Yonkers FD has its Foam Unit housed at Station 13 and is run as part of YFD's Special Operations Department, supported by the crew of Engine 313 and Ladder 73. YFD has used this apparatus on a few occasions over the years.
Mount Vernon FD's Foam Unit, I believe, hasn't existed in years. When it was "last in service" FDMV was running it, using a converted 1967 Mack C Rig (Former Engine 6), until FDMV disbanded its Foam Unit. There was 1 attempt of reviving the FDMV Foam Rig, when they obtained the Old Westchester County Airport Fire Rig (See Photo), but sadly, that rig sat in the back of Station 2, rusting, for a number of years (I don't think it is still back there), rather than fixing it back up and having it as their Foam Unit (You would think, with all of the businesses down in the Old "Oil City" area of Mount Vernon, there would be a need for such a rig.
Surprised that White Plains FD gave their Foam Unit back to the County DES. (Maybe someone in the know can clarify why White Plains FD gave it back to the County?)

Can anyone recollect (and some may have to go back some 40 to 50 years in Westchester County) if a patient had to be transported to an Emergency Room in Westchester County either inside of a Rescue Rig or on a backboard on top of the hose bed on a Pumper Truck, because a BLS or ALS Ambulance Rig (and going back to the 'Old Days" just a plain old Ambulance) was not available for transport? (Back in 1963, I had to be transported inside of the Old Yonkers Rescue 1 Mack Rig due to an Bycycle/Auto Accident, to Lawrence Hospital, because all of the Yonkers City/Hospital Ambulances and the Old Lawrence Hospital Ambulances were all unavailable, due to being tied up on other runs
Does anyone have any recollection of other incidents that required transportation to an ER on a Fire Rig?

Heard from within YFD that the replacement for TL 71, will be a Ferrara TL, but does anyone know the latest status on the delivery of the 2 Ferrara Ultra Pumpers to replace current Engine 303 and 313 American LaFrance rigs? (The original projection was that they would be in Yonkers by early 4th Quarter 2014).
Any and all updates is greatly appreciated !!!

Can you say "CONSOLIDATED COUNTYWIDE FIRE and EMS SERVICES" ? (and get rid of that ridiculous HOME RULE that is in place within New York State)

Outstanding job, so far, Stepjam !!! Taking on Kitbashing Yonkers Tiller Ladder 73 is certainly one of your more challenging efforts indeed (For those who may not remember, ALF delivered identical rigs to Yonkers as Ladder 71, 73, and 74). A red repainted version of this rig ended up as Ladder 70, before being put out to pasture.
Would love to see you Kitbash the Old Yonkers FD Mack B Rescue Truck !!!
Keep posting those updated photos on this project and keep up the great work !

When Will The Westchester 2000 Plan Be Implemented To Form A Westchester County Fire Department And Avoid Duplication Of Services, Too Many Officer Positions And Outrageous Fire Department Budgets ????

Like every City, Town and Village in the surrounding area of Eastchester, EFD has over the past 20+ years has cut apparatus. Engine 28 used to run full time out of Station 2 in Tuckahoe (Engine 28 is now a Spare Engine) and Rescue 5 used to run full time out of Station 3 in Bronxville, but has been gone for a number of years now. You had a building falling apart up at the North End, which took a very long time to repair. Tower Ladder 17 has, like the flyer said, been out of service, more than it has been in service. They (EFD) are running on a Spare Ladder (Ladder 15) which has issues of its own. And yes, Eastchester FD still runs as a "Combination Department" (Professional and Volunteer).
    Should be an interesting meeting

Yes, any YFD Apparatus photos from the 1960's and early 1970's would be outstanding, if anyone can post

This is YFD Station 8, late 50's and early 60's. Eng 8's rig was later used as Rescue 1 between the old 1937 American LaFrance and early 60's Mack.

With New Rochelle FD anticipating putting their New Engine 23 in service in the next couple of weeks, keep an eye out in the early Summer of 2014 for the Yonkers FD to take delivery of 2 new 1000 GPM Pumpers (Replacements of Engine 303 [2006 ALF] and Engine 313 [2003 ALF] (The Bid Specification says either it be a Seagrave Attacker, Ferrera Ultra or "Similar" Cab). Bid Opening was on May 8, 2013, so one would anticipate delivery in or around June.
Also, Bid Opening was announced on February 26, 2014 for the replacement of Tower Ladder 71 (2008 ALF/LTI). One would anticipate a March 2015 delivery for this rig (will be interesting who ends up being the lowest bid Tower Ladder for this one, as YFD has only had either MACK CF/Baker or ALF/LTI Tower Ladders in the history of the department.

With the current Mutual Aid Plan in place, there is really nothing much any specific department can do, other than request that they (the responding Mutual Aid Department) be placed at the bottom of the list, for response. All this would do, would be to have those departments at the top of the responding list, having to travel from greater distances, for any/all Mutual Aid needs. (Imagine if Yonkers and the other departments hadn't responded as part of the mutual aid agreement, that person may have died).
Sadly, politicians (like the Mayor of Mount Vernon) use the Mutual Aid agreement as a way to get out of budgeting for more manpower and apparatus. Taxpayers in Mount Vernon are basically caught between a rock and a hard place. On one side, they want their property and personal well being protected by the FDMV. On the other side, they don't want to press the Mount Vernon Mayor for the additional manpower/apparatus that the city needs to "Properly" protect the lives and property of the citizens of the City of Mount Vernon, in fear that their taxes would be raised to pay for this.
Again, I go back to the concept of having a County Run "Regionalized" Fire Service. But, the "Home Rule" currently in place in the State of New York, is a major stumbling block from allow this concept to move forward.
