  2. Already hit Philadelphia... www.ambulimo.com ...crew wears tuxedos with white gloves!
  3. It's still unclear to what extent they will be using the new choppers for medevac missions....most helipads in NJ/PA are not certified to accommodate its weight... Rescue operations are based out of Trenton-Mercer Airport and reportedly a rescue qualified crew can be mustered on all tours.
  4. Watch out for White Plains Nissan...they are pulling the same nonsense. I needed to have my engine REPLACED in my meticulously cared for Xterra because another dealer stated that they had not performed any of the services on record SPECIFICALLY oil changes. Because of the electronic records generated by each "service" I was able to have a new engine installed at no cost. BEWARE! Unless you know your mechanic I suspect this nonsense is occuring EVERYWHERE!
  5. These are the first tree-huggers to ask "what took you so long?" when they need help! TWO THUMBS DOWN! Get a life.
  6. This is the 2nd of 2 serious "firefighters trapped" incidents here in Delaware County, PA in the past 6 weeks. This was an exterior attack on a detached garage when a partial collapse trapped 3 firefighters. The entire incident unfolded before the first 20 minute mark. May FF Regan Rest In Peace. 8. It depends on what features you are interested in... the fire/ems scheduling just didn't have the features we wanted. The responding-reply system worked very well and would give you a good idea of your staffing for a call (especially 2nd ambulance calls) who was coming down and their approx ETA. With that though, everyone needs to participate every time or else it's a useless tool. The phone/email text paging was another great feature since we eliminated our alpha pagers and went with the ""free" county pagers that are good paperweights. Are these capabilities worth $800/year, $66/month? I think so.
  9. Just finished trialing this system here... It's only good if you remember to use it. Admin functions are limited, but it does do group email/text paging.

  11. The list price for this unit is about $15,000. I've been quoted prices as low as $8,500-$10,000 on various "deals." Refurbs are usually available at reduced cost as well as leasing/financing. Right now we are in a "phase 2" trial, we have the unit (at no cost) for 1 year. The only restrictions we have on the use are the manufacturers recommendations for size/weight and traumatic codes. If the code warrents CPR, the device is applied. I see where you are going with the "savable;" certainly this device has the potential to revive patients with little or no brain function left. On the contrary, this device has the potential to revive patients that normally wouldn't have a chance. The technology is truly remarkable. Unfortunately due to the cost I don't see it becoming "main stream" very soon.
  12. So far we've had 3 uses with the Autopulse on the BLS truck...all 3 produced ROSC (Return Of Spontaneous Circulation).

  17. As an NCEMSF veteran and a member of the host squad last year, I would have to say its more of a social event than conference. What do you think you get when you put 1000 college kids in a hotel together with alcohol for a weekend? The skills competitions and keynote speakers have historically been excellent in my opinion. Its all what you make of it. If you're looking for serious Con-Ed and top-notch speakers, EMS Today Conference is the place to be....Baltimore Inner Harbor this year!
  18. Little Giant ladder on all 5 pieces of apparatus...its the halligan tool of ladders...millions of uses! www.radnorfire.com
  19. This call happened here in Delaware County, PA...I had the pleasure of hearing it LIVE on the air while in the ER and almost pissed myself! The lady actually got in and tried to move the ambulance, but luckily the crew had the Horton security feature activated and it locked down and honked until they got back. She was not cited and the medics would not press charges, but the Police made sure to put her in her place!

  21. Here's a novel idea from suburban Philly... We have 4 chiefs in our dept., but only chief vehicle. The highest ranking chief on duty gets the car, while the other chiefs respond to the firehouse and ride the rigs unless the call is in close vicinity to their location and would respond direct to the scene. As a former Westchester volly, I think this system works very well. In my NY company, you had up to 3 chiefs responding to the scene and in most cases would mitigate a situation before the apparatus even hit the street. With that said 1) how are your "Indians" going to learn anything and be able to handle a situation when the Chiefs are no where to be found if they don't have the expereince? 2) Although I wouldn't argue against that time is of the essence in a life threatening emergency, doesn't a truck full of guys & equipment under the direction of a chief, captain or Lt. make a lot more sense than one or two chiefs at any scene? 3) Trucks that never hit the street certainly isn't boosting moral for an already dwindling population of volunteers.

  23. Heres the breakdown: 3 Hurst Combo-tools- 1 each left/right side & 1 front bumper mounted. 2 sets cutters, 1 set 32" spreaders. 2 full sets hurst rams. We also run a 2003 Seagrave "Squad" engine with Hurst tools & various first responder rescue equipment. We service Interstate 476, routes 30 & 320, and 2 rail lines. As for the roto-ray...I don't care for it, I think it was part a nostalgic piece since its on our recently restored 1954 Mack B75. And yes this piece would fit right in at Bedford Hills between 57 & the tanker!

  25. There has been a big push in PA to switch to an all alphanumeric paging dispatch system which allows the integration with the county's CAD system. I know alpha paging hasn't caught on it Westchester but I believe Purchase was experimenting with 60 COntrol on this... I personally feel its a great supplement to the voice paging over the minitor, but don't think its reliable enough as a first alerting device. What are everyones thoughts? And do you miss your Minitor II since you've gotten a III or IV? They don't make em like they used to!
