"The plan couldn't even get the votes of the estimated 100 volunteers of the Yorktown Heights Engine Company No. 1, which serves the district."
That is the most telling part of the entire story.

Again, smeal bought LTI, which was a company owned by ALF. As I understand it, LTI makes the physical aeriel device that goes on the truck. It's like if dodge goes out of business tomorrow and ford buys the company that made the dodge motors.

I see lots of emergency vehicles with rear and forward facing blue lights in NY, some FD's, EMS, some other PD's. I do not think anyone cares enough to bother them.
Is it legal in NY? I do not know, it does not intrigue me enough to look it up.
I do not care and I wonder why anyone else would.

As far as getting rid of cops? They do, NYC is down 6,000 cops since 2002, so, yes, they do get rid of cops.
I will let my original statement stand on its own and not even address your reasoning as to why, how and who decides reductions.
If you really believe that cutbacks are decided by one company beating another to a call, then I cannot argue your logic.

His personal pride and pride in his company have nothing to do with the amount of companies, then or now. That has more to do with politics than anything else. It is not something an individual company officer has any say or influence in.
A work ethic like that is rarely seen anymore, but it is sorely needed.
Calling them "morons" is uncalled for.

Problem was - I didn't run the red light. The Judge was smart enough to realize this. She questioned the PO after his statement to confirm that I was turning left and had a green light. When he said yes - she dismissed the case (on lack of evidence or something similar to that).
I am very happy that it was dismissed even with my time spent preparing for it and fighting it.
However, I was pissed that I got written the ticket in the first place for something I didn't do - but I'm big enough to get over that, eventually

So, to follow up on this. I went to the DMV today, had a bunch of photos, extract of the V&T law, some news articles. Judge heard the PO's testimony and dismissed the summons without me saying anything!
I did upset the judge a bit afterwards as the PO was clueless as to why the ticket was dismissed and I tried to explain my understanding of the situation.

Some of the SUV's will be assigned to "general" patrol.
This in not an "all-inclusive" list, but it gives an idea where SUV's may end up on routine patrol.
One or two will go to Precincts that have beaches, such as Orchard Beach (45 Pct), the Rockaways (100, 101 Pct's) and Coney Island (60 Pct).
Precincts that have large parks, such as Pelham Bay Park (45 Pct), Van Cortlandt Park (50 Pct), Central Park (CPP Pct) and Prospect Park (I think the 76 Pct) may also see one or two each.

I am posting only one more comment and then I am done with this topic.
If 7 out of the 17 FF's you are referring to as responding are High School students, then your department is in big trouble.
I am not knocking HS age FF's, that's when I got my start.

My name is Vincent Antonecchia, I am a Sergeant with the Westchester County Police and the Commanding Officer of The Westchester County Police Aviation Unit. After being alerted to the content of this forum, I am compelled to respond professionally, clear up any false information or misconceptions and provide accurate details about our capabilities and the mechanism for requesting our services.
We are still very much assisting regional jurisdictions and municipalities. The Unit consists of six police officers, including myself and we are all trained as Tactical Flight Officers. One officer is our Unit mechanic. He is A&P/IA licensed through the FAA and has extensive experience and training in the commercial aviation industry. We currently have two Bell 407 helicopters and there are four commercially rated helicopter pilots with varying backgrounds, training and experience. Safety is our number one priority and we strive to be available and provide whatever resources we can to Police, Fire and OEM's. Recently, at the request of the Westchester County DPW, we used our infrared FLIR technology to locate a large underground steam leak at the Westchester Medical Center and prevented the need to dig multiple and costly search holes.
We are available 24/7/365, but obviously limited during inclement weather, high winds, crew availability and concurrent operations. Due to manpower limitations, calls for service and budget constraints, we staff the Unit five days a week from 0900/2400 hours. Our services are FREE as we are a regional asset and regularly operate outside of Westchester County. Any municipality requesting air support should contact the WCPD Desk Officer at (914) 864-7890. Any specific questions concerning the Unit and our capabilities can contact me directly at (914) 995-5019.
The following is a list of our most commonly requested services and capabilities in no particular order:
Bambi-Bucket (fire fighting) operations. We do not require Forest Ranger of SEMO authorization to be called, but requests should be based on common sense, severity and requesting agency protocols FLIR (Infrared) searches (day & night) - Great for locating suspects, lost hikers or "Hot-spots" at fire scenes Ice/water rescue Scene Illumination Aerial photography (Video and/or stills) Surveillance and/or reconnaissance Live video microwave downlinking Project Lifesaver Special Response Team and/or equipment insertion or extraction Scene Illumination Locating and identifying fuel spills/contamination of waterways Force multiplier We are currently conducting hoist training with the WCPD Emergency Services Unit and Marine Unit and will have this completed in mid-May.
Thank you to all who have supported our cause and utilized our services. We look forward to providing whatever regional air support is necessary to increase safety and enhance or further your mission success.

The FD instituted the policy, not the school.
Why are you assuming the school is behind it?

Unfortunately it happens from time to time all over the fire service career and Volunteer, East Coast West Caost. Should be no beer in any firehouse.
