What Do You Monitor?

27 posts in this topic

Lately, I seem to be getting back into listening to my scanner, mostly while I'm browsing the internet. These are what I monitor primarily, as I don't like too many channels going on in my scanner. I am just wondering whats in everybody elses primary banks?

I monitor the following frquencies regularly:

1. 60 Control and associated departments

2. Yonkers Fire

3. White Plains Fire

4. Ardsley and Elmsford Fire

5. Eastchester FD and EMS.

There are a couple more I want to add, like Scarsdale, New Rochelle, and Mount Vernons FDs.

I miss being able to monitor Greenburgh Police. I grew up listening to that frequency, only to have them go digital several years back. Always a fun channel to monitor what's going on in my hometown. Will hafta get a digital scanner one of these days.

I'm also curious to see how scanning life will change once the county's new system goes online.

And some of us thought after you creating this site that you were one of the biggest buffs out there. Now what kind of buff that can afford to buy a house doesn't have a Digital Scanner. LOL :P

I have the primary 60-Control channels, including the newest one i found, which is 460.1625 I think. I have Westchester County EMS frequencies, STAT flight dispatch, FDNY all main frequencies, just about every Westchester County frequency listed that I've found, including fireground. Also, one of my channels thats programmed in which is also set as my primary is Elsmford FD as I'm a jr with them.

i am lucky enough to have a discone on my roof so i scan bedford pd, westchester (60 control and such), yonkers, new ro, mt vernon, FDNY bronx and city wide on one (yes i get that from bedfrod hills) and if a good job is anounced on city wide, i hit bank 8 and i scan the rest of the city. then when there is nothing going on, i hit dutchess and putnam and once in a while i will turn on 5 which is my CT bank (norwalk, fairfield, new canain, ridge field, blablabla)

City of Middletown PD

Town of Wallkill PD

Of course, my POS hand-held doesn't pick up much of anything besides dispatches. Guess it's time for a new one.

For me being in Wester New Haven County I teld to listen locally plsu on good days I can pick up some other towns

IN CT - Ansonia, Derby, Shelton, Seymour, Woodbridge, Oxford, Stratford, Sikorsky Fire, Metro Bridgeport, Metro New Haven, Metro Waterbury (can't actually listen to Waterbuty since on a multinet LTR system that no scanner can track) LCD, Southern Fairfield county on good days, Hartford simulcast on a good day.

In NY I can pick up Suffolk county no problem and some towns there are better in reception than local CT towns. For example Dix Hill FD is on the same freq. 154.1600 as Hamden, CT FD but Dix Hills comes in much better even though hamden transmitter is less than 10 miles away from me and Dix Hills is farther, talk about better line of sight. I can some time s pick up Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess County on the low bands and I get FDNY boros except SI ok.

When I am at work i like listening to feeds on the internet. I have just found a feed for Nassau County, www.w2lie.net, that streams Nassau Firecom as well as most of the other locallly dispatched departments. At home due to location I can ususally only get Putnam and Northern Westchester frequencies.

In addition to the regular high band and 800 mHz radio channels we also have a scanner on the truck with banks dedicated to Greenwich PD/EMS, Connecticut State Police, and MTA Police. We then activate additional banks with DPW, Westchester County, Stamford, CT etc. as needed.

I have 3 scanners 1 in my dining room which is on 24/7, one in my room which is on from when I go to bed until I wake up in the morning and 1 hand held which I use when someone has a call that is nearby that I can see from a distance and be out of the way and listen to what is going on.

I scan:

Bedford PD

60 Control 46.26

All other county firegrounds

New York State Police

Mount Kisco PD

Westchester PD

Town of Bedford Highway

And also a frequency that you get 60 control, very little down county like Rye, And you also hear apparatus call in 10-17 and some other things that you don't normally hear on 46.26. The frequency is 460.2375 If anyone knows what this frequency is could you respond.

Thanks

I've narrowed it down quite a bit over time at home to just listening to the Croton PD. If I am bored or know of something going on, I turn on that channel accordingly.

In the car, I have a uhf mobile. It is on scan most of the time with the following...

46.26 (A couple of different repeaters)

Croton FD Ops

Cortlandt VAC

Ossining VAC

Peekskill VAC

Peekskill FD

Fireground 6 (Montrose FD primary)

Briarcliff FD Ops

There's others in the radio but they aren't programmed into the scan bank.
