What are EMS agencies (those not already dispatched through EMD) doing to adhere to WREMSCO's new EMD policy, effective Janurary 1st, 2013.
Due to critical importance of pre-arrival instructions and resource prioritization associated with emergency medical calls, the Westchester REMSCO urges all dispatch centers to institute the use of Priority Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) with a quality improvement procedure. EMS agencies authorized by the REMAC to provide ALS services will be required to be dispatched by EMD Centers effective January 1, 2013

I'm wondering if anyone here works in a system that distributes Nasal Narcan to opiate addicts, or makes it available to them? Or equips BLS units with them? If so, have you seen any results lately?
I think that it's a pretty good idea to distribute Nasal Narcan to addicts, especially with the potent heroin currently going around. I even think that BLS units should be able to carry it. It's kind of similar to what an epi pen is to people with severe allergies.
Suffolk County Police are doing a pilot program with NYSDOH. They have issued nasal narcan to some officers and it's already saved a life!

DANBURY -- Fighting fires is a dangerous business, but someone has to make sure it's done safely.
Somebody has to make sure that firefighters don't get so weary they endanger themselves or others.

Firedude, I'd suggest going to the DEMHS Regional Coordinators and providing them with the information, because they can notify all the fire and police Chiefs, as well as the Emergency Management Directors.
Self-dispatching is only going to piss people off and get you escorted off scenes by the PD, but if you get a good awareness campaign going you can become a well known asset and get called to more incidents. It would be even better if you could meet with all the local Chiefs.
Finally, where in Wallingford will this be stationed?
I'm in no way affiliated with this agency and have no plans to be. Just posted this to get the word out.

The dispatcher hanging up when someone called 911 saying they need an ambulance. Maybe thats a bit of an exaggeration but we all know westchester's 911 communications are far from perfect. This can only help, right?
