Finally, Code 3 has started making new molds, but personally, I agree with Seth. I've sort of noticed that myself, as I personally have a large collection. For instance, I just got their model of the SFFD's Truck 4's open-cab ALF, and I noticed that between some of their older models, the newer ones seem to be a little less detailed and accurate, as well seemingly thrown together. I also noticed that some of the details on the rigs weren't as realistic or meticulously done, to where some Corgi rigs look more accurate. I don't know, maybe they got hit hard in the recession and they're trying to cut cost, but to me, some of the newer models aren't the same as those in the past.

This is really a shame. A busy city like Camden losing one of, if not it's most important assets.
Adequate fire protection the city says? The city residents' taxes aren't paying for some other neighboring fire department to come in and put out it's own fires, while it's fire department is being torn apart by the city officials, nor is the neighboring town/city residents' taxes paying for it's departments to fight some other city's fires. And no danger to the city's residents? What happens if the neighboring town/city departments are at another fire in their own town/city, tied up, while there's a fire in Camden that the Camden FD can't respond to? What's the point in Camden having it's own fire department if a neighboring one is doing all the work for it. On top of that, the city's firefighters are getting laid-off, and the Camden Fire Department is losing companies to rolling brownouts everyday. The Camden Fire Department literally being discarded by it's own city. Great job City of Camden! Politicians really know the right way to cut costs.

An AED costs, well, nothing. They are cheaper than some iPhone's. Every single person with a pulse should be familiar with CPR and the use of an AED. Every engine co. in NYC has one. Perhaps every patrol car should have one as well. They should be in every single public gathering place and someone who knows how to use one should be within useful distance of it at all times.
It's so easy a child could use one. They're so cheap there's no budget excuse not to have one. They can and do mean the difference between life and death. If more people are trained in CPR and more AED's are available, perhaps they're mean life more often.

If we are dispatched, we will come. If the PD gets there first and it's minor and dispatch tells us so, we would slow down our response. We wont return to quarters unless told by the FD IC on scene, or we get there and evaluate. We trust our PD agencies, but belive in the "trust, but verify" motto.
  10. dmc2007 liked a post in a topic by sfrd18 in Response to MVA's
This is a great discussion topic. It's a sticky question, with many opinions, ideas, views, and experiences linked to it's answer.
In my opinion, I think that the fire department should respond to certain(however most) MVA's in their city/town/district, but not all. I also feel that the decision as to if and or when the fire department should respond should be based on the information acquired and the decisions made by dispatch and or the first arriving emergency units on scene, such as city/state police(I found that the police in my area are usually always dispatched and are also the first to arrive at the scene of an accident, big or small).
If dispatch receives a 9-1-1 call with the informant saying someone rear-ended him/her, and if it's determined that it's minor or a fender-bender, I feel that dispatch should dispatch PD and or EMS first to the scene, prior to the fire department. On any other occasion, whether it be a fire, major fluids leaking, roll-over, ejection, entrapment, car into tree, car into pole, car into building, car into water, or head-on collision reported(as said above), I feel that dispatch should request the fire department to respond, if however, that information can be determined. However, depending on the type of accident, dispatch should determine how many or of what type of fire apparatus to send. For example, if it's a reported fluid leak, the dispatch should be one engine at the least. For an entrapment or any other type of accident where an actual collision or a victim is mentioned, one-two engines and a rescue/squad or any other unit with extrication equipment. I think that a department should have a response protocol for each different type of MVA's, and not just vague and broad minor MVA's and extrications that can be one of many situations. Everything also depends on what type and the number of apparatus a department has(whether it be paid or volunteer), or has available from another department to them, and or if the department operates as the EMS provider, or if it's provided by another, either volunteer or paid ambulance service.
My dept. usually runs an engine and a rescue, or just a rescue on all MVA's, other than fluid spills. On fluid spills and car fires, we usually run an engine, a rescue, or both, depending what the first unit on scene reports. Because our rescue is more like a squad engine(i.e. it has a pump, hose, and engine company equipment on board), it can respond as a rescue, while performing engine company capabilities. For example, say that there's an MVA reported with smoke, or something of that nature. If only our rescue goes for one reason or another, and if there is a car fire, we already have, essentially, an engine on scene. However, most departments around where I live and work operate engines and a straight-forward rescue. This goes especially for cities that don't have squad engines in addition.
    Just my $0.02.
  11. sfrd18 liked a post in a topic by efdcapt115 in Where are all the good discussions?
You want to know what a real kick in the nutz is? We have almost 50 comments, and 4 pages of replies in a topic about an immature fire chief who hung truck nutz on his rig and defied his boss the mayor when told to remove them.
When we try to get a topic moving on this site about elevator rescue techniques, fire fighting tactics, scenarios, "what would you do" types of discussions, we get......YAWNS.
When we get a photo set of a new rig, some of us go on and on about the rig; where's the hurst-tool, where's the water cooler, we'll get the 50 comments and the 4 pages again.
I'm not sure why, but it seems sometimes the topics that should be getting the comments and the pages of discussion go by the wayside; and the ones that should get a few replies, and move on down the board into category obscurity, seem to go on forever.
What's up with that? I'm not saying conversation about the truck nutz should be over. What I'm saying is the next time one of our truly knowledgeable members comes up with an idea for a good discussion, maybe some of us should make a little more of an effort to participate and keep the really informative discussions going....
    Maybe that will start happening?
In the meantime, back to the nutz.
  12. efdcapt115 liked a post in a topic by sfrd18 in Nightmare in Shanghai
Right! The FDNY would of had ladder companies searching and maybe a few tower ladders hitting the building from the outside closer to the ground. Plus, over here, we would have started an interior attack(why didn't they use the building's standpipe system?), as well as search and rescue.
And, I totally agree with you there. People in this country do take building fire safety codes for granted. Plus, our fire service, as far as (mainly)response times(half of those 100 pieces of fire apparatus should have been on scene long before the video was taken and most of the building was engulfed), amount of fire apparatus on scene, fire attack methods, firefighter safety, search and rescue methods, and even high-rise firefighting in general, is much more evolved and advanced firefighting, as compared to many fire departments in parts of Europe and Asia. Not to say that these departments are still using horse-drawn steam engines, but firefighting in the U.S. is really one of the best firefighting industries in the world.
I guess it also helps in situations like this that our country is a Democracy.
