Detective Marcano was recognized by President Obama as one the nations top police officers.
Great job! I see two other NYPD MOS in that crowd and wonder what they were also honored for?

This is a typical media NON-STORY........................Hire more FF's and the o.t. goes down, it's just that simple...............

It is my understanding that the UFA prohibition is against FF's volunteering for departments where the volunteer organization would be considered a direct competitor to that members specific UFA local.... ie a FDNY member would be prohibited from volunteering at Richmond, Oceanic, Gerritson Beach, Point Breeze, etc as they directly compete with Local 94. But a FDNY member volunteering for TOR in Stamford does not directly compete with that members local thus it is permissible.
Perfect example is all the DCFD members who are vollies in PG, Anne Arundle, Montgomory, Fairfax, and Louden counties.
NO............ANY Combo FD where there are IAFF members!
And not to start a war here, but the DCFD members volunteering in those combo Departments are scabbing it also!

2 questions............
#1......Why was an FDNY officer driving another fire departments rig in another state........on a call?????
And #2
Why was said FDNY officer even involved in a department where there are other UNION firemen????? Last time I checked, NYC UFA and UFOA members are barred from serving as vollies in Combo departments.........
Maybe Stamfords Local should have a talk with this person.........

Here are some of my photos of the musterIs that the old Fairview Ahrens Fox ladder?

Where did my posts go???? There was no flaming................................Guess the 1st Amendment doesn't apply around here.................

Well, that totals three. So I trust we'll never see you comment on any topic if it's not directly related to where you work and live?Correct........take a look at the number of my posts..........I rarely post on things unless they involve me in some way.
Have a safe New Year!

If you have to live in Yonkers or work for Empress, most of the Members on this board are ineligible to participate in this discussion. Then I guess you're correct.............Cause those are the 2 groups of people that this whole issue affects...............Along with YFD members.............

I, too, hope you never have to. However, whether that Engine company goes to the call or not is a crapshoot, as is the training, certification, and medical competency of the members on board. You're also hoping Yonkers FD Dispatchers think that you actually need the Engine Company, and that those Dispatchers don't "forget" to call Empress.About a week before my son was born last summer, I was on my way home from work one morning. I was driving North on Central Ave. and started feeling extremely lightheaded, nauseous, and dizzy. By the time I parked my car in my parking spot I was blacking out. I barely made it into my door when I practically collapsed on the floor. My wife called 911 imediately and within (it seemed instantaneous) 2 minutes or so, the men from 14 Engine were in my apt. taking care of me.................Can't say the same for Empress...........
And by the way, the Brothers from 14 Engine provided Excellent, Competent care! I can say that because I've also been doing this for a living for almost 12 years, in an Engine company that runs over 4,000 runs per year.
You on the other hand seem to have an axe to grind with the YFD.................Do you live in Yonkers or do you work for Empress? If the answer is no for both, then keep quiet!

How many of you who have SOO much to say about what goes on in Yonkers actually live in Yonkers? I've been a Yonkers resident for almost 11 years, and I can say with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY that I want that engine company down the street from me responding if I call! I have a wife and little boy at home and rest alot easier when i'm at work and know that if my wife has to god forbid call 911, that Engine company is going to be there very quick! I'm tired of some of these posts by people who don't have a dog in this fight!
As a Yonkers resident, and an FDNY Union Delegate, I say I support you Local 628
Keep up the good fight!!!!

There used to be a really GREAT web site called "onthejobny.com" that Mike Martinelli, (aka "TRUCK 4") had on the net for awhile a few years ago. At one Holiday Season, he had posted photos that he had from both Yonkers and Mount Vernon Fire Departments from back in the 1960's and 1970's, were were nothing short of CLASSICS. (Maybe he can get that site going again)
You're confusing 2 different websites..............Mike Martinelli (Hackensack, NJ FD) still runs FDNYTrucks.com.................Mike Messar (Yonkers PD) used to run Onthejobny.com.

NYPD spare RMPs are a crap shoot.
When I was a cop in the 4-8, I worked 4x12's...............One very busy friday night tour, my partner and I blew the engine on our RMP.....Went back to the house, got a spare that the 4-8 had...........within 45 minutes, we broke one of the leafsprings responding to an 85 forthwith.............Went back to the house again, and got our 3rd car of the tour (which was also a spare), and If I remember correctly, we broke that one also by the end of the tour......................
Desk Sgt. wasn't too happy with us..............

Page 18, second row down.............2nd pic from the right of the Brothers from Squad 41....................2nd member from the right facing the camera is Pete McLaughlin........eventually became a member of R-4 and died LOD on Oct. 8, 1995.
Rest in Peace Pete!
And to M Ave.............I also had Tommy Grimshaw as an instructor in Probie school............What a gentleman............and I believe that he did retire a few years ago.

Only in the 80's did the introduction of an impact cap inside the leather helmets start the transition to this standard we have today.

Nothing like a 19 dollar piece of grilled chicken right Marc lol
Ahh, It is what it is..............No biggie
-
...ya know, bread and fry a sponge with the rest of the chicken parm!
On a serious note: we regularly TRY to accommodate everyone, and for less serious issues than being vegetarian. If a few fish haters are working we don't get fish.....
I'm a non-seafood eater............but if the men know i'm working, they will always buy me a chicken cutlet. And in the meantime, i'm still helping prepare the fish meal...........it's never been a problem..........and i'm not the only one who doesn't eat fish in the firehouse.
The men are ALWAYS accomodating!!!!!
