Way of the future, lack of good candidates coming up through ranks, lack of long term members sticking around, people don't just give this worthwhile job a good shake, they all have the hand out but don't do to make better for the dept. Just appears to be the way of the volunteer services today lots of depts are in this shape, but most won't think forward like this one is.
It sad to say I see it in many, including my own, but the people in power afraid to do right thing and the young afraid to step up for the right reasons, they do it for wrong reasons.

I have an idea for this, but with a modern looking engine....cold "drinks" from the pump panel, speakers in the tool compartments, and the "tank" is refrigerated for the "drinks." My brother-in-law wants a FANbulance for football games. I want the FANgine!

This has been squashed, US Rep. Patrick Maloney has been able to secure FEMA funding to keep the guys on the job.

I think we need to better define " Cascade ".
Thats a pretty generic term that does not describe the capacity of the equipment and with a "Cascade," capacity is pretty important.
A standard "Cascade System" - High Pressure Breathing Air Storage Cylinders ONLY
A "Cascade with Booster" - High Pressure Breathing Air Storage with electrical or pneumatic pump to boost low pressure to high presssure.
A "Compressor Refill System" - A High Pressure Pump usually (6000 psi) which fills High Pressure Storage Cylinders
If anyone has a different type, please feel free to add.

It's a disgrace and the city should be ashamed of itself. Newburgh is already understaffed and this is only going to make it worse.
To expect the feds to continue funding their fire department staffing forever is ludicrous. It was an infusion, a shot in the arm, it wasn't forever.
I hope the displaced FF get jobs elsewhere ASAP!

Have New Rochelle consolidate with who ??? Pelham ? Larchmont ? Scarsdale? How would New Rochelle get additional manpower by consolidating ?? New Rochelle needs to get the New Rochelle City Counsel agree to fund a minimum number of firefighters per shift. Back in the 1980's there were 31 firefighters per shift
    5 engines X 4 firefighters = 20
    3 ladders. X 3 firefighters = 9
    D C and his aid = 2
    _______
    31 Total
NRFD needs to go back to this level of manning plus 1 additional firefighter on each ladder and 2 firefighters to man to rescue every shift. NRFD needs to be funded for a minimum of 36 firefighters per shift,

Stiloski's Automotive recently completely rebuilt Goldens Bridge former Rescue 24, a 2001 Spartan/Rescue 1. It was destroyed along with their firehouse in a fire in February of 2014.
Rescue 24 was totaled. Stiloski's purchased Rescue 24 as salvage, and completely rebuilt it in house. The roof and interior needed complete replacement, the body needed complete repainting and structural repair, in additional to numerous mechanical items that were destroyed by the heat and smoke. .
This truck operates now as an Incident Support unit, supporting Stiloski's two heavy duty 85 ton rotating boom wreckers, as well as other recovery equipment. It carries, amongst other things, chains, cribbing, jacks, high lift air bags, generators, scene lighting, cutting torches, fuel spill containment and cleanup supplies, traffic cones, and other specialized tools.
Also to note, Stiloski's loaned the former Tarrytown Engine 80 to GBFD until they can obtain a new rescue.

They had another Pierce engine lined up to do that, not sure what became of it. The rescue is still around (it was in Port's parade yesterday) and one source has said that they are working on ways to correct the weight "issues" and keep it going. 703 may be an addition, not confirmed. Or, it may replace 704 which has been out of service for a while. Have not heard why as of yet.
A little outside our "normal" coverage area here on the site, but Dingmans Township, PA (Pike Co., near Milford) has received a new Smeal Sirius rescue pumper, which was also displayed in Port Jervis's parade yesterday.

It's a great job that I've done now for 26 years with a 25 year retirement, my department has moved away from the police patrols of our 400 acre campus to a community based fire safety job, I am a certified code enforcement officer and we cover 9 counties, with the closure of most of the facilities it's a transition from being a police job to an emergency service dept. Where we can be deployed throughout the state to assist as needed in the event of disaster such as Sandy and the heavy snow fall this past winter in Buffalo. I have no complaints and I enjoy my job as a Sgt. with the agency
