Presidential Debate

26 posts in this topic

Just wondering what the thoughts were on tonight's debate. I feel McCain dominated the debate with his clear and decisive answers. Obama seemed a bit nervous and was not clear as to his agenda. I would, however liked to have seen the topic of immigration debated which is adding to our draining economy but hopefully it will be in a future debate.

I actually haven't seen them yet, waiting for the 2am re-run on FOX. Working nights messes up the TV scheduale :)

I dunno these debates all sound the same. Regardless of who I support, the person who has a right answer for every question makes them sound a little to rehersted.

The debates are absolute bs, they are regulated by an organization run by only republicans and democrats. Thats why you never see any "third party" candidates at any presidential debate. I'd like to see some candidates from other parties brought to the table.

Both candidates came off as very bland and it was obvious both were telling the world what they thought they wanted to hear. Typical politicians. Boy is this country in trouble.

My thoughts exactly.

Lets see a debate with Ron Paul next time.

Wow. Were you watching the same debate as I was?

Agree with you there. McCain needs to stop laughing about stuff, this ain't a joke. He also stammered alot. Obama needs to stop saying he agrees with McCain in opening a rebuttal - I don't want to hear what you agree on, but how you differ. I think he was a bit more calm and collected in his responses. And yeah, I would like to see some outside views on things from other candidates. I will likely spend half the day researching some of the information stated by both candidates. "Facts" states often are a bit askew.

As expected no revelations or real substance as far as I was concerned. If anything the debate just cemented or should I say re-cemented my choice as to who to vote for. Alot broad generalizations and very little specifics.....these giuys don't want to get pinned down an anything, but I must say it is Obama who is far more afraid of being tagged by his statements and plans.

While there was no clear winner on substance, to me Obama is a much better speaker..but no suprise there he wants to "talk" his way out of every mess we're in. So in the end barring some major shift or revelation my vote remains the same.

We have a perfect term in Scotland for a no-score draw: "no brains each". Wasn't vastly impressed with either candidate. Didn't change my opinions on either of them. I thought Biden spoke and made his points far better than either of them, in his post-debate remarks.

My wife (who doesn't like or trust Obama any more than I do), however, thought McCain eviscerated Obama: not so much with anything resembling a knockout punch, but in overall competence. She also saw the Biden remarks and said "what are the Dems thinking of? HE should be the candidate, Obama isn't ready for this... and if you want to see evisceration, watch Biden vs. Hockey Mom, he'll tear her apart and stomp on the pieces, then he'll get nasty..."

mccain housed obama. period, end of discussion.

Obama is a radical left wing socialist who wants to tax us and then give our hard earned money to people who don't pay income tax. That's his "economic plan," i encourage anyone to do the research. Don't let anyone fool you about this economic crisis - this is the full work of democrats under Clinton. Back in 98/99/00 they were encouraging people that made 50 grand a year to buy houses worth 500 and 600 thousand - clearly well out of their means. Just so happened that this bubble burst under Bush - again not his fault because the roots go back 10 or so years Not to mention, if Obama gets elected well be dodging car bombs in the street because of his total lack of backbone - it will be Clinton's visa express all over again (if you don't know what that is - it was a Clinton program to expedite the visa process for foreigners and subsequently the majority of 9/11 terrorists slipped in this way).

no obama, no socialism, no retreat.

Obama rebutted with the exact same line of BS each time McCain attacked his track record and liberal viewpoints.

"It's hard to see across the isle from that far to the left" - Instant Classic

After the debate McCain flew back to Washington to work on the bailout package, Obama flew to North Carolina to continue whoring himself out to rednecks. Who has the best interest of their country in mind?

Hey, that's the program that got ME into the country... bro.

(fact check: the changes that were made to the program to expedite it were nothing to do with security or background checking, they just straightened out some of the BS paperwork. And the hoops you jumped through to get a visa were STILL a major PITA)

Neither canidate is ever going to undo the damage that Bush has done to this country. I don't see a hero coming out of this election, and all one can have is hope that whoever is elected can slow the destruction Bush's impact will continue to have.

McCain would be the oldest president ever elected. He has health problems, and it scares the daylights out of me to think that Palin could potentially become the President of this Country. She's an idiot, plain and simple.

Obama has the power to inspire, to rally. He has a strong VP to back him up, and is more "in touch" with the generations that will have to live with the decisions he makes. I feel that's something the Federal Goverment needs right now.

Check your facts. They didn't straighten jack out. They made it unreasonably easy to gain access into this country and we paid dearly for it. You could obtain and apply a visa from a TRAVEL AGENCY rather than going to an embassy.

Joe Biden a strong VP? Are you out of your f*cking mind?! Hes the most anti-American wind bag on capitol hill - right up there with Kennedy. Both of them, Obama and Biden are all talk and no substance. Like i said from the get go - if your about getting taxed and having your money go to people who dont pay income tax and if your about a weak national security policy and even worse yet, if your about trying to run a war from Washington and lashing the hands of our soldiers, sailors airmen and marines so much so they can no longer properly do their job (ill refer you to Soul Survivor - very great read) then Obama is the one for you.

And what about the damage that Congress has done under Democratic control particulary under the evil Nancy Pelosi. It takes two. Can't blame Bush for everything.

Just liberal scapegoating to divert attention from their own failures. And for all their hot air, remember that GWB has one of, if not the lowest approval rating for a sitting President and the Dems stiil can't run away with the election...that's because millions are not swayed by their blustering and finger pointing.

I don't think the debate did anything for anyone. Both sides claim a victory, how predictable. I figure neither walked away with any more votes than they started with. Look for more of the same in upcoming debates. All fluff, nothing to sink your teeth into.

As for leadership? Right now, we've got a lot of men and women downrange. It doesn't look like that will change soon under anyone's plan and new threats will keep us on our toes. For this reason alone, I'd rather have a man who understands war, intimately, and while being militarily aggressive in nature by comparison, is tempered by his own POW experience. John McCain will protect our country while protecting our soldiers. Obama, will fail to do either as he panders to the peaceniks on the right and cuts our military, all the while raising our taxes to ensure illegal immigrants get a managed healthcare plan!

Most elections are about picking the lesser of two evils. This one is about not picking the lone 'evil' candidate. If you really listened and watched the body language during the debate I am not sure how anyone can remotely suggest that Nobama looked any more than humbled at the end. Yes it would have been nice to have them state facts and touch on every subject, but, there are time constraints and there will be more debates. And they want to get their point accross as best as possible-both sides. The lack of respect Nobama displayed toward McCain speaks volumes. Nobama was so rattled that several times he couldn't even remember whom he was debating. Quite honestly I think Sen. McCain won Nobama's vote at the end. I am not a huge McCain fan but you have to give credit where credit is do. That was over three decades of experience speaking. The man is wealthy, had an incredible life and is 72. This begs the question....why run? I think its simple-the man is as patriotic as they come and doesn't want to see our country turned over to this mutt and democrats so that they can take even more of our hard earned money and give it to other mutts as well as preserving our nation from a national security standpoint.

The Palin Bidden debate will interesting. My prediction is Bidden will start out as a gentleman and then blow a fuse and lose it continuing to make a jackarse out of himself-he can't help it

Let's face it.

If you backed McCain before the debate, you naturally believe he 'won'.

If you backed Obama before the debate, you naturally believe he 'won'.

Seth - are you out of your f****** mind!?

Why ask such a question. He has his opinions and I believe he is entitled to it without being asked if he is out of his mind even if I or anyone else disagrees with him.

They are all a bunch of crooks in my opinion. We should be paying more attention to the third party candidates. I think they tend to be more honest and patriotic then mainstream candidates who are mostly professional polliticans.
