coming on here, given your litany of complaints.

Tragedy of this magnitude and people cry because they didn't get to move up to a different fire station.

Based on some of these posts, I can't help but wonder if some of you were dropped on your heads as babies. What is even more concerning is how little some people know, armchair quarterback and jump to conclusions.
I have a fairly good amount of training regarding trains and train emergencies. I have - what I believe - is a wealth of knowledge of the fire service, including resources in this county and around us. I also have responded to and run a handful of incidents involving mass-casualties.
I have never - nor has 99.5% of you - had an incident like this. The people running it did a TOP NOTCH JOB, and the fact that some of you are sitting back, typing away and criticizing any decisions of the Incident Commander or any others at this incident just fortifies why I have little faith that we can ever become better as a county. Some of you posting here are officers, past officers or - God help us - aspiring officers in your respective agencies. As the Maitre D' in Ferris Bueller's Day off said, "I weep for the future."
