Given that theory, one would think that HFD and their elite HAZMAT team would be dispatched to all incidents across the county....... if you want to use the theory of calling specialized and highly trained members,

why not call Yonkers? Or FDNY for that matter? It's not all thst much further than Hartsdale.

Because they'd be ridiculed by people on this site for not calling a closer department that has the capabilities.

  2. Everyone in this topic has said they would do it their way which is absolutely fine. None of you were the IC, and we've heard from members on scene even one in charge of operations, the IC did it how he thought he should run it. That's that. You guys didn't get the answers your looking for and have now jumped on the consolidation argument hoping that will work. I believe it was posted earlier in the topic, this is for discussion about the fire incident itself not consolidation. Feel free to make another topic about that so that can fade away like all the other consolidation topics. Like I said the pettiness and the unhappy with the answers you're getting is the reason this website has died.

  3. Great job and thanks for taking the photos!! Out of curiosity I was told you should try to be 10' away from wires with aerials? Obviously there is inherent risk when dealing with wires. *Not trying to make anything of this by any means just strictly a curiosity/learning question.*

  4. Well then prove him wrong. If you can't do it for him, how can you do it for the people who pay for it?

Well A) it's not my job to prove it to anyone.

B ) why can't he prove that they've said no and are not helping agencies? I think making an assumption that they are doing that and him saying it's because they haven't heard them on local pd frequencies is not valid.

  5. What is the optimal mounting for hurst tools? I've seen them mounted in compartments on the driver's side, the passenger's side, the rear, these depend on how the truck is positioned safety wise and then the downside of having to bring the tools around the other side of the truck (then you lose length). Someone mentioned something earlier about a compartment that you can pull from either side. I've never seen this done with hurst tools. Does anyone have a picture of that?

  6. Well the Bedford automatic response has been in place for many years and is not recent. It depends on where the call is in their district and brings tankers and a ladder due to the lack of hydrants and that the fire house restricts what pieces of apparatus they can have. So it makes sense to request those trucks because if they could have them they would. So the response isn't a full department response as you leave it open to be.

I don't know anything about the others so I cannot comment on south salem and vista or the goldens bridge and croton falls situations. What is your input regarding your fire department's purpose for having Croton Falls on automatic response to every fire call? Is it manpower problems, apparatus problems or money problems, etc?

  7. They had made revisions more recently if you paid attention, they just forgot to update the date. If they had not updated it, Rescue 85 would not be on the list. Not trying to argue.

Yeah the date and who the commissioner is! It seems like an old list to me, not one they didn't change the date on. Maybe if you paid attention you would've noticed that instead of "not trying to argue"

  8. very interesting discussion. I am not really in favor of this. I think the small communities are going to lose some of what made them great (the small town services). just thinking, why don't we close every store in every town and just open a

Walmart supercenter? Is this how we want our communities to function. Remember the beat cop? he knew all the local kids and there parents. Why does CT not have county govt? Who is correct?

When a resident with some clout calls up at 1 am does not get a local officer then we will see what happens. I just think some of these small villages and towns residents want local cops to handle everything. This is not an issue about efficiency this is just a dollar issue as of now, it is to save 200K that's it.

According to the article though it says they will only be dispatched by WCPD, It says nothing about the County PD sending their cars. It's just WCPD dispatching Tuckahoe cars, the town saves their local officers and the "beat cop".

  9. Nothing is going to make things 100% safe, but in my opinion, distractive driving is the cause of many problems and THAT should be a concern for law enforcement. We make laws like no cell phone use or texting while driving, but no one talks about reading, eating, putting on makeup or rummaging through our bags while driving. I believe in most states there are laws against distractive driving, why isn't that enforced more. Cops give out tons of speeding tickets, but ignore other things that are just as dangerous. My guess is a speeding ticket usually doesn't get challenged and the fines are high. If I can see people doing all sorts of strange things in their car while driving, why can't the cops? Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

Do you have data to back up your statement that cops write tons of speeding tickets but ignore other things that are just as dangerous?

  10. Ossining needs dispatchers to handle there announcements like rigs out of service and special events like parades and other things that go on within Ossining FD I would think that 60 would not be able to handle that part of the dispatching.

Why do they need special dispatchers for that? Every other FD has trucks go into/out of service and parades and 60 doesn't make those announcements for them.
