Are you not aware that NWVAC is one of the top agencies in Orange County? Yeah, they got shut down by a former Town Supervisor, but I bet that you did not know that there were secret meetings between MLSS Management & the Town Supervisor. The day before NWVAC was shut down, there was a meeting between the NWVAC Chief & Supervisor about NWVAC getting their own medics. Well, MLSS was contacted by the Town Supervisor and asked how much they would charge the town to provide ambulance service. That number was a lot lower than NWVACs number, so the next day, the MLSS Administration had an off site meeting with the Town Supervisor. Next thing you know, NWVAC gets shut down and MLSS takes over EMS for the town.
In the end.........NWVAC came back, better than ever.....and the Town Supervisor was voted out of office.

Been a while but I just checked in and the site looks good. As always, lots of good info. I will try to be a little more active. Studying for the upcoming test has taken a lot of my attention away from normal routines.

It's not so much a matter of mileage but of the hours the vehicle runs. The rig may only have 30,000 miles when it retires but could have 60,000 hours on it. To put this in perspective, if you ran the vehicle 24/7/365 for 10 years the rig would have 87,360 hours on it, but in 10 years my truck has 116,000 miles. This is well below its life expectancy. The diesel takes the abuse better than gas. They run cooler and at lower RPMs. Much less wear.

OSWEGO, NY – The Central New York Interoperable Communication Consortium has released a new video summarizing the latest E-911 radio system now being constructed by nine counties for improved emergency communication.
The video production, sponsored by Motorola and produced by SUNY Oswego students, is available for viewing on YouTube and the Oswego County E-911 Web site.
“Member counties have invested millions in the radio system which covered new radio communication towers as well as new handheld radios and mobiles for emergency responders such as police, firefighters and EMS,” said Mike Allen, Oswego County 911 program coordinator. “The CNYICC video is very well produced as it presents a great amount of detailed information about the creation of a regional communication system.”
The new integrated communication system currently links Oswego, Madison, Cayuga, Cortland and Onondaga counties.
CNYICC is an agreement between these counties to share in costs and develop an interoperable communication system for the safety of Central New York.
The video is a Great Laker Communication Production by SUNY Oswego and is narrated by local TV and radio personality Rick Gary.
The lead writer and assistant writers include SUNY Oswego students Dan Frohm, Joe Salvatore and Shaune Killough with support from Marybeth Longo, visiting professor and student coordinator.

Although there are no pictures of the completed unit/s. This was on the news the other night. Not sure if many have seen it. Houston will have mobile stroke units staffed by a doctor, nurses, and a paramedic. I think it's a pretty cool concept. Can't wait to see them.
This video is on YouTube via the Frazer Ltd channel.
Not sure if the imbed worked....sorry if it didn't.

Yes, although Orange County's system will mix 700 and 800 MHz frequencies on the same system for additional capacity (reusing the 800 MHz frequencies currently in use on the EDACS system). 700 and 800 MHz are considered the same band on these systems, easily intermixed.
  12. 87D124 liked a post in a topic by res6cue in WCDES Radio System Replacement
The county is looking to build out a 700 MHz P25 Phase II system (same type of system as Rockland).
It will replace the current Motorola trunked system, and will have transmitters at the same 9 sites that the current trunked system occupies. Unlike the current trunked systems, there will not be "North" and "South" zones, instead it will be a simulcast system that will cover the entire county.
The system will be comprised of 12 frequencies, however because this system is Phase II and uses TDMA technology, each voice frequency gets divided into 2 time slots which allows for double the amount of voice channel capacity. The control channel occupies a full single frequency on its own, which leaves 11 frequencies available for voice transmission. TDMA technology means there will be 22 voice channels available. Contrast that with the current system, which has 12 frequencies. Because there is a North and South zone, there are 2 frequencies dedicated for each zone's control channel. That leaves just 10 frequencies for voice traffic, 5 on each zone. The new system will double that capacity + 2 additional voice channels.
For comparison, Rockland's system is a 10 site, 10 frequency simulcast (18 voice channels).

In today's Westchester County 2014 Budget release, one of the capital items was replacement of the radio system.

    $6,000,000 was budgeted

    Source: http://www3.westchestergov.com/images/stories/budget/2014/2014ProposedCapital_SectionC1.pdf
However, a much needed renovation and expansion of 60 Control still appears on hold in the budget. I was hoping to see a brand new standalone facility for 60 Control in this year's capital budget, but still nothing. Everything gets renovated and upgraded around them at DES, they are doing more work then ever in the same cramped and obsolete facility. I don't understand why this item keeps getting overlooked, year after year. AND, they are working with less staff then they had 10 years ago, when they had 50% less workload. Not only would it improve operations, a new from-scratch modern facility would improve morale, and possibly help with staff retention. So much for the people who operate above said radio system.

Apologies in a advance if this starts a battle......Not that being armed would have made a difference because we certainly wouldn't enter a scene with weapons drawn, but, I think we are in a time where EMS, and even fire personnel should be allowed to conceal carry if they wish to do so. Of course all appropriate legal measures would have to be taken and a safety class should be taken before an employer would allow such a circumstance. But I know, EMS is EMS, PD is PD etc etc. But, people are crazy, and PD don't always respond to EMS calls.

No. Engines are the primary EMS response to EMS runs. This vehicle is assigned to the EMS Officer. It replaces an 11 year old Ford Expedition. The EMS Officer responds to major and unusual incidents or if special called by a Batallion Chief.

Not even on the radar. Our mission is provide first response EMS and support the transporting agency (Empress) any way we can.

We have an MCI trailer, a rehab trailer, a shelter trailer, and others. This vehicle, along with other Field support units, is available to tow these.

WHO CARES? Seriously............FDs in different counties have different rules when it comes to department or district vehicles and how far out of their response area they are permitted to go.
As long as the Chief, Commissioner or whoever has permission to take a vehicle out of the area, then it is not an issue.

And make sure you get that easy one hour of overtime, because if you're working tonight, you're working an extra hour!
