If Yorktown only need monitoring equipment, why didn't it just go up in a command car with one FF rather than taking an engine out of town?  Anyone who listens to the scanner knows that pretty much anything above a dumpster or car fire in Hartsdale requires M/A, likewise Fairview and Greenville, so it really doesn't seem to make sense to send a front line first due apparatus 15 miles North.

If ever consolidation was warranted its these three joining in with White Plains.

I do not live in the Hartsdale Fire District, but if I did, I would be up in arms about this. You pull an engine from service with a crew of firefighters, leaving the district less protected, by 1 engine company and 2-4 firefighters.

There is absolutely no reason for this to happen.

A HFD captain happens to be the voli assistant chief in Yorktown who requested this department specifically to the scene.

If my taxes were paying for a HFD rig to travel to Yorktown with firefighters, I would not be happy.

    -Fuel costs
    -OT costs to backfill
-Reduced fire protection to the district, until backfill personnel arrives.......

    Wrong on several different levels.

Oh this should end well for everyone. Where will they be getting all this new energy? Canada? Really? Wind Farms? That should be able to create the same amount of energy of a nuclear power plant. I know Indian Point is old and could use a updating but you cant just cut a quarter of the power and think everything is gonna be ok.

I believe these trucks were identified in a much earlier post and reiterated in this thread by Morningjoe as the 'Governors' trucks, hence the red lights.  They are for his use in extreme weather/road conditions and are dump trucks because they were bought by the DOT with surplus Homeland Security funds after the 2011 storms. Though the mud flaps say DOT, the door decal is definitely not DOT, more like NYS Homeland Security or something to that effect. Originally painted yellow, they were repainted black and there are four positioned around the State at garages operated by the Office of General Services for his use and were 'rebranded 'as 'rescue trucks'.  Originally intended to be used in place of the Governors SUV which almost got washed away while inspecting upstate flood areas, these trucks were only two wheel drive and not high enough to traverse seriously deep water.  I believe they have now added five surplus military trucks capable of dealing with high water and snow.

Deja-Vu. Way back in late 70's I worked in Westwood, NJ. Stopped every morning at the same spot for the newspaper across the street from a furniture
store. All quiet. Went up the block and stopped for gas. While I'm pumping the sirens go off and I look back down the street and the furniture store looks like this video. Fully engulfed, blowing out the windows in just a few minutes. All that lacquered furniture really burns hot. I never made it to the office, spent most of the day on a 2-1/2" line.

You can't judge a book by its cover. Went to very nice home, EMS call, well kept property, house looked fine, BMW in the driveway, lady owner was a buyer for a major department store, impeccably dressed, go inside, nightmare on Elm Street.  Thank god it was an EMS call and not a fire.

Here's the problem, first sorry for the unfortunate passing of the physician. How many FF are on a Scarsdale engine?  Asking, I don't know the answer.  And on their truck?  So, Scarsdale is here, Eastchester, Hartsdale, Fairview, Greenville, White Plains and New Rochelle.  With the exception of New Rochelle and White Plains, what happens in the rest of the Villages if another working fire comes in? Or just two AA's at the same time? Just asking......How much of this MA was needed because most, if not all, of the paid departments don't run with the proper compliment of FF. Does it take 2 additional mutual aid engines to get the same number of FF as two fully staffed engines. 2 Ladders to get the proper number of FF for 1?

Unfortunately, greed is timeless.  This is not the first time the use of these types of facilities with inadequate protections and egress for a fast buck has resulted in tragedy and it won't be the last.

I have to disagree here and agree with antiquefirelt, Get inside with drychem to at least slow the advance. Been there done that, kept a room and contents in check with a 5lb dry chem until the first engine arrived.  How about getting a rope line around the wire and pulling it off to a safe distance? Sometimes Monday morning analysis, in a nice way, can inspire some changes.  And, back to some prior forum discussions, this I why I think local utility companies need to have a 24/7 rapid response truck, lights and sirens, to respond for cases just like this.  These utility workers have specialized training, I don't think it would be a stretch to train them in emergency driving.
