Is $440,000 a value for this program pumper? I think it's even more valuable when the lifespan of the apparatus is considered, as well as the build quality and dealer support.

The new Engine 23 drove by me in traffic today on I-95 in Fairfield, CT. It looks great!
I have some spy shots, but I hesitate to produce them if it's still a secret .

A fight......in hockey. Part of the game. So?
By the way, two cops selflessly rushed into a building yesterday investigating a fire. When they were overcome with smoke while stuck in an elevator, firemen rushed in to help our brothers in blue.
This is the story of reality on the street everyday. Two agency's that work hard along side each other.....
......oh! Sorry, let's get back to the completely unheard-of occurrence of a fight during a hockey game. (A game that ended with hand shakes and hugs all around)

I, along with 25 of my Brothers spent 2 days paying our respect to Lt Walsh and FF Kennedy. I have to tell you that there needs to be a class on proper etiquette taught to the younger generation of firefighters. I can't tell you how many members I saw carrying cases of beer on their shoulders walking the streets where our Brother was being celebrated. Guys just walking by the church with 24 on their shoulder. I don't really know if they were career or volley and don't really care who they are affiliated with but their actions disgusted me as well as other New Rochelle Firefighters. If you want to have a few beers between the service and the last drive past the sea of blue please go to a bar. If you want to tailgate and party in front of the civilians like morons please go to a football or baseball game. In front of the church and on peoples lawns is not the place!!!!

    Rest in peace brothers.
Firefighter Mike R. Kennedy, 33 years old, of Ladder Co. 15 and Lieutenant Edward Walsh, Jr., 43 years old, of Engine Co. 33.

Lt. Ed Walsh had 9 1/2 years on the job and lived in West Roxbury with his wife and three kids: two boys and a girl all under 10 years old. He was the son of a Watertown, MA FD lieutenant. His uncle was also a lieutenant and his cousin Tom is a captain in Watertown FD.
Firefighter Mike Kennedy had 6 1/2 years on the job and lived in Hyde Park. He was single and a U.S.M.C. veteran. Firefighter Kennedy sat on the Board for the BFD Firefighter's Burn Foundation, which volunteers in helping burn patients.

Ladder towers were used in medieval time to attack castles. Archers would shoot at the castle defender from the top. Game of Throwns starts soon. Tower Ladders are the safest type of ariels in the fire service. Rearmount ladders are unpredictable and have been known to hit firefighters in the head while operating at fires.

  17. sfrd18 liked a post in a topic by Bnechis in Duration a FAST Unit Should Remain On Scene?
    2. Why doesn't Westchester have an accepted minimum training / minimum staffing for almost everything we do? Why did some inner city areas of the county get ALS before most wealthy areas? Why is no one complaining when they hear page after page for manpower? We have depts. that are violating state and federal laws when it comes to this and they are just relying on the fact that no one is forcing the issue.
    3. because we have way too many fire departments who can no longer staff to the most minimum of levels and they refuse to consider changing and as long as the public does not demand it we can slide. By their silence they are lying to the public who think they are protected.
    5 AGREED!!!!!!!!
  18. sfrd18 liked a post in a topic by Remember585 in Duration a FAST Unit Should Remain On Scene?
    1. So long as personnel are operating within the IDLH - then yes, someone needs to be designated to the responsibility of firefighter rescue. How an IC handles this is their call.
    2. Why doesn't Westchester have an accepted minimum training / minimum staffing requirement in the Mutual Aid plan for a FAST company?
    3. Why is everyone depending on the Mutual Aid FAST to be their "solution" to cover their 2 In / 2 Out? Someone needs to be the "2 Out" right off the bat if you got "2 In."
    4. What is a department's SOG when they have a MAYDAY? This is something our department is working on now for several months. Our biggest concern isn't so much what happens at an incident in our jurisdiction, it's when we go Mutual Aid. How do we go about getting the resources we're looking to get? What do you do if that IC refuses to call for them?
    5. It's 2014. We have talked about FAS Teams for what, 15 or more years and had the same discussions/debates... let's knock off this bullshit and get a f***ing plan in place, train on it and pray we never need it! This isn't about paid vs. volunteer, this isn't about calling a department because they're your drinking buddies - THIS IS TAKING CARE OF OUR OWN.
I'm sorry guys, but this stuff truly strikes a nerve with me. But I know DAMN WELL that those of you who are intelligent firefighters, officers or past officers are agreeing with me and beating your head against your desk just like me.

What really irks me, more then the article itself, is that we have a fellow emergency provider, someone who is supposed to be on the same team as all of us, trying to defend the abysmal staffing of what occurs in almost 99.9% of career departments (volunteer staffing is a different problem altogether, and I'm a volunteer). It's not safe for anyone, and anyone who sits there and tries to defend it is absolutely clueless about firefighting, the safety issues that we face (and manage to miraculously dodge fire after fire without more LODDs), and the politicians that we currently fight with day in and day out to provide a safe environment for the communities we've sworn to protect. All of the fire engines in the world mean absolutely nothing, if the correct staffing levels are not there to safely, correctly and efficiently do the job.
I am not a paramedic, and will never sit there and attempt to tell you your protocols need to change when it comes to dosage rates of atropine during a heart attack, because I don't have a damn clue about what I'm talking about. I am not a electrician, nor a painter, or a ditch digger, or a cable repair man, so I will never sit there and tell them how to do their job, or the correct and safe way to do it.
So until you strap on a pair of bunkers, make a hallway, pull a victim out, all while having a vertical vent simultaneously cut, with multiple handlines being stretched, don't tell me the safe way to do my job, because I've also done it the poor staffing way, and can tell you the horrible differences between the two.
This is a public forum now, and every reply that is posted can be read by the public, press, politicians, and those who vote. And for someone who is supposed to be on the same team, as stated in your affiliations under your user name, to sit there and say 2 guys on a rig is perfectly good, does absolutely nothing but hurt us, and all the years of work that unions have fought for.

    Nice rig.
I like this one too...also from PA (Blue Ridge Summit VFD)
1500 gpm pump 750 tank on a 130" wheelbase. No cross lays on this rig either, which I have come to believe is a better set up for a number of reasons
    .

And here's the final product....with a proper paint job...

A simple Seagrave ENGINE/PUMPER like this would be perfect for a lot of departments. Just a perfect sized, designed to work, bread and butter Engine, with a great price point with Seagrave quality. Would look nice running down the tight and brutal streets of Yonkers, Peekskill, Poughkeepsie, or many other communities where this would work day in and day out.
