  1. In NYS, vehichles that are owned or operated by the municipaliy (city, village, town, hamlet etc etc) are entitled to have "official" tages.
  2. I don't know where to begin. I don't think anyone here or elsewhere is saying forget that day, or suggesting that there were not a multitude of selfless acts that day, or that wounds are easy to heal. What the article, and other people are trying to to point out to those who "can't/won't understand" is that there is more to this trial that it appears. The moment we execute these men esp w/o any semblance of a trial, we give birth to the next ten generations of men like them...they want to die, why let them become martyrs??? Commit them to hard labor somewhere...and make their lives as unpleasant as possible. The whole point of being an American is to say and to live in a way that we do not stoop as low as they do. It does not matter where we try them, we will ALWAYS be a target of hate and for attack. We CAN NOT hunt down and kill every terrorist....so if we are damned, why not be damned and still live up to the way of life that so many are giving their lives for every day!
  3. "1) What sort of additional security thread does this add to an already large target and how will this impact/effect every day life (ie: pulling cops from patrol to deal with moving this guy in and out of the court house, does NY become a fatter target with a personality like khalid sheikh mohammed living in downtown manhattan)?" The papers clearly stated the defendants will be moved via internal tunnels from the detention center to the courthouse, no extra protection or chance of attack in that regard...complain all you want, but get the facts straight. Are you suggesting that the NYPD can not capably assist and supplement the U.S. Marshals?
  4. Thanks for posting the transmissions, Brooklyn dispatch did an excellent job!
  5. Yes, and now what I think alot of us are saying, make the punishment fit the crime in his particular instance. I believe there is a difference between carrying a knife on your person and in your car. I believe there can be intent and no intent. And before anyone says I can't know intent...if the young mans word (a scout is trustworthy) is not enough, make him take a polygraph. That being said...the punishment should be somthing that fits the crime AND does not jeopardize his chances of becoming an officer. Make it in school suspension, removal from extracurriclars, inschool service hours, peer education on violence w/e...
  6. If the rule stands then yes thats the gist of it. This is the same reason we have 1st graders getting expelled for playing cops and robbers and second graders getting supsended for bringing a swiss army knife fork spoon set to school. If you want to make the rule fine, but you have to make the punishment fit the crime. I personally don't think anything should have come from this, but if punishment needs to be done, it should not be same punishment as someone who brought a weapon to school with the intent to harm someone.
  7. I don't recall saying that; I have not personally read the rule, but it would appear he broke it. I was applying the same hypotheticals to the boy's defense as opposed to using them to hang him.
  8. Ok, lets stop debating hypotheticals/philosophies here (what can be used as a weapon, zero tolerance, how dangerous life can be etc etc)...lets go with facts: the knife was not on his person, he admitted it, and he displayed no intent to use it. The young man can display ample reasons to have the knife and is clearly not keeping it for shits and giggles. We can argue about the rule until we're blue in the face. But since everyone insists on arguing on what might have been how about this: A young man of clearly good charachter (as a Scout and a person I was brought up to belive and do believe that being an Eagle scout and a soldier both mean a great deal) is in a bad situation that "may" negatively effect his chances of serving our nation in the respectable and honored way of his chosing/desire. That is just as upsetting as finding a weapon in the classroom. I'm really glad that as a citizen I was protected from a somenone who saved a life, is a leader, and wants to lead other defending my freedom...anyone detect any sarcasm???
  9. I agree, in this day and age, unfortunately we all have to be aware that every action we knowingly take, and even some we don't is now subject to scrutiny by photos on the net etc... bottom line here it seems that this duty might be better served by a fire marshal or code inspector in business professional attire as opposed to an on duty company. As for the pictures, unfortunate that an issue has been brought up, but perhaps it would be best since the firemen are in enforcement capacity that they should not be taking or allowing photographs. A simple "I'm sorry ma'am we're working right now" might have done the trick.
  10. USPP-United States Park Police... thanks any pics would be great, little know agency but some pretty big responsibilities!
  11. Great pictures, looks like a fun opportunity. Any pics from the USPP?
  12. The sniff test on the bottom left of the page is just as funny!
  13. Did anyone else catch the 911 tapes where the caller states that CPR was in progress as per the doctor, but the pt was still in bed?? Anyone care to veture whether there was a hard surface underneat????
  14. LOA for any reason is ok, but if the person comes back and does any sort of work, the LOA is automaitically invalidated and he must return to active duty and fulfill all requirements as before.
  15. Some pcts have their own pumps....
  16. Assuming commutes, (based on seeing the same car parked in the same spot every day) I would much rather see a chief be allowed a small stipend for fuel and a department issued visor ligtbar or decklight. If your concerned about marking, include a magnet as well. The chiefs car should remain at the station, but more importantly in the district; I really don't think the amount of times a chief responds from his work (more than just one or two towns away), stops for an accident on the way home, and anything else that can be thought up as a reason for an officer to have a official vehicle so far from home cannot justify the extra mileage, fuel and wear on the vehicle.
  17. Actually no, just hiked up and down the Palisades trails when I was younger so I was curious if another type might relate better in my mind.
  18. Interesting. Anyone have normal shots to add?
  19. Anyone care to slam the brooklyn jury who aquitted Officer Timoshenko's killer???? Come on guys, twelve folks who made in improper decison does not represent the borough or those living there, and frankly I'm tired of those venting their anger insinuating such.
  20. Two words, CIVIL SUIT; perhaps some comfort will come from that. Now, Dr 104, Steve and anyone else who cares to follow suit... blame the DAs for improperly arguing the case or choosing the wrong charge, blame the folks who got off, hell even blame jury, but hold them responsible as human beings and citizens... please don't dump on my home b/c of the verdict!
  21. Well here it is from the powers that be, my thoughts to those affected by the closures: Mary Immaculate Hospital (H 36) Effective 0001 hours, Tuesday, February 10, 2009 - No longer an authorized 911 ambulance destination for patients requiring PSYCHIATRIC care Effective 0001 hours, Saturday, February 14, 2009 - No longer an authorized 911 ambulance destination - NO PATIENTS shall be transported to this hospital St. John's Queens Hospital (H 39) Effective 0001 hours, Tuesday, February 10, 2009 - No longer an authorized 911 ambulance destination for PEDIATRIC patients. Effective 0001 hours, Saturday, February 14, 2009 - No longer an authorized 911 ambulance destination - NO PATIENTS shall be transported to this hospital
  22. Simple, no money...the same folks own both hospitals (Caritas). Caritas says they're broke and can't run the two hospitals w/o the state aid that was just cancelled.
  23. Kwikpoint has some good tools...
  24. To put together what several people have said here: - NYS part 800 does not make it a requirement to carry Epi auto-injectors. - Similarty NYS does not require an AED - Individual agencies may elect to carry Epi pens if they prove to the state they have a proper training program and protocols in place - Several VACs in NYC have chosen to put that program in place Carrying epi can be be expensive not only as a start up cost ( epi and epi jrs for each truck) there is the constant cost of replacement before expiration In NYC, with decently accessible ALS, close hospitals, and some agencies already carrying, it may very well be sufficient. While I'm sure the numbers are accurate, the councilwoman and the article provide no correlation between the number and any adverse effects to patients. Now, would having EPI on every truck be a plus, abselutely, but especially in times of fiscal crisis is it necessary?
  25. Oh hey your my new partner? Gee I'm sure glad you forgot your gun this morning, and your badge too...
