I love this photo I got the other day, and wanted to share it on here. I'd been dying to get a photo of COHPD's new Ford Police Interceptor SUV's, and the other day I was driving by Engine 119-Tanker 10 Washington Engine hoping the tanker was out to get a photo, and saw this. Took 2 seconds to photograph, and turned out to be a great shot when I downloaded the photo.
And I'm going to use this opportunity to shamelessly plug my photo pages, you can like it if you want to see photos like this posted fresh everyday, x635Photos on Facebook , Seth Granville-x635Photos on Flickr, and x635Photos.com

Negative. The protocol went into effect about 2 years ago after a major incident in Queens that occurred on Oct. 26 2009.
In that incident a gas leak in the street followed pipes into multiple homes and built up till it was in the explosive range and found an ignition source.

All members of the Special Response Team are trained to use ALL of the equipment that Grant's (read your tax dollars) have purchased. Its not like we purchased a Rescue, that has to put a piece of apparatus out of service to staff. As far as tax money goes, who do you think pays for all of our equipment? Did the Echo Bay project have money trees grown to aquire equipment and personel? Bottom of da Hill, as far as the County needed more pieces of equipment, don't you think the tax payers could do with a few less firehouses to pay for in Tarrytown?

Why doesn't City Hall leave the decision making to people who have a clue about policing and let the members of the NYPD do their jobs and then stand behind them an support them? I know that's just an insane notion though, right?

The missing youth was found at about 1745 hrs 30 June.
He lost his clogs in a swamp and was barefoot, and suffered numerous insect bites as well as probable poison ivy exposure. He did not appear to be the victim of any suspicious or criminal activity. He stated that for part of the time he was gone he was not trying to be found and did lay down and sleep. Admitted to a hospital for dehydration and skin symptom management (it is not always wise to give steroids to a diabetic.)
The response to the request for assistance was tremendous, with at least 10 agencies involved as well as numerous civiliian volunteers, with input on social media and from at least one church..
The family is aware of help from the Town of New Castle Police, the Westchester County Police (patrol, aviation, K9 bloodhounds), the MIllwood Fire company, the Ossining Fire Department, Ossining E.M.S.. Croton E.M.S., PleasantvilleE.M.S., Yorktown Fire, Croton Fire, Chappaqua Fire, Briarcliff manor Fire, and Westchester DES. The family is deeply grateful for the efforts that everybody put in, and the care and coordination that made the response work out so well.

My name is Vincent Antonecchia, I am a Sergeant with the Westchester County Police and the Commanding Officer of The Westchester County Police Aviation Unit. After being alerted to the content of this forum, I am compelled to respond professionally, clear up any false information or misconceptions and provide accurate details about our capabilities and the mechanism for requesting our services.
We are still very much assisting regional jurisdictions and municipalities. The Unit consists of six police officers, including myself and we are all trained as Tactical Flight Officers. One officer is our Unit mechanic. He is A&P/IA licensed through the FAA and has extensive experience and training in the commercial aviation industry. We currently have two Bell 407 helicopters and there are four commercially rated helicopter pilots with varying backgrounds, training and experience. Safety is our number one priority and we strive to be available and provide whatever resources we can to Police, Fire and OEM's. Recently, at the request of the Westchester County DPW, we used our infrared FLIR technology to locate a large underground steam leak at the Westchester Medical Center and prevented the need to dig multiple and costly search holes.
We are available 24/7/365, but obviously limited during inclement weather, high winds, crew availability and concurrent operations. Due to manpower limitations, calls for service and budget constraints, we staff the Unit five days a week from 0900/2400 hours. Our services are FREE as we are a regional asset and regularly operate outside of Westchester County. Any municipality requesting air support should contact the WCPD Desk Officer at (914) 864-7890. Any specific questions concerning the Unit and our capabilities can contact me directly at (914) 995-5019.
The following is a list of our most commonly requested services and capabilities in no particular order:
Bambi-Bucket (fire fighting) operations. We do not require Forest Ranger of SEMO authorization to be called, but requests should be based on common sense, severity and requesting agency protocols FLIR (Infrared) searches (day & night) - Great for locating suspects, lost hikers or "Hot-spots" at fire scenes Ice/water rescue Scene Illumination Aerial photography (Video and/or stills) Surveillance and/or reconnaissance Live video microwave downlinking Project Lifesaver Special Response Team and/or equipment insertion or extraction Scene Illumination Locating and identifying fuel spills/contamination of waterways Force multiplier We are currently conducting hoist training with the WCPD Emergency Services Unit and Marine Unit and will have this completed in mid-May.
Thank you to all who have supported our cause and utilized our services. We look forward to providing whatever regional air support is necessary to increase safety and enhance or further your mission success.

I'm not sure that's the right answer, in fact I'm sure it isn't. Too often we make blanket policies to address the stupidity of a small sample. If out of town Brother's truly want to pay their respects, the sea of uniformed firefighters can be quite moving. I can tell you the day (in 2000) we marched through Worcester it was a moment I'll never forget, it still send shivers up my spine to remember how the second largest city in New England could be reduced to only the sound of footsteps as Brothers from across this country and further marched to the Centrum. Letting a few clowns disassemble something that's larger than any individual, any one FD or even a country would be a damn shame.
It needs to be said to all by their own bosses that if you act inappropriately while in uniform (regardless of who paid for it) then you will be held accountable for "duties unbecoming of a member". can we not instill a minimum level of respect for other Brother's? This is the epitome of Brotherhood just being a slogan that goes along with a window decal or uniform. It is up to our own members to ensure the new guys coming on understand the true meaning of respect and Brotherhood and up to the bosses to ensure their members represent them in a manner that makes the department proud.

If you don't say something to them, you are not helping anything. I say something to the tool bags wearing sunglasses, and the party ribbons on their lapel. I don't give a $h1T if someone gets offended.

No way in hell should any Dept should make the Physical any less challenging for woman. Are the physical demands going to be any less demanding at a Job? Enough already with this B/S and these f****** quotas. Peoples lives, both civilians and ffs are being jeopardized to satisfy a select few. Nor should the written be any less important then the Physical. No need for Braun over Brains folks you actually have to have a decent head on your shoulders also to accomplish the tasks of a ff. Anything less and people will die. FDMV actually had a woman yrs ago and where is she now? Give them the same frigging Physical and if they do well then give them the Job but can we please stop accomadating everybody! Why is it Civil Service always has to be the red headed stepchild when it comes to this nonsense.

I do not understand all of your post. What do you mean by "wow come on really?" , "have some respect"and ..."even if they are volunteers"? Are you infering that I am being disrespectful? If so, please elaborate why you feel this way.
To be clear to the objective and fair minded readers out there- I intend no disrespect. Is your comment "even if they are volunteers" meant to be demeaning or disrespectful of volunteer Firefighters? If so, I disavow that totally and would point out that disrespecting of any group or individual has no place on this forum.
In answer to your question "what answers are you looking for?"...I am looking for (not demanding, simply inquiring) for answers to the questions that I asked.

Sad thing is it really does not have to be this way. Even if you have no money you can train on giving maydays. Teach your members to shut up when there is one and run command officers through scenarios. I think a squared away IC in today's environment should be using a tactical worksheet and on the back or on a separate sheet you should have a MAYDAY checklist. All you need is some people with radios and a simple MAYDAY scenario to run the IC through the procedure. In reality if you never ran through one there is little chance for you to run one smoothly during an emergency.
  19. xchief2x liked a post in a topic by FFPCogs in Fire Department Parades: Friend Or Foe?
I agree with you in that every department should make firefighting their priority, but I don't think parades are why many of them don't, parades are but a symptom. When you come right down to it, any department that places attending parades over firefighting is suffering a far larger problem within their organization so whether or not they attend them won't make any difference on the fireground.
  20. xchief2x liked a post in a topic by BFD1054 in Fire Department Parades: Friend Or Foe?
Pat, has anything been done to ensure this doesn't occur in the future? I highly doubt it. But silly me, alarms don't occur during parades. Time for depts to wake the hell up and get their priorities straight. We've beaten this topic to death over and over again.
Look, if your dept has their s**t together and regularly trains and can handle their alarms with proper manpower and in a timely response, then a parade here and there isn't a big deal. However, this is unfortunately not the case for an overwhelming number of departments.
  21. xchief2x liked a post in a topic by FFEMT150 in Fire Department Parades: Friend Or Foe?
My biggest problem with parades is that they become the focal point of the department. Come home without a best overall and it's nothing but bitching and finger pointing.
The alcohol? Big problem! Some guys just can't hold their booze. The beer starts flowing and the beer muscles grow. No time for crap like that. They also strip the district of manpower. I remember the Lake george parade a few years ago, there were several departments that couldn't get out for their alarms the entire weekend. I also remember running calls that weekend with myself, two other interior members and a driver. No officers or other interior guys around.
Want to have fun in the fire service? Train together or bring back soft ball.

The problem is not parades, it's only with some who attend them.

No offense, Seth, but posts such as this one are a perfect example of why I rarely post here anymore and also why I recommend to our young guys that they use this site and other similar sites solely for entertainment and local incident alerts only. For the purpose of fire service education and intelligent discourse that is vetted and edited by credible experts, stick to the edited fire service journals and websites published by such entities as Fire Engineering, Fire Chief, Fire Rescue, Firehouse, WNYF, NFPA, NIOSH, NFA, FEMA, and fire service textbooks. There are many experienced, educated, intelligent, and reasonable individuals who post on here, however there is also an incredible amount of disinformation and outright falsehoods / nonsense. For our newer fire service membership (which we have very many of currently in YFD) who may not yet have learned which sources are credible and which are not, take what you read here with a healthy dose of skepticism. Oh, and QTIP....

I'm not really looking to have a discussion but if one insues, so be it. I have noticed in a few threads recently that some people aren't able to take criticism or jest very well anymore. I would like to take this opportunity to bring back an acronym that was used by many on this site. Q.T.I.P. Quit taking it personal. Guess what kids, this is the emergency service. You are posting on a forum that is dedicated to us. If you say something out of line or just plain stupid, you will get your various parts busted. That's just how it works. Thanks for your time guys and gals. As always, stay safe.
