I am a retired fire captain from a small city in Eastern Ct. (Norwich). I have been a buff since about 1968. My father was a Firefighter in Bridgeport, Ct so I guess it was just in the blood. I enjoy buffing large citys espically FDNY and Providence, RI. Also interested in Police and EMS. I enjoy reading the various threads and viewing the pictures put on this site. Thank You.

Hello all.

My name is Mark. Im currently a FF and Commissioner in Marlboro, located in Ulster County. I have been a voluteer FF since high school, where I was with a large volunteer dept in Northern Westchester. I am now back in the Fire Service in Marlboro. I have been a FF for 5 years here, and was voted in as a commissioner last Dec.

Marlboro is a small community located just above Orange County, bordering the Hudson. We dont get a ton of calls (less than 200 last year), but we have good turnouts to drills, calls and social events. As for our dept, we have 4 pumpers, 1 rescue truck, and 3 chiefs cars. We have the typical mix of calls for a small dept in our area.

I am looking to get help with advancing my dept so we can provide even better service to our townspeople, going from a good dept to an even better one. We are in the process of buying a new pumper, and making several changes to improve our service.

Thanks!

Hi all

While not a EMT or FF, I am a former NYPD A/Sgt as well as a Former Aux. Coast Guard Staff Officer and still enjoy listening to my Scanner. I find this site to fill in what I miss. I've been at the scene of many fires both on land and in the water as well as numerous car accidents, shootings, stabbing ect. Its nice to just sit back and read about it and my deepest praise for those of you who run into burning buildings or save lives. For you I give my heartfelt thanks.

I'm Mike. I have had the honor of riding a Yonkers TAC unit with Seth. I am now riding as a Heavy Rescue Technician/Vehicle Extrication Specialist for Ridgefield Park Heavy Rescue in Bergen County, NJ. I have been an EMT for almost 12 years and the Heavy Rescue Squad assists our ambulance corp from time to time. Married, two kids, son of a NYC-TPD officer before they got consolidated. It's all a big numbers game.

Hello,

I am a college student from Rye NY current at school in Florida. I got my EMT at Greenwich EMS over the summer and got reciprocity in NY a few weeks ago. I'm going to school for aviation but I've always been interested in EMS. Hopefully over the summer I will be able to volunteer back home somewhere. Great Forum, I hope to be able to contribute soon in the future!

Hi everyone,

Allow me to finally introduce myself. My full screen name is Ga-Lin Yar as in Qui-Gon Jinn, it is my "Jedi" name. I sometimes feel I am one of the last of the Jedi, having been trained a long time ago in a place far away. Well maybe Queens isn't quite that far. I became interested in EMS while doing my community service project for boy scouts at my local VAC. At that time there were no youth squads but I was able to join at the tender age of 16 as a dispatcher, the corps self dispatched. A year later I was allowed to ride as an asst ambulance attendant. I took my first EMT course at LIJ Hospital (all 40 Hrs of it) the following year at 18. That was 1972, don't laugh it was a very good year. At that time NYS was not yet issuing numbers with our cards. Some weren't even sure what to call this new thing (it was not yet considered a job much less a career or profession) my Nys VAFAA, District 4 patch states "Medical Emergency Technician".

After serving 4 years USN, corpsman I came home & began working for a commercial service. I became a medic in 1978. The program cost was $100.00 plus books, but my employer at the time paid half the tuition so I was out 50 bucks! Two years later I completed my Instructor Coordinator cert & I have been working, teaching & occasionally volunteering in the greater metropolitan & Hudson Valley every since.

I've witnessed many changes over the years. EMT courses are no longer 40 hrs & 50 bucks might get you one of the smaller textbooks in the current medic programs. I have no excuse for not joining these forums sooner & I'm truly sorry. In reading through the comments I've missed out on a lot. In any event I will attempt to be an active participant & contribute what little I can to the general buzz. Thanks for putting up with the long winded intro.

One last thing for those who are interested, I'm an advice hiker & also a minor history buff and & Ga-Lin (Galen) was a physician back during the early Roman empire. I'm not a physician & although Galen was supposedly ahead of his time I would match my medical skills. For those who are also fellow Sci-FY buffs Yar is Tasha Yar from Star-Trek the next generation (She was killed off early in the series) That's enough for now, thanks & we'll be talking to ya.

Greetings all,

I have been visiting EMTBravo for a few years and have enjoyed reading all the post and learning from the brothers up north. My name is Steve and I am a career Battalion Chief in Albemarle County, VA. I am currently the Shift Commander for B Shift; yes, I am a "B-Shifter"! I am also a Life Member of the Lake Monticello Fire Department in Fluvanna County Va. Every year I make the trip to the Andy Fredricks Seminar in Elmsford. We always have a great time and the hospitality from the brothers is outstanding. We will be heading north again in February and I'm am looking forward to the trip.

I have been in Fire and EMS for 33 years, and had the opportunity to spend 12 years on an airmedical helicopter crew, which was a great time in my career. In my off time I am a part-time musician, play golf poorly and enjoy spending time with my wife and 3 kids. I also just bought my first boat. It is true: boat stand for BREAK OUT ANOTHER THOUSAND!

Looking forward to getting to know some of you on the board. Stay safe brothers.
