Thanks for the hints I definitely want to stop at some of these places if we have the time!!
Today's travels took us into PG Co., but we were on a tight schedule. My father wanted to visit and pay respects to his father's grave, (located in PGCO).
On the way back we passed DCFD Eng. Co. #19, the guys were hosing some stuff down, so we stopped to shoot the breeze.
Not the best photo, I know, but it was a quick shot with as little traffic in front as I could get!

I didn't even get the chance to get any info on this engine, as within 2 minutes of getting there, they got an alarm and had to run.

The above engine is due for replacement in the next few weeks, here is a Spy Shot of the NEW DCFD E-19!!

I am currently holed up down here in Ashburn, Virginia for a friend's wedding. On the trip down, we made a short side-tour to the Gettysburg Battlegrounds, Museum, and National Cemetery (a must see for anyone who has any interest in the Civil War. VERY tastefully done there).
While visiting a family friend, we went to Gettysburg College, and came upon the Gettysburg FD. They had their aerial set-up, along with their Fire Police vehicle, Campus Safety, and possibly even the Police (saw someone with a uniform on, not sure who he was with), doing fire safety demonstrations (extinguisher demo/usage instruction), recruiting, and other PR.
Gettysburg FD runs 2 Engines, 1 Rescue, 1 Truck, 1 Fire Police, 1 Utility, and 2 BLS ambulances.
Spent a good deal of time talking with the guys there, VERY nice and informative, thanks!!!
So far this was the only FD I have stopped at/spoken with, I passed by the local volly house, but I had to get somewhere and did not get a chance to stop. Here is a few quick shots of the Gettysburg rig. I have shots from the Gettysburg Battlegrounds and sites, as well as some other stops, but the internet here at the hotel stinks!!!

This is the link to the Brooklyn Fatal Electrocution. Take note that the victim was a Verizon employee. Even though Utility workers are professional and are usually very good at what they do, bad things sometimes happen to even them. Nobody, especially untrained (in utility services) firefighters have any place being anywhere near those wires, no matter, phone cable, electric.

For those of you that don't know who the merchant marine is, it is the fleet of U.S. civilian-owned merchant vessels.
Seeing as how 9/11 was a few days ago, and I just found this video, I think this speaks volumes about how much the merchant marine is ready, willing, and able to help in times of need.
So, If you have 12 minutes,

This incident made the papers in the UK. They tend to put a different slant on the reporting. There are over a hundred responces from both the US and UK. They are worth reading. Two of the responces posted are:
My Orthodox Jewish friend was there and was told he had to remove his headcovering (yarmulka) if he wanted to go on specific rides. He did not scream anti-semitism - he understood that if he wanted to go on the ride he had to remove it. At that point it was his choice whether to do so or not. This was not an anti-muslim or anti-religious decision. It was made for safety purposes. I also cover my hair - with a scarf and I can understand that a ride might be dangerous if the scarf were to get tangled. People need to grow up and understand that while we might have freedom of religion in this country it doesn't mean that everybody has to cater to your specific whim. While Orthodox Jews don't eat pork - we don't freak out or riot if other people do or if pictures of pigs appear in our sight. Get over it.

You know, Catholic nuns wear these types of scarves for religious reasons, but I have a hard time imagining a group of nuns breaking out into a brawl over having to remove their scarves if they wanted to ride one of these rides. We all know they'd do it peacefully and respectfully, and adapt ... or they'd just choose not to ride the ride. The difference between Islam and all others is that it places itself above the laws of a nation, above ALL nations -- and so it's headed for trouble wherever it settles. Contract that to the Christian religion which encourages its members to respect the laws and render onto Ceasar what is his .

With regard to any possible lawsuits, I hope the County stands thier ground. There is legal president on thier side. The Supreme Court has ruled against a Muslim woman that was denied a drivers license because she refused to remove her headgear for a license photo. The Court ruled that Florida's requirement for an uncovered head shot on the drivers license was proper for public safety.

Well this is truly amazing. According to lohud, over 60 police units had to respond from as far south as Tuckahoe to deal with this unreasonable and unruly crowd. Why? Because their "muslim sensibilities" were insulted? Give me a freakin' break. The rules are posted and for certain rides, there is to be NO WEARING OF ANY TYPE OF HEADGEAR period.
Why do these people think they are exempt from the rules, the laws? I know what they would like; Sharia Law. Their own version of a justice system implemented in the countries they emigrate to. I think that is a disgusting disgrace, as were the actions of these supposedly "religious" people at the Playland park.
Look, you people want to assimilate in this country, fine. I guess we have to let some of you in. But if you don't like the system, the rules in place... TOO F'IN BAD, go back to the place you came from.
The difference between these people and the ancestors of many of us here in this forum is our great-grandparents had a huge desire to assimilate into the American culture. That's why on my mother's side, they came from Italy, moved into the south Bronx and gave up teaching their native language to their children, my mother, and therefore I don't know Italian today as a result. I wish that part were different, but the point being these people were so anxious to "fit in" they even gave up their language. Italian was forbidden to be spoken in the house by my great-grandparents, as a result their great-grandchildren only speak English.
Now these muslims with their headgear, the hijab, they can't even get on the Dragon Coaster without starting a ruckus? Like Playland OWES them something, like WE owe them anything? They should kiss the ground of freedom they walk upon, shut their damn mouths, follow the rules, or else.
What a waste of PD resources to have to direct half the cars on patrol up to Playland because these freaking people were "insulted"! Enough! Fit in or GET OUT!

Read it 3 times.... Does that include going to fires? If not, why not? One day we will be able to pick and choose what we will or will not go out the door for.
Is the scene safe?" This line is heard in almost every training session.
No, it's not safe; thats why they called us! If it were safe, any a$$ could take care of it.

Yes. I went to college with those guys. That's who I learned the trade from. Even the Bronx doesn't have the fires it used to.
And Seth, When you leave the job, you leave a lot behind. If they left it in a closet or dropped it in the dumpster, so be it. If they use what I left and built upon it, even better. Balls 'n' brains...not necessarily in that order.

As was mentioned in a previous post, and kind alluded to in others, CAFS is just another tool/tactic, as is PPV. I have dealt with CAFS on a couple occasions, and have been thoroughly impressed every time. I really think that foam IN GENERAL is a VERY under-utilized.
The fire service... 200+ years of tradition... unimpeded by progress.
  22. xfirefighter484x liked a post in a topic by firemoose827 in Water vs. CAFS
Not for nothing, and please dont take this wrong, its only an observation that I am pointing out to you.
Whenever you use a fog nozzle you add air to the fire, you disrupt the thermal layer and "Push" the fire around if you are not careful. The air in the CAFS is no different, and can be just as dangerous in the hands of someone who is not trained or uncomfortable using the technology. They are the same, just that the CAFS has foam in the stream.
Its not economically feasible in my area, just one five gallon pail of the Class "A" Foam would send our commisioners into coronary failure...wait...that might help, maybe I will bring it up at our next meeting!
I would love to see it used here with our lack of manpower, our mutual aid dept has 2 engines with CAFS and I generaly roll them at every daytime structure fire or vehicle fire in our district. But they are finding it hard to purchase the foam as well, so training is minimal (annual foam training) and they only use it if they need to.

Well it also comes down to needing it to be Blue like the rest of their equipment. Mark, maybe you can strike a deal for this apparatus that is already painted blue, and has a pump! It's not that old, although you may have a problem trying to get the department to sell it LOL!!
