I swear I posted here earlier. Whoever was the staging officer/ directing incoming unit was not doing the greatest job. CNN had a reporter on the highway going into LAX and you could see the traffic at a stand still backed up for miles, where as the side of the highway coming out of the airport was empty since the airport was on lock down. Some how though, both LAPD and LAFD were fighting their way up through the traffic, rather than going the wrong way on the empty side, something to think about for future incident planning. Otherwise it looked like a well rehearsed, well run unified command with everyone (LAWAPD, LAPD, LASO, FBI, LAFD)all working together to get the job done quickly and efficiently. I'm sure that the active shooter drill LAWAPD and LAPD ran at the airport three weeks ago was a great asset and helped prepare the officers for today and shows just how important these drills are for everyone

In orange county, county policy is three pages and then it turned over to your mutual aid, and that includes resounding for a driver or emt. Now, I don't know about westchester, but not enough volunteers is not always the problem in Orange County. I have one neighboring VAC that has a very young membership, and if it's not a hot call, they don't go. You will literally hear them page three times for an elderly fall victim, tot it to the mutual aid, and then ten minutes later page out for a rollover on the highway and they get a fly car and at least one rig out with one page, that is definitely a situation where a penalty would help. As for commercial services, in my opinion, you need to contract with them for a permanent in house rig and if you're going to do that and at that point you might as well go paid, otherwise, they may be around or not be around. Another neighboring VAC had made a deal to use Emstar/ Care 1 (whoever they are this week) as their backup since they only had a couple EMTs and their mutual aid agencies were tired of always going over there. However even though the VAC has a number of new EMTs and personnel in EMT class, they have come to rely on the commercial service to take the calls they don't want. The problem is that Emstar has a significant decrease in the number of units they put out over night, sometimes only two or three for an area covering from fishkill to the NYC line in Westchester, meaning that frequently they don't have a rig available to respond. The area is also generally covered by a fly car, which for obvious reasons can't transport, so they mutual aid rig has to go too, which kinda defeats the purpose of the Emstar agreement. I think part of something that needs to be looked at is how to get volunteers out to these calls that aren't glory filled picture on the front page of the newspaper type calls.

Show starts with a Lieutenant and a "Sheriff" (who wears captain's bars) working on patrol in what is supposed to be a large city, yet they know people like it's a small town, and then say they are part of WCPD and are supervised by a captain? that kinda threw it off for me. As for the actors, it felt like they were kinda neutral/uninteresting, and once they started adding the whole second spirit/ 4 horse men of the apocalypse thing, it just started to seem kinda cheesy, like most of today's modern "horror", the only problem is they left out the skimpily dressed girls. I predict it won't make it past this season, unless there are some drastic changes

It's because it's NY. The same state that decided that since they wanted to teach CPR in EMT class, they had to change the entire EMS system around from the national curriculum. The same state that has decided that if you own an out of state corporation but live in NY, you should pay corporation taxes in NY in addition to the other state's taxes.

I know some rigs, mostly the specialized inter-facility transport rigs have RNs on their crew, but that's because the patients they're transporting are usually using specialized equipment that's above the medic certification. I've never heard of a PA being on an ambulance (I'd assume they'd make more not working on an ambulance), but they might be able to get a waver or something from the DOH to take the paramedic challenge, but they'd definilty have to take the remac exam.
  12. peterose313 liked a post in a topic by EMT111 in Anti-Police Headline by Times Herald Record?
I don't really see how it's anti-police. The written article was very factual, and the only time they used the word tragic was on the record newswatch. They also went on to say that the troopers tried to use non-lethal methods to bring him into custody and only fired once he became an imminent threat to them. If they were trying to make it anti-police, they wouldn't have included any of that.
  13. ems-buff liked a post in a topic by EMT111 in Jersey City 3rd Alarm Response Delayed Due To Medical Call
So because the firefighters and the dispatchers didn't have the ability to see into the future and see this fire was gonna break out and sent the first due company on another call, this needs to be investigated? Secondly, they said the woman went to the fire house to report the fire, that's why you should just call 911 on the phone, cause you know they'll always be there.

Based on the Promos, The officers are with the Sleepy Hollow Sheriffs department with a brown and black color scheme and red and blue lights, so that throws out any idea of the police in the show being similar to Sleepy Hollow PD. As for filming in Sleepy Hollow, I can't say for sure, but the population in the show is apparently 14.5 times larger than the actual population of Sleepy Hollow, which would lead me to believe no because the actual village probably doesn't look like it has 144,000 residents.

I agree, but if Greenville were to put a truck on automatic response for structure related calls, they would be used maybe a couple of times a year.
Just for clarification for everyone, were are talking about Greenville in Orange County, about 10 minutes outside of Port Jervis. A very rural district that would see a significant decrease in calls if they didn't cover a part of Route 84

It's patient/family choice depending on what's the appropriate facility. And I was honestly surprised last weekend when the crew asked my patients wife what facility she wanted to go to, between Hackensack and WMC, and when she asked their opinion, they told her they were both about equal. I was expecting to hear them say Hackensack, but apparently, they don't feel the need/ haven't been told to push going to Hackensack

Basically Oregon voters don't want to pay more taxes for anything, including public saftey. Therefore, public saftey levels, i.e. manpower levels, response times, etc. have fallen to levels where the aren't effective, such as the example in the article. Thereforte, laws makers want to declare a "public saftey emergency", which would allow them to create new taxes in order to create funding for the public saftey services

First, I must say nice job to Mr. Woebse, it's nice to see an agency and the upper level management stick up for it's employees. Mobile life seems to be a class act and a great example of what an agency should be. As for Mr. Adamis, I must say I like his defense, "we meant it literally, so it's okay."

Not to comment on what the fire fighters did, but it seems to me that the fire department supervisors and the City of Clevland droped the ball here. First not fire department supervisor realised that these guys were gone this much and never filling in? Secondly, The one guy was getting a paycheck from the fire department and the school district at the same time, there was never a point that anybody ever noticed this or that he popped up twice in a computer system somewhere?
