Ive been a member of this site for a long time now. In the past, there have been posts made by Chief Flynn that have gotten under my skin.
However and maybe its because ive grown up a bit, ive come to realize that he has opinions and is certainly entitled to them as is anyone else.
Chief Flynn has worked his way up the ladder of a very busy, pro-active and versatile career fire department. For that, i have nothing but respect for the man, as he has certainly earned it.
Chief Flynn is obviously a very intelligent man who has so much fire service knowledge and experience to share. For that, i have always enjoyed reading his posts as they are well thought out and written.
Maybe Chief Flynn indeed dislikes volunteer firefighters or the volunteer fire service as a whole, but you know what...who cares? Again, he is entitled to his opinions. Personally, i could care less who likes who and who doesn't.
Many of his posts and comments aimed at the volunteer fire service have merit. I guess maybe for some people the truth hurts.
Personally, i enjoy being a volunteer firefighter and helping the community (sorry if that sounds cliche). I have always tried to be the best firefighter i can be by taking as many courses as possible, training as much as possible and treating every day as a learning experience.
People need to worry about themselves and how they can be a better person, firefighter, etc and improve themselves and their agencies.
That said, stay safe and oh yeah, QTIP.
Now lets get back to the original topic at hand please.

I don't think the Chief hates anybody "spin the wheel." TRUE firefighters are not haters. We respond and work to help people no matter their color, creed, whatever.
Maybe, just maybe there is a genuine concern that fire/emergency protection and response is sorely lacking in areas of Westchester County, and it is being pointed out by many more than just the person you called out.
We all know it. It's not just in volunteer protected areas. Many career/combo departments are not getting the manpower out adequately.
Thus the call for consolidation which is largely ignored, something the chief and others here have been passionately trying to bring to the attention of the public, the media, the politicians for a very long time.
Now you're out on the island, and we all know the volunteer departments out there are chock full of career firefighters from......other places nearby.
    Whole different animal.
Walk a mile in the shoes of the firefighters in Westchester, who regardless of type of department are still responding daily without adequate staffing, then come back and see how you think about these issues at hand.

That's a great idea to hear from a Somers member.
However, I didn't post about this particular incident, I was only speaking in general terms about CO calls.

I know that Bro, I worked my career up there. By now, all truck companies should carry CO meters. Since ventilation is part of their game, I'd think it would be more appropriate to have them responding on these CO calls.
Now there's two type of CO calls; the ones where like Mike pointed out, you get a defective CO alarm and many times a repeat activation.
However, I've been to jobs where it was a legit CO release within the structure, with victims affected by CO inhalation, etc. This is where the truck should be responding.
Especially those departments who practice positive pressure ventilation (which I personally don't believe in for fire attack). These PPV fans are perfect for CO venting.
    Once again, just my opinion.
    Stay safe.

Potential is increasing for widespread damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes from central New England south to the New York/New Jersey metro areas to the DelMarVa region. Shouldn't the more appropriate dispatch for a CO call be:
    1. Supervisor
    2. EMS
    3. A Truck Company
If evaluating, treating, transporting victims, locating and eliminating the CO source, then ventilation are your priorities, I would prefer a truck company for ventilation as opposed to an engine company.
    Just my opinion.

On Saturday, September 22, the New York City Fire Museum will present “Fire Museum Family Day,” featuring an antique hand-pumped fire engine muster -- teams from all over the northeast will compete to pump the furthest stream of water from their engines. With the help of Fire Department mascot “Hot Dog,” the FDNY Fire Safety Unit will be distributing fire safety materials to the public, and fire fighters will be conducting kids’ fire safety tours in the Museum’s apartment simulation. In conjunction with National Preparedness Month, the Office of Emergency
Management and FDNY instructors will be conducting Fire Extinguisher Participatory Demonstrations where individuals will learn how to use a real fire extinguisher to put out a live fire. OEM will also be distributing important emergency preparedness information for kids and adults. Inside the Museum, there will be special exhibits of fire memorabilia from area collectors and historical organizations.
The Museum is located in Hudson Square, west of SoHo. Spring Street will be closed between Hudson and Varick Streets from 10 AM to 5 PM. All outdoor activities are free and open to the public and will take place rain or shine. The antique fire-engine muster, presented by the New England States Veteran Fireman's League, will be pumping from 12 until 4 PM. The Fire Museum will be open for visitors; admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children, seniors and college students with ID.

It is sad what is happening at the site. Let's not forget the fact that the general public will usually act with ignorance, unless there is somebody there to guide them in their actions.
Idea: What about forming a "task force" of sorts. Let it be comprised of retired MOS, particularly those who worked 9/11 and the aftermath, and other MOS who have lost family members there. I'm willing to bet there'd be no shortage of volunteers for the job.
Let them form a constant presence at the site; in Class A's. Their function would be to gently remind people to maintain a respectful decorum, and they could also talk with people who are visiting; tell the people about 9/11, what the MOS did that day, and the sacrifices that were made.
I think they have retired sailors on some ship museums who do this exact thing.
Just the presence of MOS in Class A's, standing gently at attention at various spots within the Memorial, would make a world of difference in my opinion.

    Seth,
I don't know what to say. I want to hit the rep button but it says "like." There's nothing to like about what you have been going through. It's kind of stunning to read all of this. I'm very sorry to read that you've been through so much pain and freakin agony.
You're going to be on my mind and in my prayers.
Never give up Brother. You'll have a lot of support going forward.

You know, I looked at the tag Seth put on his post; "Haters are my motivators." Had to think about that one for a while. Then I remembered something. A Facebook Group. "I Hate EMTBravo." Had to look and saw the page had 169 "likes."
I wonder how those people feel now. If they feel anything at all that is.
I wonder what motivates people to hate. You think those people who took a Facebook page and turned it into a page of hate, you think that didn't hurt Seth? For the "sin" of having created a space for all of us to convene and talk about the jobs we have/had?
There should be no room in emergency services for hate. We're all supposed to be in the service of the people. Common cause.
Now that we can all see what the man has been through, I hope a lot of those haters are doing some soul searching. And regretting.
