Great that they are replacing a 39 year old (donated?) engine.
What is sad is that the Great State of New York with a $136.5 BILLION dollar budget needs a grant to replace this engine. It should have been replaced 20 years ago. Shows you how high a priority fire service training is in NYS.

A bigger question is why are 150 children being transported to a hospital for no medical reason?
I spoke with one of the ER directors this evening and he said they did not treat 1 of these children because none had been exposed to anything. But he did say that the care for actual patients in the ER was significantly delayed because resources had to be diverted.
Some one referred to the bus as a MERV, it is not, unlike the Yonkers unit the Westchester unit has not equipment, it along with the other counties did not set these busses up for MCI's. They were set up like giant ambulet to move stretcher and wheelchair persons.

While this isn't a rescue pumper, the difference shouldn't be so dramatic. Tools and all this was 347k from the same manufacturer, it's not fancy but it certainly gets the job done.

    The trip is not free.
Depending on the location of the factory (Airfare, hotel meals, etc.) The costs for flying to mid west for example add approx. $1,000 per person per trip and that is built into the cost of the truck.
The "Dealer does not pay" he fronts the money and you pay as part of the cost of the truck.
So 10 members going on pre-construction, pre-paint and final to Pierce or Seagrave or Ferrara, Smeal, Spartan etc. will cost $30,000 that your tax payers will cover.
Also with that size group, their are almost always more "add-ons"..."Hey look at the spinny light that mildew hose has on their new pumper, we need that too" I have been told by manufacturers that they can easily see $50K - $100K in increase because of it.
We send the spec writer and the mechanic. Unless its driving distance, then we might add a chief.

I have often heard people question the wisdom of sending firefighters into the World Trade Center on Sept. 11th. It is not their fault, these people simply do not understand that firemen do what they do because they must, for without their actions lives would be lost. So much is made of the losses that fateful Tuesday 13 years ago and that is as it should be, but when looking back at that terrible day in New York let us not forget that the sacrifice of the 343 brave FDNY firefighters lost and the actions of their comrades who survived directly saved the lives of over ten thousand people, TEN THOUSAND!!!!. So in the midst of all the sadness and anger that comes with this day let us also remember that those 343 lives were not lost in vain.

I will never forget you, the 343, and all you gave, your sacrifice gave life to thousands, THANK YOU!!

The local or State police agency agency typically handles the investigation. Often the federal agency involved responds to handle a parallel investigation. If the federal agency operator is charged locally with any crime arising out of the accident, the case can be (but usually is not) removed to federal district court.

LOL at Res24cue. You keep proving me wrong that people can't be any dumber.
Law Enforcement Officers are the only thing that keeps order and prevents chaos in our country, regardless of what politicians, media and other groups try to feed us. The most important thing for all of us to do is to avoid sipping the Kool Aid that is fed to us making us think that LEOs are the enemy.
The enemy is ourselves and our thought process that we can be and are above the law. If we eliminate the laws that govern us and protect us, I will gladly pick up my family and move somewhere that has them, enforces them and protects my family.
I hate how our country is going down the toilet, and how so many people try to justify their illegal actions.
