  1. I borrowed this from a friend of mine on Facebook who borrowed it from a freind of his both proudly wears the blue to serve and protect. Thank you to all the PO's, your service is appreciated! I just had to post it. I think it's beautiful.

"It's sad days like today that make being a police officer rough. Like me & thousands of others, PO Pete Figoski kissed his girls and left his house last night for work. He drove in, put his uniform on like he did for 22 years, stood roll call, joked w his coworkers as he walked to the car with his partner & went on patrol. Maybe they talked about their day. Maybe their families. Maybe what they ...would do tomorrow. Then the radio run comes in. It's a run we have been to 100's if not 1000 times. But this one was different. He didn't know exiting the rmp that it would be the last. We never know when we get out of that car what to expect. Pete could have left 2 years ago. I didn't know him, but I guess he loved the job. Friends that did say he was in the 75 his whole career. That's dedication. Dedication like that that is taken for granted by the people we serve. People at OWS who push our limits. Yell shame in our face. Manipulate videos to portray us as a "Nazi" type department. But what we are is exactly what Pete was. A father, a husband, a son, a neighbor & a friend. A man who loved his job as much as his family. We as cops were his 2nd family. You will be missed. I will think of you for the next 7 months until I retire every time I kiss my girls and I leave for work. Thank you Pete. You may not have heard it everyday when you went to work, but as a fellow brother in blue, thank you!

  2. Yesterday driving home on the Taconic I saw two different NYSP troopers on the side of the road with their warning lights activated. One was a traffic stop the other a stranded motorist. Both times i witnessed vehicles fail to move over and blow by the stoped vehicals at great speed. My question to the law enforcement brothers on here is now that there is a move over law on the books here in NYS how do you enforce it? If you are on a traffic stop already how do you enforce the move over law. I mean there is only one of you with one vehicle. How do you enforce the move over law and still preform your traffic stop? You can't do two things at once...can you? If you can't enforce it what can be done so it can be enforced?

My prayers and sadness go out to the young PO, his family and to the PMPD. Stay strong!

  3. I lost my dad to cancer a little over a year ago. He would say that you cant escape the "big C". It is a horrible disease and my prayer is that the cure come soon!

May she rest with the angels and the saints! So sorry for your lost but remember her phyical presence might be gone but her spirit and memories lives in your heart forever!

  4. Westchester does not have a test, the test is developped and administered by NYS Civil Service. And on test day they run hundreds of simultanious tests statewide.

Same difference then, the state should start to go toward the NYC model. It makes life so much easier for everyone and is a better and more efficiant way to test! All the questions on the computer with touch screens to choose your answer. Plenty of room and a comfy chair to sit in plus no pencils and a possible errors in grading that scantrons are known for. It made for a better testing situation for me and I'm sure for anyone taking a test. It's the way to go for the big large turn out civil service tests.

  5. Congrats to all those who did well! First off I think Westchester should start to shift to a model like NYC does with major civil service test's like the firefighter test. In NYC it is all computerized, runs for a few months, and you get an immediate unofficial score when you finish the exam. I think it would be easier for them to get the official results out quicker if they didn't have a massive amount of exams to grade all at once. Second I believe that the CPAT is part of the hiring process now in Westchester. It is difficult so look it up and start trainnig for it now. Also, remember that all though the county gives the exam it is local dept's that do the hiring and thus might only hire 5-10 guys if that many off a list in the three to four years the list is good and a good portion of them hire from the residency list. The cities that hire a larger amount have there own exams

  6. I have seen several depts begging for info/help finding their "old" apparatus that was sold off many years ago at musters and on the SPAAMFAA website. If your dept has any interest in getting this one back, now is the time. Funds may not be availible to resto it now, but atleast of you get possession of it, you can resto it when you decide to, even if it is years from now. Hoping to find it and buy it when the funds are availible may lead you on a fruitless search, and a whole bunch of "we should of bought it back then"

I totaly agree! I have been searching for a while for an old Eastchester American LaFrance 700 series pumper that was sold in 85/86. I doubt I will ever find it. The hardest part is finding the apparatus!

  7. Both the Super Pumper and Super Tender were originally housed at Engine 211 at 26 Hooper St. in Brooklyn from their creation in 1965 until 1972, when it moved to Engine 207 at 172 Tillary St. in Brooklyn. It remained there until being disbanded in 1975. They were originally their own company and staffed like any other, but eventually became a cross-staffed company due to budget buts.

    Thanks for the info!

  8. Yeah, my idea even though a possible good one will never take effect. However, there is an urgent need to update morotists on the new v & T laws that come out. HOw are you supposed to follow the law if you don't know it. I'm glad to hear the they have decided not to do away with the vision test. I have seen though NYS troopers inforcing the move over law on the Taconic a few times.

  9. I think that when you renew your liscence you should have to take a informational course to be informed on the new v & t laws that have gone into effect since you renewed it the last time. It could be on the web with a quiz at the end. Once you pass the quiz you get a number, code etc that would allow you to continue the renweal process. Wouldn't take all that long and would update motorists.
