  1. Two interstate highways (I-287, I-684) and one parkway (Hutchinson River) pass through Purchase FDs district combining for over 12 miles. On all MVAs Engine 240 is first due, followed by Rescue 30. If additional apparatus and/or manpower is required then either Engine 238 or 239 are available to respond. 2163 is also available for M/A if necessary...
  2. The following videos were filmed from the officer’s seat of Engine 23 of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department. In some parts of the second video, the Roto-Ray can be seen in the lower left hand corner. I’m not sure that it emits any distinct lighting pattern, particularly because of Engine 23’s extensive lighting package. Either way, I feel that it is more of a gaudy decoration than anything else and wouldn’t include it on my spec sheet. 6. I believe that while the old Battalion 15 might have been one of the larger groups (10), all of them worked together from top to bottom. This isnt going to change any M/A assignments, so what was accomplshed?
  7. Can someone give me the Westchester County definition of a Battalion and a Battalion Coordinator? I would like to have a better idea of what the DES wants to accomplish by having these, and also what was the purpose of the realignment. 8. I think that an annual competition among career, combination, and volunteer departments would be an unbelievable learning experience. Seeing different techniques and equipment in operation would be very interesting to see.
  9. What kind of interest level do you think departments in the county would have in some kind of firematic competetion? Having a county wide extrication competition or some kind of firematic challenge seems like it would be a lot of fun to me. I think it would be a great way for departments from all over to share techniques and knowlegde of extrication and general firematics. One example that comes to mind the is J.O.L.T. (Jaws Of Life Competition) http://www.firematic.com/jolt.php.

  14. being a member of Purchase FD i can tell you that the skills of the EMS are slowly coming into our department. We currently have 6 NYS EMTs on our roster and another member in class for it now. We are planning on holding a CFR class for our members at some point in 2006. The reasoning behind it is that we spend alot of our time on the highway and work with Harrison EMS alot. I personally believe that having a medic around the house would be great. In 2005 i believe we did 5 or 6 extrications, some more serious then others. We always welcome new members to our department. We drill every wednesday night at 7 pm, and you are more then welcome to drop in and check things out. If you would like for me to tell you more about the department you can PM me on emtbravo or you can email me at cowboyz84@aol.com JBJ

On the official FDNY website nothing is stated about any upcoming application periods... http://nyc.gov/html/fdny/html/community/ems_employment.shtml But on the DCAS website it shows there being one from Feb 1st to the 21st... http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcas/html/employment/ocexams.shtml When i called the city back in October i gave them my information. They said that they would send me something in the mail, but nothing has come yet. Does anyone have some concrete information that they can give me? Thanks in advance...
