So many calls, one of the few that did not involve someones loss of property, life or severe injury... In 1994, I had the pleasure of being part of crew that delivered a healthy baby boy in their house. I still remember going back out to the bus to get the stretcher when the Mount Pleasant PD officer on scene told his dispatch "A healthy baby boy was just delivered, I need the official time." The dispatcher responded "0113 hours". At that point the officer looked up, it was also his shield number.

For the NYPD we have POPPA (Police Officers Providing Peer Assistance) that is staffed by NYPD members and will help all ranks with personal and professional problems. It is separate from the job, but has its support, and the support of the City Council. Of course its use is not mandated (it is confidential, supposedly), but the job does have its Pysch Services, and if you get sent there by the job, it is not voluntary. They often do alcohol counseling, domestic violence classes, etc. POPPA usually visit every command (every tour) at least once a year, and every so often they will make appearances at the range to let the members know it is still available. In addition, EVERY member's locker has a sticker about 5"x8" with a list of different groups that can provide support for numerous problems that members may face. We just got a few new posters in my command on this topic. I will try to get a photo tonight when I go in.

Make a complaint to that cities Human Resources Department. If he is a CFR or EMT, make a complaint as well to the State Dept of Health. Affirmative Action may have gotten him his job, it does not give him the right to act like a boob.

got a few of the graphics today for approval, the ribbons are for our Assistant Chief Jason Whaley, 36 who passed away early this year from cancer, Jill Caldarelli, 55 life member of both the fire company and rescue squad and was a current board of director member and Randy Ackerman, 57, life member was a current board member and past President and brother of Jill Caldarelli, they both passed away over the last few months. It's been a tough year for a small department like ours and as the truck committee chairperson and past Chief I wanted to ensure that the three members that passed during the construction of the new engine were not forgotten. Also a graphic logo I designed to honor all of our members that have passed away prior. The graphics were done by RJ Marx from Appleton, WI., they did the blue beast above as well.

Just wondering how many of our members have a classic vehicle or a unique vehicle, I have three so I'll start off the topic with a few photos of them. 1954 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday Coupe with 70k original miles, total numbers matching vehicle with a 324 motor and hydramatic tranny that was built in New Jersey and sold to a couple in the Bronx, I am the third owner. 1965 Chrysler Newport with a 383 4 barrell and dual exhaust, also numbers matching and 50k original miles, car came from Alabama and a 1972 Oldsmobile 442 convertible with 33k original miles and numbers matching that had a total frame off restoration completed in 2011, these are my retirement projects, I love old cars, on the look out for an old truck to work on as well

Affirmative action refers to policies that take factors including "race, color, religion, sex, or national origin" into consideration in order to benefit an underrepresented group "in areas of employment, education, and business".
By no means does this scenario have anything to do with affirmative action, this is a violation of the oath this individual took when he raised his right hand and swore to faithfully discharge his duties. This type of behavior within in the department is just like a cancer in the body, not treated aggressively, they both will have the same results.

Since when did affirmative action dictate patient care. I thought it had to do with hiring practices. He took an oath to protect and serve and if he can't get beyond his racist attitude he is in the wrong profession.

Again... Training Training Training. I jhave seen Engine Co as long as a tanker many times. But thats not really the issue. A dept who operates Tankers needs to have assigned Engineers to them period. Take a driving course if availible learn how it feels empty, full and half full. Learn the braking distance and even proper accleration. Very Very important is slow and steady turning. If the Tanker has a Jake Brake use it. Be careful in rainy or snow conditions. Also off road conditions like down hill or a slope with a turn. Can you safely make this turn with out flipping? A tanker is only as big as the design from the dept. Lower the tank the better. You do not want a short stubby tanker thats a whole other issue. The tanker i drove was 37ft long. Thats only 4ft longer than most engine co. The operator also needs to be tested for air brakes and tanker. Its no different than asking a F/F to drive a tiller or eng. If he or she has never or very little drive time you are asking for trouble. Training!!

For years, I've been toying with the idea of creating a logo or patch for the site. I put it out to the members a few months ago, and we have a winner.

Paul R. Gerardi, "LTFIREPRG" (retired Deputy Chief Fairview FD), came up with this amazing design for the site, almost instantaneously. I feel it really reflects the theme of this site, and carries the "Work Together Win Together" message. The details take into account what this site is for, who it is for, and ties it all together. There are a lot of little subtle details that make it even more awesome.

I thank him so much for making this dream that I've had over the years and making it a reality. And I never knew talented artist was one of his many, many skillsets! He is a generous and frequent donor to the site, and this contribution to the site is just another way he has helped to make this site better. Thanks Chief for everything you've done for this site, for this, and for me.

As soon as I get enough funding, this design will become a patch and a decal, most likely this fall (unless someone wants to sponsor the production of this patch or decal)

    So here it is:

Trust me, people feel that it's ok to pull up to a marked car and talk and text so they aren't going to be on the lookout for unmarked cars.
These cars are purchased from the state contract and the prices to the PD are not as costly as it is to the general public.
Even if they are a few inches higher, they are patrol vehicles and will be used for other purposes, not just traffic enforcement. The NYSP is always obtaining new vehicles and these will just be a little higher.
The increased summons revenue will help pay for many of these vehicle.
Lastly, if this idea is one of the dumbest thing you've heard since being on this site then you obviously don't read some of the posts that carefully.
